Hey. I really liked your points about both the literal use of Kintsugi and the metaphorical throughline of that idea. That's not something I've seen talked about all that much so it was super interesting to hear that take on it. Also the editing on this video is really good aswell, a mix of relevant clips aswell as just talking reminds me of earlier days of youtube which is really nice. The only critique I have isn't of your analysis but the pop sound effects could be toned down a wee bit. They're a little sharp for me personally but other than that this was a great video and really didn't feel like it dragged at all. Keep up the great work!

The pacing was fine for me. Arcane season 2 builds on sn1 without handholding you, no filler, no fluff, no over-simplification, no over repetitively *FORCED* toddler-ish "comedy" and no spoon feeding while encouraging deductive participation from the audience/ viewers to follow the plot complimented by an ABSOLUTE BANGER of hyper-cinematic induction all culminating to higher immersive experience. There are many online still scratching their head about how or why Silco and Vander became buddies again in the alternate timeline yet they COMPLETELY forgot about the LETTER from Vance addressed to Silco IN SEASON 1 which Silco never read in the main timeline so it becomes BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that he read the letter and "found the will to forgive" in the alternate timeline. Brilliant compact and impactful writing. But instead many are demanding to be spoon-fed.
The only main issue for me (personal bias) is the finale should have been longer and bigger battle filled will much more multiple character moments AND we should have SEEN how Ekko united Zaun after saving Jinx including seeing Jinx make a new arm for Sevika. Also we never got to know WHO the other leading families of Piltover are but i am okay and content with what we got on screen.
Especially considering how INSANELY EXPENSIVE the budget was (Arcane sn1+2 budget= $250m, most expensive animation ever) so it's understandable how and why they made the writing tight and compact while giving the audience some participatory deduction and generate interest to research into the lore.
What they delivered is still very peak in my opinion. We all wanted more eps but there is cost-benefit situation with that. Perhaps in future projects they could make each ep 10mins longer from 40mins-50mins then the final can be like 1hr. This can be a perfect middle ground to give more time to more avenues of the plot without adding more full eps. It might cost a little more but still significantly LESS than making additional FULL eps. Either way, both Arcane sn1+2 have been incredibly amazing.
Both get at LEAST ABOVE 9/10 rating from me irrespective of whatever flaws each season has.

It's so interesting to hear everyone's opinions on this season! There is definitely a delicate balance between "show, don't tell" and only showing and not really explaining some bits. I do find it fun and more engaging when gaps are left for the audience to fill in, which allows everyone to have their own interpretations. Even though I could have used a wee bit more explanation/development with some parts, you brought up a good point with how it might be a tactic for people to get invested in League lore/the insane expenses of the show. I still really enjoyed this season a lot and the production was outstanding; glad to hear you enjoyed it so much :)

@freshfaithed Well said. I am not even a gamer but got COMPELLED to watch youtube vids about LoL/ Runeterra lore (Shadow Isles, Demarcia, Ionia, Norxus, Blitgewater (spelling??), Shurima, the various protagonists, villains, etc and so on). I even read the online comics that are on the Riot games / lol website.
I eagerly await to see what they do next.

I am honestly surprised at the fact that the majority of reviews specifically for season two are that its bad, yet in the countless more reaction content, literally not a single negative review. I have come to the conclusion that a significant number of people dont actally like stuff thats good, and will claim that things are poorly executed when in reality they just didn't like them. I mean, i saw a number of channels complain about the "music video montages" and either in the previous breath or the next, complain about there being barely any story. I bring this up because these are rhe same kinds of channels and in some case literally the same channels that when discussing some other media, will yap on about "show dont tell". As you adequately put it, arcane is indeed a model case of the "show dont tell". So all these people who will complain when other pieces of media tell instead of show and then turn around and complain about the "music video montages" they are literally complaining when its adequately showing instead of telling. Like, make up your mind people.
Was it perfect? No. But the idea that it was "rock bottom" as some channels have suggested is just flat out delusional from any legitimate and reasonable writing perspective. Absolute nonsense.

