When Good Crows Go Bad

- A gang of crows pick on an old dog in Waterlow Park (in Highgate, London). Interesting to watch through as the crows seem to develop a strategy, but what for? Checky was only carrying 20p and an old comb.

All a cunning distraction while their unseen crow friend was lifting cameramans wallet.
+Ted Crilly Shit he figured it out.

Ted Crilly Smart
Crows just get bored and check stuff out. But yes, they actually do develop team based strategies and work together to do things. They're very social animals, ridiculously smart.
They're very smart and I have no doubt that they saw it as a potential source of food. If they see an animal that's is weak and is getting close to dying from age (or anything, really), they'll stalk it and wait for it to die.
If that was true, they'd wait further away from it till it died(crows only eat carrion of larger animals),....they might be trying to shoo it out of the area(possibly their young nearbye).
i think they smell death wandering around the dog. when i watched that dog, i realize, that dog is very old and on 100% not healthy. i have many times seen crows testing a health of some weak or bad looking animals. in a Czech expression could "crow" mean something like burial employee. someone who put deaths under ground or eliminate them other ways.
Crows don't eat dogs, you idiot. The dog is old, not unhealthy. There's a difference.
Crows eat anything edible, including humans (hence their latin name "corvus corone" - carrion raven), and they show no mercy to anything weak, ever. A flock of them may kill newborn fawns or even calves. In the video, they were "playing", but they were also testing the dog's resistance to their taunting, and if the dog had been too weak, they would have attacked it in earnest.
Juvenile crows are like rowdy teenagers. They mellow out when they get older and pair off. They are just having fun by the looks of it.
Fun and fears 🤣
"crows just wanna have fun"
It is so funny... They even don't want to hurt the dog. They're just trolling him for fun. This is amazing.
well not trolling they just want to the dog to feed them with his 💩 pooop
@@zamzar2 completely false
@zamzar2 crows don’t eat poop. Wtf
@@leannezezeski-sass2773 its true, these are poopy ravens, park ravens, eat everything.
They don't want predators around them stupid.
I think the crows were just kidding around. I noticed the dog's tail was wagging. So maybe he found it amusing, too.
@@Ucanchokeonit Holy Shit.
Slow wag and stiff posture are not necessarily a sign of a happy dog. Dogs do this when they hit their tolerance threshold. The crows are wise in keeping to the back end the the dog towards the end.
@@251rmartin Maybe. Crows and dogs are both wicked smart and funny, so neither would surprise me.
Crows wanted the fur...it makes great nesting material.
Dogs also wag their tail when nervous. The dog probably recognized that the crows were keen on investigating, but didn’t know *exactly* what. Plus, it’s not every day that a dog gets messed with by a small murder.
Cute old doggie likes playing with the crows !
Fun fact: crows actually have a thing for pulling other animals tails some think they do it to distract larger animals from their prey others think it's just for fun. I'm not making this up lmao
+J1n777
Maybe another dog attacked some youngs in their tribe earlier, and they seek for weakness to see if they can revenge.
Who knows.
I saw a video where a crow kept pulling at an eagle's tailfeathers to steal it's food.
yes I've observed that too in real life (with a magpie tho) as well as in another crow video
It'sa bit of both, they probably do it "for fun" as instinctive practice, but I've definitely seen videos of them working together, pulling on an animals tail to draw it off whilst the rest go in and steal food.
Not trying to one up you but I actually watched a Northern Grey squirrel sneak up on a chipmunk and pull his tail. It seemed like it was pure mischief. Everything is so much more complicated than we can know
My god.... These animals move like they are in a military formation.... Goddamn incredible.
More like a gang...
its like watching velociraptors hunt.
xD lol
Absolutely.
I thought the same thing. Makes sense, too, because birds are the direct descendants of dinosaurs.
compies!
Clever girl
I love crows and Ravens. My favorite birds. They are incredibly intelligent. They can use tools and fashion them. The are able to distinguish faces and are able to pass that information on to others. They love to play.
What is the difference bettween smart and intelligent in English ?
Quite a striking example of crow ingenuity and sense of humor! And what a good-natured old pup.
The dog was a good sport and knew it was a game. He just stood there looking over his shoulder, waiting.
Beautiful old timer, by the way.
1:23
Look closely, this dog is purposely ignoring the crows while wagging it's tail to get their attention. These are juveniles and are very curious towards everything, when the crows get close to investigate the tail the dog whips round immediately. They are playing, not waiting for the dog to die
😂 that last sentence in your comment caught me off guard 😅
I love how the crows switch from chasing to "just randomly picking the ground like a bird does doo doo doo~" as soon as the dog turns eyes on them
I'll bet those crows have played with him before. I like how the one crow looks up at the tip of his tail and the other crow seems to egg him on to go for it. The poor old dog is just standing there in anticipation... what's takin' so long? And he knows he can't charge aggressively at them or they'll run away for good and end the attention he's after. Too cute.
It's a murder!
I see what you did there!
a very small murder
*attempted murder.
awww, what a gorgeous old Irish Setter, never see these beautiful dogs anymore, you can see this old pup has some stiff joints...
