He’s almost an icon in Christian music. The successful, gold-record, award-winning singer-songwriter who seems to have his life, family and walk in place. It probably all came easy for him, right? A product of natural talent?
The road to musical influence for Michael W. Smith has had multiple stops, including some places you would not expect. Such was the case at age 17 when he moved to Nashville to pursue a musical career. Leaving home with a foundation of God’s blessing, Michael’s first jobs took him to after-hours bars where he flirted with temptation-and more. The flirtation involved drug use, which ultimately led to a near-death experience. He was in the “pit of life, and looking at no escape.”
Then he asked for God to do anything to get his attention. With that came Michael’s rescue, leading to the impact his songs have brought to millions and an identity that is secure in Christ.
"I know who I am. I am the son of the highest king of the universe..."
The more screwed up the individual who comes to faith in Christ, the greater the glory it brings to God; and all it He deserves.
Ya know famous people aren't the only one with stories who have seen miracles and have come to Christ.
amen Jesus is sooooooooooooooooo goooooooood!!!!!
Selling millions of records doesn't give you peace😢what a story!!
God is Faithful...
God is faithful, thank you for reminding me :)
Good guy. Great testimony. I never realized he came from such a rough beginning. I never knew about the drug use. I grew up with this man's music (I am 50) and I always thought he was a stereotypical mid-western bible belt born and raised believer who never got into any trouble. Nice to see he's human! More importantly, nice to know he's second!
This really touched my heart Michael. Thank you.
I am a youth leader at a tiny church in the heart of Appalachia East Kentucky. My heart breaks for youth of this area. The hope that they have to succeed in this area is next to zero. I pray that God's hand move through me, to love this children like He does!
So grateful for the call that God placed on your life. What a blessing your music has been, and will be. I wonder if we will be singing it up in Heaven.
"I know where my Hope lies...."
Amazing story. Met him 25 years ago in Spokane when he opened for Amy.
Now that I am 50 (like you swstryker) I am still learning from MWS.
those who love much, understand how much they are loved....
Thank you lord for using Michael. Hopefully I will meet him in this life or the next.
