  • An encampment of people experiencing homelessness is located just east of the I-5 on south Oceanside Blvd. They call it "Fall-town," a place where people fall.
    The people there have been living in the area for the past few months, but the city has said they need to be out by Saturday.
    More than 50 people call the Oceanside homeless encampment home. Including Rodney McGough who feels as though the city is throwing them out like trash.

    I work with many nurses who volunteer their time to help the homeless in Oceanside. They are offered A LOT of help. From showers and hygiene products to job interviews and apartments under one condition which is staying sober! No alcohol, no heroin no meth.. NOTHING! But the sad reality is that many of them would rather get high and live on the streets instead of getting help and getting back on their feet.

    I have no issues with houseless people but the amount of trash they leave on the street is insane. I live right there on Greenbrier and every other day you see piles of trash blowing down the street, I really hope they can receive help and I hope the shelter is available to them soon.

Lack of access to showers and good bathrooms 2. Lack of nutrition 3. Dirty encampments 4. Lack of health care 5. High stress 6. Some have drug use issues resulting in more unsanitary conditions. I agree many do do drugs. But, many have mental illnesses and really need help. If you talk to them and listen to some of their upbringings, many were abused. Or ask them what or how they got onto living on the streets, it is freaking sad. They need mental help. Many turn to drugs because they are trying to kill themselves. Many of these people go to the hospital a lot because they have strokes, heart attacks, lung problems, diabetes, etc. Most of the food provided is mostly sugar. You get a pb&j or tuna with chips and cookies, juice and water. On top of that at breakfast they give out cakes and more cookies and desserts. Because it is Cheap and easy to eat because people do not have stoves, ovens, microwaves. They get canned foods as well though, veggies right?

    • @vanessaharper6080
      @vanessaharper6080 3 роки тому +1

      Ebt only gives a certain amount of money per month and if you do not have a place you have to buy the food there and then so it doesn't get bad or people try to steal it from you. Some people don't have the mental ability to fill out forms and get paperwork finished in order to get ebt or other benefits. Some do not know about the benefits. Section 8 is 12+ yr waitlist and then when you get it, they barely help with finding you a place. You have to do it. They have forms and lists of places, call them. The places are filled,the places have a wait list too. Then they don't take you because your credit score is bad because many people made mistakes and lost themselves and became homeless. Did you know even with Section 8, they still enforce the 2.5x the rent requirement for income? Some do not even make 1.5 times. Some have been raped and beaten and their minds are all traumatized up and you want this person to work? They are trying their hardest to live day by day and they do not even want to do that.
