In a perfect world this man would be a household name ........
it’s been ten years since i last saw him live in europe and my heart aches for a live show…please come back, Mr. Stoneking, europe loves you!
Pure genius. This song could be and even might be over 100 years old. Can not possibly ask for more this thing I have done.
What an absolute golden piece of songwriting. Hits you like a suckerpunch in a bar fight. Love it.
Totally!
Music doesn't get more perfectly raw than this. I bow to them.
Wrong continent, wrong century, wrong race, absolutely PERFECT!
Music have no race. But perfection!
Saw him live.
Just him.
A charming individual I had the pleasure to meet. Go see him.
This is such a great song, perfectly performed, ol CW is one of those idiosyncratic musical auteurs that show up each decade, we only get a handful a decade, CW is one of em, one of those musicians who’s sounds is instantly recognisable, a true character guitarist, one of those rare beasts that seems to effortlessly carve out their very own tone n style of play. It’s what every musician should be aiming for, too many musicians get stuck on technique above all else which too easily extinguishes any kindve of possible originality n idiosyncrasy. Your never gonna become a great guitarist with a recognisable sound that way, musical idiosyncrasies are as much a result of a musicians weaknesses as they are their strengths
Too good to be true...
Ha ha ha, exactly!
Wow I don't watch many live performances of his but DAMN he's a phenomenal singer
Thanks, I love your music ❤
Wonderful song! I listen it at least once a week
THE THING I DONE
I roll like thunder
Go like dynamite
All flesh and bone I come
Old death 'long by my side
In from the storm,
This scornful breath about my tongue
Oh the thing I done
I took my chances
Took what chance I got
Lord knows my hands is tied
This all-bindin' ancient blood
There flood my mind images
Blindin' as the sun
Oh the thing I done
Can't tell my future
I can't tell my past
It's only eludin' fate
That make my journey's task
That weigh down upon me
Out on the run
Oh the thing I done
The band are playin'
Bathed in electrical light
But I'm all at sea away
Under the shade o' that dark fright
No an' I never had a chance, I come
Bound to all I done
You hear me singin'
No my time ain't long
Desirous this song I bring
On these un-restin' bones
Long ways from home I stumbled
Long since time begun
Oh the thing I done
Oh the thing I done
Oh the thing I done
Thanks for the lyrics

This guy's music makes me want to do angel dust with a witch doctor in a New Orleans brothel. Americana weirdness at it's finest.
leftyfusion88 this dude is straight up Australian weirdness lol
Australian, American, Caribbean--it's universal, it's timeless.

Marla Singer on bass sax...
Judith Lucy on sax.
😂😂😂
Gogol Bordello ate their heart out...
So, if you built a human who’s 50% Australian 50% East Tenneessean, from the Appalachians, turned him into an old school ragtime blues musician then drug him down Bourbon Street for a little flavor, I’m pretty sure this is what you’d get.
how to stop listening
What'd he do?
The THING, man.
IDK what thing he done...BUT, I sincerely think it was...no fucking joke.
We did our "quarantined" cover of this tune:

What the actual shit! This guy's white???????
Every commenter here loves him, but let's not ignore that this is a stilted take and there's no ignoring a lack of cohesion
