    Excellent coverage of the fire. I liked the focus stack photo. Fires like this are beneficial to the grasslands and next spring, if you go back to the same place, you won't even be able to tell there was a fire.

    I didn't know prickly pear cactus lived that far North.

      Oh yeah! I believe they extend further north into Montana and possibly southern Canada. The northern great plains are semi-arid, almost like a desert that actually sees seasons haha

    I'd assume there is some beneficial effects from the fire in the Badlands? Most grasslands need some fire to stay healthy.

      Oh yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the area bounces back! I know they do prescribed burns occasionally, but typically in the fall/spring when things are easier to control.
