Hi! How are you? ✨How do you decide which books to keep and which to let go? Here's how we decluttered books at home:
    1. Gathered all books in one place
    2. Factored in storage space
    3. Sorted books into categories
    4. Found duplicates
    5. Identified our favourites first
    6. We (should) try not to buy new books until we’ve finished unread books :)
    7. We borrow books from the library
    8. We planned where we’ll donate our books
    9. Limited the amount of sentimental books
    10. Started a digital collection on our Kindle
    11. Regularly assess our book collection
    12. I love the idea of creating a lending library for friends!
    11. I remind myself that letting go of a book doesn’t erase the memories or the feelings it gave me...

As a senior, I'm again making life-style changes and downsizing. My books are one of the most difficult categories to go through. Photos - Music - Books

We recently downsized from a house to an apartment, I can relate to how big of a process it can be. Going through books is challenging because they often hold so much sentimental value. Downsizing really forced us to simplify, but for us it was worth it... We love living in the city, and maintaining and cleaning a smaller apartment is so much easier than taking care of a big house.

@@calmnordic Thank you for the encouragement. I've always been a reader and want them to be enjoyed as much by someone else. Anything and everything to explore and envision, and every genre a movie in my mind. 📚

In my mimimilism journey, my books were the hardest to downsize. Started with 180, now down to 50.

Sounds like you are doing great! It's a lot to go from 180 to 50! 📚

I have decluttered quite a bit in my home during the last year and books have been such a challenge. I found a donation center and was able to donate quite a few, but still have several that need to go (mainly cookbooks😮). I also love to visit small local bookstores in Chicago (where I live), and will make most of my book purchases there, but mainly rely on the public library and my kindle for reading❤

Wonderful that you use the public library! In Finland there is a decline in the public library usage, probably due to eBooks. When I was young, we went to the library all the time. I still go to the library, but I see less and less children borrowing "real" books from there. I'm teaching our children to use the library, but nowadays even many of the school books are digital. So they are used to the digital format, and easy access to any book they want. Greetings to Chicago from Finland! 💙

I have just a few art books I keep. The rest, I borrow regularly from our library.

My local library accepts some books so I always check with them first. There are also several book-crossing points near, the problem there is resisting the temptation not to take any! I keep the books I really love and I'm willing to read again or lend to friends and a few sentimental ones. Still quite a big collection, but I'm fine with that.

That sounds like a wonderful approach! I love book-crossing points, it's super nice to sometimes accidentally notice one. That happens rarely though. But I totally understand the temptation to take more books home!

That is such a problem. I had wondered what happened to a few books I had "bought". Yup amazon got rid of them and denied me any access to them. But will they refund anyone? Nope. The money is gone and so is what I thought was my book.

I have 7 bookshelves in my home and a lot of books on tables. Once a year I browse through my books and look for books that I didn't enjoy or know I won't open again. Usually that generates 2 - 3 shopping bags of books that I donate to the local library. Other people have their fancy cars, expensive jewelry, or knick-knack collections but I love my books and I'm okay with having book clutter. My eventual goal is to turn one of my spare rooms into a cozy private library. Maybe even get built-in shelves for it made.

Thank you for this video and the music is so well thought out. I have loved books since a child and my favourite place is a cosy bookstore. Thank you for showing us around your favourite book stores. I try to donate now when I finish a book there are a few I keep such as Harper Lee to kill a mockingbird I read it as a young adult and it really resonated with me. I loved your cosy book corner. I always like a new book to read over the Christmas period it’s so cosy at that time of year. I really like your videos so soothing.

I love that you mention Christmas! We were talking about it recently at home, how we already look forward to reading books during the Christmas holidays. ❤️ Thank you for the lovely comment! Have a wonderful day!

@@calmnordic I think it’s wonderful that as a family you read a good book over the holiday season. I have a kindle it’s good for travel. I agree you can’t beat the feel of a good book and much prefer to read that way. I also love Tove Jansson Moomintroll books.
