Seeing abandoned hospitals gives me a sort of... upset vibe. This hospital, full of hope, had to shut down due to a hurricane. It’s like traveling back in time, seeing the writing on the charts and boards. Just imagine, the patients, deathly sick or suffering, struggling to evacuate this hospital. Let’s take a moment to respect all the patients who went to this hospital. ♥️

Some of this hospitals’ staff were transferred to our facility (I’m not sure if you named the hospital, so I won’t). Many told us how they were rescued . Harvey was actually supposed to hit our area (corpus christi) but took a last minute turn & hit a few smaller cities above us (rockport is where most people passed due to the hurricane) & the rains & floods actually hit laredo & houston & san antonio the worst(where people passed due to the waters) before it even hit the news broadcasters & guards were literally announcing on every news station that the people should “write their social security numbers on their arms to help identify the bodies if anything where to happen to them” it was awful. We were without power for days & some areas for weeks/months. They gave out emergency foodstamps & free hospital visits to anybody that needed them during this time. There was a lot of organizations that were put together & went to donate clean water & emergency medical kits & food to the people that were most affected by it. It was/is by far one of the worst storms to ever hit texas since the hurricane back in the 90’s i believe.

Rebecca Fokes immediately after the hurricane and when trucks were able to drive through the neighborhood, the Red Cross provided meals for maybe 5 days. But since we had never flooded before (even when the flood hit earlier that year and was deemed a “500 year flood”), we didn’t have flood insurance. The only direct help we received was from FEMA, who came out to assess the damage and gave us some money (which was about 1/5 of what we needed to repair everything but many people had it worse so they got more money). Thankfully we didn’t flood as bad as others near us, but it doesn’t take much water to totally ruin floors and walls.

Its so sad, I am a nurse and know how expensive hospitals are. My relative is building a new heart hospital where I live in Melbourne, Australia and its hundreds of millions of dollars!
For years I have been saying how lucky I am to live in Australia, we don't have earthquakes, hurricanes or tsunamis. We do get bad bushfires and flooding however. We have low crime compared to other countries and strict gun control.
It's scary how crazy hospitals look like with no people in there. Because remember, hospitals ALWAYS have people in them 24/7!
Look forward to more of your adventures!
I do think you and your team would love exploring in Australia, as long as you dont mind ruffing it!
    Take care

Jason Bouphasavanh I used to work at monash and trust me, night shift can be really creepy. So I know exactly how you feel. The hospitals further out of the city, the more erie they are at night, especially around the operating theaters!

Jason Bouphasavanh yeah I have a history teacher partner so always watched documentaries on the black plague & ww2 stories.
Yeah depending on how critical the patients on the wards/section is will take into account how many nurses are working. We have 4 nurses at night as i specialize in cardiothoracic care. But most wards have 3-4 at night. Its a great job but we are at high risk of violence from the patients we care for. Really a rewarding career however

My Mum's a surgeon and there was a bomb threat at the hospital. Everyone else evacuated, but not the patients and nurses and doctors in the operating rooms. They weren't allowed to evacuate cause there was an open body in a sterile area and they couldn't bring it out because of the high risk of infection. So what they have to do is close the patient as soon as possible, and then they can leave.
So my guess is that they had to close up the person as soon as possible before they were allowed to leave.

I thought it would look worse than that actually but then I wasn’t there to actually see it. I think the building could be saved if they just got rid of all the wall and flooring materials on the lower levels and cleaned/disinfected any items that might be still useable. I imagine the structure is steel and still viable. All the ventilation systems may also need replacing if any mold spores got in there. So sad to see.

DoitinBarbados I completely agree with you. Where I used to work, the entire basement was flooded after it rained hard for almost 3 days straight. They tore out the walls, installation, and basically fixed everything that needed to be fixed. It's a really old building too. If that hospital can't be reused because of some red tape, it could always be repurposed. (Edit: If it can't be used as a hospital again because of red tape.)

Afterwords my churches youth group went out to Houston and other places to clean their house. Their was a couple who both of their houses flooded and they had no where to go.