Majority of the reviews for season 2 are not bad. In fact, it's the opposite. Go on any major review site and Arcane S2 is getting incredibly high scores across the board. Your average watcher absolutely loved the show. Most of the criticism seems to be coming from hardcore critics or hardcore fans who've been obsessed with the show since the first season came out and ended up coming up with a specific version of the story they wanted and are upset they didn't get that.
Now I'm not here to say Season 2 is perfect. The flaws people point out are definitely valid. I'm just pointing that the general audience(aka the majority of watchers) that you don't really see circulating social media forums absolutely loved Season 2 and the numbers reflect that.

Glad you and so many people liked it. For me I was a bit disappointed. It is still a decent show, but more like something that'd I'd watch once and not like the masterpiece that is season 1.
Regarding the show don't tell part, that was somewhat undermined for me in some regards:
A lot of character developing events were not really shown. We instead got a summary of what happened in music videos. This gave a bit of a disconnect and made it impossible to judge things properly based on show, rather than tell, except for speculations you fill the holes in with. Like we never really saw how Vi really acted and reacted to things happening during her being an enforcer and routing out the underworld.
Characters sometimes were quite different after some timeskip of undefined amount in the show. We had to try to clue together why that change happened through context later, but weren't always given the info to do so imo. Like for example jinx at the end of season 1 is a completely different person than her from the start of season 2. A lot of her mental problems, like her delusions turned into mostly regular (but very severe) depression from what it seems like. I am not sure how this happened. From my experience such severe mental problems like she had, don't just disappear like that so suddenly.
Another thing is that I felt like a lot of chacters were just used as plot devices and didn't feel like real people to me. Isha being one such example. I realized super early that she is just a device to alter Jinx character and not ment to be a full person. Her being mute (and not communicating in another way for the most part) and us only ever being able to speculate on her thoughts supported that. She didn't need to be built up a lot, people filled the holes themselves. I think this is also why she is either loved or hated. Some people filled her character a lot and made a lot of speculations based on her actions, while other people were more conservative with that.
The Kintsugi part you mentioned was really interesting. I did put that together for the table and what that means, but I didn't realise they extended that to the character designs, which is a nice detail.

You bring up a lot of insightful points! I do agree that Season 1 is definitely more refined and truly masterful as opposed to Season 2. I realize now that my video probably came across as trying to be a comprehensive review of the whole season, even though my intention was more just to talk about my favorite parts that they did.
To expand upon some of your points, there for sure could have been better fleshing out of why certain characters changed so much. Even after Caitlyn's mom died, we just got that music video of her funeral and then suddenly we had a Caitlyn that was totally cold-hearted and focused only on her mission. Although she's always been more of a logical thinker, it was a little jarring compared to her personality in Season 1.
The point with Isha is also interesting; she does seem to be a very polarizing character. She doesn't really have any backstory or goals of her own, her main function is to be someone who affects and changes Jinx (as well as other characters' perceptions of Jinx). Some may see that as lazy or a bad thing, but I guess I don't really mind? For me, I think not every character needs to necessarily stand on their own as a fully fleshed out being, but that's only my opinion! Thanks for giving me several points to chew on 😊

