Love orient watches (i.m.h.o they're just as good as most seiko divers) this was interesting for me because ive never been hands on with the citizen p.m but this review has shown what a little gem ive been missing lol t.y for this great review.
You should also add the bezel marking and alignment there. I think all Kamasu has misaligned markings - meaning some part of the bezel minute markings align dead on with the dial minute marking but at other parts it’s not.
The only cons for citizen is their bracelet. But the overall quality of watch itself is far better than skx. I myself own an skx but thinking to buy the promaster soon
Great review, I have the citizen and love it, actually got the coke version with the horrible metal bracelet. Thought your opinions were well balanced and agree that it’s a basically down to what you want from your diver. Keep up the excellent videos!
Yes, the NY0040 is a great watch and I would use it under most circumstances over almost any other watch, for any other challenge , short of a G-Shock, but they don't hit the mark design/dial wise TBH?
I have a promaster and the Mako. The noticeable difference is naked weight. Orient weights 10 grams more than the Promaster. With bigger thickness it wears less comfortable on strap, just too much weight on one side. That weight difference imo is the main differentiator in comfort.
Good comparison, thanks. I would like to see a lume comparison after 20 minutes. That's what matters. All watches look good at 2 minutes. The Kamasu would not stay on my wrist because of uncoated sapphire crystal glare. I wish it were cheaper with mineral crystal, or more costly with AR. Index of refraction of sapphire is 1.76 vs. 1.50 for glass, meaning much more reflection off sapphire. Hence, the need for AR coatings. I put a high double domed clear AR coated sapphire crystal on my Kamasu, and it transformed the watch. I also adjusted my Kamasu on a time grapher and now it wears +1 second per day. I really don't know how much the Orient f6922 movement slows as it winds down. It was originally +6 seconds. Does the Citizen NY0040 have a gasket on stem like the SKX? The Kamasu only has a crown gasket. It is NOT a real diver. To me, that is biggest problem with Kamasu and all these water resist "dive" watches.
You obviously know your stuff. I had the Kamasu, the Promaster and my special edition San Martin side by side for 3;nights in a row to compare. San Martin won the lume test. Promaster a close second and the Kamasu was almost completely dead after 6 hours. Tested midnight to 6 am each time.
@@jamesblank2024 No I haven't. My Promasters have all been really good, especially those running the older 8203 movement. The newer 8204 has sacrificed some accuracy for the hacking function which annoys me.
@@jamesblank2024 The NY0040 in black or blue are excellent and stunning to look at...the quartz version left me cold, though I do prefer the greater accuracy. The quartz wears VERY large!
You sound like me yet I want the safety of mineral as I trashed a great watch when the sapphire crystal smashed and the face and hands took the brunt. I am always on the go as well BUT everyone has there own personal choice :)
Hi John everyone and their uncle in the watch review world seems adamant that sapphire is much better than mineral or hardlex apart from yourself. I’ve seen a Pepsi version of the citizen watch and think it looks great but I’m put off with the mineral crystal. Should I be?
The Promasters are tool watches with an ISO rating to 200m. If you are a scuba diver in and around coral reefs or on shallow rocky waters then the mineral crystal is ideal as it will scratch rather than shatter. I am clumsy with my watches and do a lot of woodwork and DIY. I have had two sapphires shatter. One so badly it ruined the watch. It is a tool watch but you can buy sapphire crystals for it at around $35 if you need it. Hope this helps
Personally I really do not like hardlex found on Seikos. It is flat, uninspiring and detracts from the dials. In my experience I have found it scratches far more easily than conventional mineral glass.
The fugu is a much better watch . It’s an ISO rated diver a real tool watch. I own the NY0086 Pepsi version of the fugu . The Orient is nice but not a real diver . I own two Orient MFORCE watches and the original Orient Triton with power reserve . Those a true ISO rated divers . The Fugu compares better to the Seiko SKX . I own the SKX009 as well.
Perhaps you are not aware that the Promaster has had a hackable movement for over 2 years now. Also, as an ISO6425 diver it has Mineral that will not shatter :)
Nope . Not the Fugu. The NY0040 now ships with the upgraded Miyota 8204 movement which is the upgrade from the non hacking 8203 movement. Prices at the moment here in Europe are around £170 so absolutely comparable. Still my favourite watch as it wiped the floor with the SKX in terms of accuracy and also regularly beats the F6922 ( Orient ).
@@han7902 It was actually the Promaster that rekindled my passion for watches. Had I not seen it on the Urban Gentry channel seven years ago this channel would probably not have started. I love them and at one point had nearly all of the original colours. Black, blue, full Lume and the very rare yellow with the yellow rubber strap! Thanks for watching 🙏😊
I think I understand what you have said. In my experience of buying many Promasters and Orient Makos, Kamasus and Rays, the Citizen is the better movement for accuracy. Your experience of course may be different. Thanks ;)
@@silverghost4206 haha, no apologies necessary. We all have our favourites. For me it can be difficult as a reviewer to stay completely objective but I try. Thanks for watching.:)
Horses for courses. I would have both. Kamasu is the dressier of the two. Promaster is more rugged and far more accurate and that is my preference but everyone likes watches for their own reasons. Thanks for the comment ;)
Good choices
Great work with the comparison. For me I'd probably get both. The citizen for proper diving and the Kamasu for the desk diver.
Hi buddy. Thank you. Best to show folks that they do have real choice. Horses for courses as they say! :)
Best bang for the buck PROMASTER BABY
Love orient watches (i.m.h.o they're just as good as most seiko divers) this was interesting for me because ive never been hands on with the citizen p.m but this review has shown what a little gem ive been missing lol t.y for this great review.
I'm choosing between the two right now but honestly I may buy both eventually. Nice Lordmatic btw
Thanks. They are two completely different takes on the dive watch theme.
Helped my decision a lot. Thanks laddy
Haha.... haven't been called laddy in 40 years. Glad I helped 😀
I own both & enjoy each one equally!
...as you should :)

Yeah....but it's just as good as the basic jubilee on the SKX :)

Thanks Elliot. Always good to hear a fair and sensible opinion rather than n being told I am wrong! :)

@@johnswatchjoint I'm trying to decide on the NY0040 or the quartz BN0151.

For me sapphire glass is a must. I’m to careless and I continuously rub my watch against things. I’m not what you would call a 9-5 office person.

Thanks for the explanation John. I’m definitely a bit clumsy myself 😱. So what’s Hardlex like?

The pro master has the unique look for sure. But i would prefer kamasu for the hackable movement and sapphire crystal.

@johnswatchjoint Fugu cost double, not comparable to ny0040 nor kamasu.

The orient triton would smash that citizen. Also, the orient star air diver would clip that citizens wings.
Unfortunately we are not in the same price category. Remember the Citizen cost £140! :)

Orient kamasu is 10X better looking that Promaster in my opinion ...clear winner there...

Promaster got its own vibes
I pick the dressier Kamasu as my desk diver. For a tool watch, a would wear a G-Shock instead.