"Bad Crow, bad crow, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when the dog gets you" (No crows were harmed in the making of this vid, all crows are innocent until proven guilty in a court of caw)
Bro best comment
Brilliant!
😄
Underrated 5 year old comment
I have 5 old crows that come here to eat nearly every day. My Dad asked me to take care of them before he died, 20 years ago. There is always 5 of them, so I assume it is the same 5. I didn't know crows lived that long. They are scared of me, and I don't know why. i have never let anyone bother them. I have a 5 gallon feeder with cracked corn and sunflower seed, I also put out suitable food scraps. They love fish scraps. The raccoons get the scraps overnight, so I put out food scraps early in the morning, then sit and have my coffee, and watch them through tinted glass doors.
I am sure this sweet setter is dead by now.God rest in peace.
He looked like a very nice dog and friend
What a lovely, dear old dog. :)
Setter saying to himself: (old man voice) "if I were 20 years younger... Little whipper-snappers"
I think that was some good fun for him though. Like the crows volunteered to do a show at the nursing home.
What a great dog!!! Yeah the crows are having their fun trying to go for that tail. I know that trail. It says "I'm on guard, bit worried" but such a good natured dog to stay steady, is a dog you can trust in so many other iffy situations such as with other dogs and animals. I love watching animal behavior and an especially trustworthy dog.
Iv been coming back to this video for the last 9 years every so often. I love it. They’re all so silly
They're like a bunch of kids daring each other to pull its tail
What a lovely old Setter :-) Bless him.
Old Checky turns his back on the crows but is clearly amused by it all. Great dog.
These were not bad crows! They are mischievous birds by nature and decided to have a little fun with the dog. The dog seem to enjoy being teased by the birds. If the dog had seemed to be a threat the crows probably wouldn't have acted like the same way. Crows like to watch people go about their daily routines just like some people like watching birds.
that good old soul irish setter. love him
I knew he was gonna pull the tail, and started gigglesnorting while waiting for it LOL. I've watched them do it out in the world to eagles, gulls, pigeons, other crows, and reportedly they even sneak up on mountain lions and nip their tails too. They're notoriously brazen and clownish. Great footage!
Crowz do that a lot with animals when they are bored, having fun is a behavior shown on many intelligent animals
Love how the dog is teasing the crows by wagging his tail! They're totally teasing and playing with each other!
Although the dog' s arthritis seems painful, the game with the crows seems to amuse him
I love how the ones in front are like. Nothing happening here just pecking at the ground and the ones in the back are sky opportunist
What a BEAUTIFUL POINTER!❤❤❤
Both parties seem to be having fun. The crows aren't pulling the dog's tail hard enough to hurt it, and the dog is only startling the crows, not chasing them off. It's great seeing how these very different animals interact; a dog turning its back to another means that it intends no harm (possibly using it to "fake out" the crows in this context), and the crows take advantage of that to sneak around the dog, both sides keeping up the game.
Smart loveable rascals! You can almost hear them think😂
Ravens are known for trolling and screwing around with other animals. Smart assholes!
The big (daddy) crow has knocked my hat off a couple of times as I walked around the park - good to know they are just playing...
I love crows! They're so interesting to watch.
crows are more intelligent than dogs
I can totally hear the crows saying, "CAN WE PLEEEASSEEE SIT ON YOUR TAIL?" This is hilarious the even the dog was testing them
Dog: OK this isn't fun anymore.
Crows: Really?
aww the old Irish setter is still the proud bird dog! sure wish there were more of them around, as they made great family dogs.
The crows are just goofing around. They're probably bored and looking for a little excitement.
Mike Foley they need a UA-cam account
Aww, beautiful old dog still want to play. Lovely to watch.
Love to see them playing with the dog! ❤
It's a contest among the crows about Who Will be able to touch the dog's tail :D
Damn full gangster bunch of crows!🤣🤣🤣
they aren't hunting. crows aren't pack hunters. they're scavengers. they are the most intelligent of all birds and their brain structure and though process is akin to primates. they have a well developed sense of play and a sense of humor. they're just having the old dog on.
That's happened to me too. If it's not windy I leave balls of hair from my German Shepherd out in early spring. Magpies and blackbirds really appreciate it.
They ARE pack hunters, but of smaller birds, like doves. It is rare, however, and more common in breeding season and a few months after.
that was scavenging. imagine that dog's vulnerability without the companion holding the camera.
By the fact that they didn't fly away after the dogs first playful bounce towards them shows that they did not see the dog as much of a threat.
And each time he did it, they created less of a distance. They where understanding this is more play then aggression.
Or, at least that is what I think :p.
I think they're trying to murder the dog.
Looks like they are playing, birds love the 'chase me I'll chase you' catch the tail game :)
These are so cute, having fun. t
These are juveniles, they are rambunctious & hang around in a pack, kind of like teenagers. When they get older they find a mate, settle down &l stay with for life.
omg this was cute as hell, look at them playing together!! ❤❤❤
Crows are always in that spot between curiosity and fear, not being able to decide for one of the 2.