First I was also confused why they introduced Isha and for what purpose in Jinx' story and I felt no connection with her. But I'm convinced everything is intentional storywise in Arcane and after S02E06 it clicked for me.
To me Isha resembles a 'successful' Powder or the version that Jinx wanted to be as a kid. Ironically after Jinx has embraced her identity as Jinx Powder (literally) falls into her lap and she recognizes herself in Isha, as Silco did in Jinx. Isha receives love, acknowledgement, belonging in the group and the chance to be useful for the ones she cares about...all the exact things Powder needed in her youth. So I think Jinx was reliving that in a cathartic way and to come to terms with her Powder side. There was nothing wrong with Powder EVER except the conditions (or the system) around her failing to nurture and empower her.
Jinx embracing her name and identity at the end of season 1 is great and all, but we clearly see Jinx is not in a good place mentally plagued with violence and self-pity/hate. I believe Silco's "You're perfect", being acknowledged by Zaun as a symbol, Isha showing her she is worth being protected and loved, Viktor hinting she has lots of potential for good,...are all seeds that may have helped or nudged her in the right direction. Silco's ghost was crucial for what she needed to do in the end, but Ekko's intervention showed or reminded her again for who Jinx had to become. Her true purpose or calling to build something new. Both Silco and Ekko were able to see her whole self (note they don't address her with Jinx or Powder but with YOU!) and accept/love her for who she is. But the latter Jinx needed to realize and do herself to progress and become whole or alive again (lyrics in season 2 ep2 montage mention "I'm dead inside" when we see her for the 1st time again).
It's very fitting for Jinx to deal with Vander/Warwick as the ghost of the past because she is used to dealing with those. Well except Warwick is also a physical manifestation now. I adore the symbolism of Jinx protecting Vi and making the choice her sister couldn't. Maybe she was prepared to move on, or she already did make up her mind. Jinx let go of Vi but actually forced Vi to let go of her while also putting the monster or ghost of the past to rest (literally and figuratively). This will bring Vi closure and hopefully ready to accept the past, move on and build something new (with Cait). So yeah I think acceptance (like forgiveness and (im)perfection) is a big theme in season 2. There is actually an interesting parallel of Jinx killing her 2nd father and role model at the end of season 1 and her 1st father (Vi's role model) for the 2nd time at the end of season 2. That last kill was intentional unlike the other ones so take that for you will. Maybe I'm looking too much into it?
Essentially Jinx symbolizes the self-annihilating part and Vi the self-replicating part of the Hexcore for me. Jinx deciding to be creative going forward instead of being destructive (internally and externally) vs. Vi pulling it together and keeping her good heart intact trying to heal/restore her family or sister bond. Love is also knowing when to say goodbye and realizing it's better to go your separate ways. Both characters are forever intertwined, but better off without each other (like in the alternate universe). Just like the Hexcore dissolved, their cycle of pulling and repelling is broken. I'm an absolute sucker for melancholic or bittersweet endings and recurring symbolism and duality.
Last but not least I applaud the writers for choosing the characters to go in opposite arcs compared to season 1, or 'going against type', e.g. Vi being the one who's lost and Jinx being the protector for Vi in season 2. A bold move for sure reversing expectations like that, but I can see it could feel out of place or too unexpected/jarring for some people, especially if you're not paying attention or understanding them enough (or rather not as obsessed as I am). I don't blame anyone because in season 2 too many details and subtext were often obscure, hidden or simply left out due to budget/time constraints. So my hot take is the reason most people favor season 1 is not the writing, animation or pacing, but we needed a bit more dialogue (or internal monologues), runtime and clear subtext. These are crucial for character moments and choices to feel earned and understood and (sadly) kind of necessary to connect the dots sometimes.

Of course 1x9 Jinx wasn't the same as s2 act1 Jinx. She lost everyone, she was completely alone, no purpose and she even says that bc of it things have been quiet. Even in S1, she wasn't just this crazy manic girl 24/7, she had moments of stability until something triggered her. Her disorder didn't "just disappear". It's still there. But people with all kinds of mental illnesses/disorders have the ability to lead regular lives under the right circumstances (medication, environment, therapy, etc). After meeting Isha, that's pretty much what happened. Isolating themselves in her lair, they were able to create a good environment. That until new problems disturbed it. I wonder how exactly did you expect her to act after Silco's death?
I also find it odd your implication that bc Isha was mute, you couldn't see her as her own character. Because she did communicate through sign language and we actually know enough about her considering she's a child. She wasn't going to have complex thoughts even if she was able to speak. What's important for the narrative is that she adores Jinx, proving to her that she's lovable and able to keep good relationships. Through her own actions, Isha also helped Zaunites keep believing that Jinx was fighting alongside them, fueling their will to keep rebelling despite the obstacles. That's a character having her own agency and goals, even if she was indeed used as a piece for Jinx's development. Vander, Mylo and Claggor's deaths were also used as the catalyst for Vi and Powder to get separated and for their story to progress. For Powder to become Jinx. Should we also consider it a negative aspect of S1?

I'm wondering if it was just a budget thing or something else? I do agree though, there were definitely several points in S2 that felt rushed or there was too much of a time gap in between scenes for the character development to feel truly smooth.
