This short lesson was given to an undergraduate music major. In the lesson, I show the student bebop basics including, scale connectors and rotations in F major.
I have been playing Be Bop tunes for a few years now, and am just now after hearing this lesson the dynamic of a pre conceived riff and how i can manipulate the sounds to have a more varied semi structural approach to playing, and having fun with it, this is the whole idea , isn't it ? After learning the basics of the Clifford Brown tune "Gertrudes Bounce, and Fats Navarro's Eflat Pob" , I was hooked on learning the Be-Bop feel, Great !!!! Thank you, Oh and a cheerful little earful from the student.
I wish i could see the valves when he plays, I don't understand when he talks in numbers referring to f# or Bb and things like that. I am teaching myself to play Trumpet and read with the help of UA-cam.
Brilliant. This is probably how older players taught each other. Very little theory, just giving little "peices" of music to experiment with. You have to have ears and some rhythm to put it to use, and creativity to morph it into real music on the bandstand.
This isn't a good lesson at all. the student can easily learn this all on her own. Learning these patterns without the listening to the chord serves the student no use. A better way to teach this is learning how to apply this in context with the chord changes. That and also listening to other jazz musicians and imitating their playing.
Right, but this is a watered down, simplified version. Information needs to be broken down in to little digestible packets. How the hell do you eat an elephant Ryan? get off of your critical horse. If you can't say anything nice DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL
You should do more lessons like this it's really good for players who learn by ear
Great lesson! Any upcoming videos?

What is that black thing after the mouthpiece
A M/P Buzzing attachment. You put your mouthpiece in it and you can buzz the notes as you press the valves.....It's called a BERP.
