  • Americans love trucks, and Americans love crossovers, so why not mash them together and sprinkle a 42 MPG hybrid system on top? That was clearly Ford's logic when designing the Maverick. Unlike other combinations that sound good initially but ultimately turn out to be sour, this combo is epic. The cabin is more than roomy enough for a family of four plus the occasional middle seat passenger, while the bed will haul more than most full-size SUVs. Need to carry plywood? Don't let the 4.5 foot bed deter you, the Maverick hauls like a champ with over 1500 pounds of payload and thoughtful tie-down locations for bulkier loads. Tying everything together is a standard hybrid system that gets you 42 MPG around town and 37 MPG combined. As I said: epic.

    • @stevethomas760
      @stevethomas760 2 роки тому +2

      I went to a dealership in rural GA to order mine (10/15), MSRP + $100 deposit. When you can order one do some shopping around. If it's on a dealer's lot it's supply and demand = mark ups

    • @dracer35
      @dracer35 2 роки тому +2

      Just dont pay over MSRP. Ford will obviously see the popularity of the truck and ramp up production because the are in the business of building vehicles to make money. Once they are pumping out mass numbers of these you shouldnt have a problem getting one. Also Ford gets the same profit reguardless. Dealers are the ones scaming people by trying to tack on extra fees. Just find a decent dealer and tell them up front when you order that you will not pay over MSRP and have them sign a priced invoice when placing the order for the vehicle. Dealers will have to comply because they need to sell a certain volume of vehicles to get more allocation from Ford. If they are marking up prices and not selling inventory fast enough, that product allocation goes top other dealers that are getting vehicles to customers and out on the road.
      People seem to have fomo (fear of missing out) these days when in reality, buying a brand new vehicle is absolutely not necessary. Dont base your money spending decisions based on other peoples bad choices. If you want one, you can get one at MSRP but you might have to be patient. Last thing we need is a snowball effect of people overpaying for things they dont need to the point that the prices get so out of control that its not financially feasable to be able to make a purchase when you want to.

      In other words a standard two-door pickup. They only sell in modest numbers to fleet buyers, so profit margins are slim. Even fleet buyers tend to buy four-doors now. Just can't beat how practical it is for outdoor activities (MTB/snowsports/camping), gardening stuff, and the odd home improvement project. Yeah, yeah, yeah, why are most trucks 4 doors? Two doors with with some lockable storage behind the seats would be a nice option. Every where you see all these 4 door trucks with one or two people in them, no one in the back seat. I could use a Maverick if it would hold items (yes sheets of construction material, 2 x 4 x 8 studs, etc) enclosed within the bed and then put a shell over the bed. This Maverick is indeed a crossover without an enclosed cargo space.
    But, nice review guys. 👍

    Maverick Hybrid functionality, design, and style is innovative and outstanding! Alex, I am sure you regret not custom-ordering your own. Great Co video! And I am looking at the maverick as both a vaule option for the Lighting and an alternitive for a CUV. Which the info tement system seems be a Sync 4 lite as aposed to a Sync 3... As my 2020 mustang sync 3 does not look like that at all even with updates.

      Have you updated SYNC 3 to 3.4 with a USB? My 2019 Fusion had the old style (drab grey and rudimentary looking) to much more modern looking when I updated it. In the video, it was just Apple CarPlay on screen but I'm assuming they use at least 3.4 on this new model.

    I have a 2019 Colorado Z71 4WD crew cab that has been a great truck but I could easily live with a Maverick for the way I use a truck which is to haul random crap every once in a while, as a commuter and for infrequent two-track light off-roading. There are only two things that I would want on the Maverick that are not available now: 1) hybrid AWD/4WD availability and 2) SiriusXM availability on the XL and XLT trim levels. SiriusXM is available on the Lariat trim but I don't want anything more than an XLT.

    Regarding hybrid and AWD, I think Ford struck a good balance. Remember Ford was always trying to hit a price point and AWD was always going to add $1000-2000 to the base price. And the Turbo motor does deliver for the "I need to tow" crowd, where the hybrid just never would. Given the arbitrary limitation of offering only 2 engine options in such a low-end model, a FWD hybrid and AWD Turbo is a good compromise, especially since the FWD hybrid is hugely efficient AND delivers quite good payload numbers. It really only suffers when it comes to towing and if one lives in the harshest latitudes of the snow belt.

    if I am going to buy 4 x 8 plywood I’m going to have the seller cut it down in at least one dimension, if not both before loading just to make handling it easier in my small shop. I would be more inclined to use it for moving furniture, picking up mulch and plants, and going to the dump. My Outback has worked well on those fronts so far (and my 2004 Honda Pilot before that) but at the risk of unwelcome smells or bugs invading the cabin area. That’s what makes the Maverick such a viable and valuable alternative, especially for the price. Not having Sirius/XM radio available on the lower trims is just dumb (I must have my tunes), but I am torn on the lack of AWD in the hybrid model. I don’t go off-road but we do get snow so that would be a concern. I wonder if having a second set of more aggressive tires on hand would compensate.