Looks like the dog was having fun too!
Lol the ending is perfect, the dog pretty much said "alright, fuck this shit, you guys win"
By the title I was expecting that the crows are going to eat the dog... but they are just hanging out with their new friend
That's a poor old dog. You can tell by the way he walks. The crows aren't afraid of him at all.
Picking on a poor elderly dog.
That is the point exactly. They will attack the elderly and weak, peck at the 'soft' end of the animal so that it gets an infection and dies, leaving a mountain of food.
nlo114
Thank you for stating the obvious.
Obvious to us both, but not to a greater many others :-)
Really? Is that the reason?
Sorry to say, yes. Crows have enormous brains, compared to most birds, and they use them to suss out situations and figure out what to do. When they see an animal that seems weak, they try to figure out if it's about to die and if so be there when it happens, as well as see if they can't safely figure out a way to hurry the process along or even kill it.
They can see this dog isn't able to move properly, so that's what'they're doing here. If the dog suddenly started running around in a healthy-looking way, they'd find something better to do.
They sure are having fun with the dog. And the dog is too.
I don't think they were trying to be mean to the Setter, they were just intrigued by his tail.
Dog be like, "You aren't gonna get me! I saw the movie!".
Beautiful ol' fella.
They normally seem so calculated, but when they see a tail, they lose their shit and try to bite it
Crows realized this dog was old as hell, and they were planning to roll him and feast for days. :-P
0:52 "We got ya surrounded! Come out wit yer paws up!" 🐕
They saw a certain Hitchcock movie and got all psyched up, and now they're practicing.
All involved are having a fun game. The way the dog holds out its tail make me think it's played the game before, too.
Crows seem to like tails. I've seen numerous videos of crows taking nips at them.
I love those birds and they never seem to really be in a bad mood they just goof off a lot I get it
These are young male crows. And this is basically a test of bravery..... What we call a "rite of passage" 😎👍
That was funny...I just saw a documentary about crows and they love to pull each others tails...I guess they were just having a laugh! Nice one 😀
Having had pet crows it's a genetic instinct but they seem to do it to see if other critter has anything in it's mouth. Pull it's tail and other animal usually opens mouth and drops food and spins around to defend itself. Looks back and food is gone, snatched by other crow. They are literally like a pack of street kid pick pockets.
@@69jbr69 ah! Yes...that makes good sense...thanks for saying...I feed birds and have a couple of crows come every day. ..love watching them..☺
@@helentucker6407 Bird watching is great. If the crows get tame enough where you can feed them by tossing it. Try doing a call to get them to come in and getting them to make sounds to get the treats. They are super smart and will pick it up fast and can copy most sounds. They also remember your face forever and will pass it on to other crows watching that you are a safe supply of food. They love nickel size chunks of scrambled eggs or hamburger for trick learning treats. Just be aware, you might call one day and 20 crows will show up lol.
"TAG"!! "You're it"! Young Crows by the looks.
The dog walks funny, cute
They think that the dog's tail is a type of an odd looking worm.
Ha. When I watched this I wondered if the crows were hoping to pluck a little nesting material. Sparrows always come and use the hair I clean out of the brush after grooming my dog on the patio in the back yard.
Just Me
There's a video of some crows picking fur off of a panda for nesting, so it is a possibilty
dog wags its tail "you want summa this" lol
Crows: "Whattya doing in our neighborhood, old timer?"
Dog: "Just passin through."
Crows: "Not on our turf, sic him, Jim!"
40+ years ago I watched crows working as a team attacking a neighbors dog from behind, while another, at the front was stealing his bone. It was too heavy for it to fly off with, but they managed to get nibbles from it. I was amazed.
Crows always think that a tail is a worm
The crows seem to know that dog is 100+ years old.
Crows are like, you mess with one of us you mess with all of us.
The elderly dog is like: "Get off my lawn you punks!"
Couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the poor old dog. Like a gang of teenagers harassing great grandpa.
I love how you can literally hear other crows laughing in the distance when he pulls his tail. 😂😂
Crows are smart- they like to play, that is the only reason they need, it was fun.
I've seen a LOT of videos where they seem to play bite the tail of cats and dogs. I think that's all this was.
The only time those crows were ever 'good' was in being bad.
lol the animal world's equivalent of "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you..."
Awesome ASMR lmao that's exactly what it was, too!
crows: you came to the wrong neighborhood
'You in the wrong park dawg!'
Fine, and nice crows.
That dog deserves every second of it!
I bet those crows are better at stimulating the dog, than most dog owners these days.
- Hey guys, dinner's about to be served! Let's go!
- ...
- ...
- Die already!
It's a crow game called "pestering the pooch".
They sense the dog is old and vulnerable.....they think he could be future lunch....sad....
Ah, bless, I think they were all playing, the dog was wagging his tail, I think he was letting them play. I'm trying to befriend the crows in the park across the road from my house, I had about 15 surround me the other day, they have so much character. I am trying to get them in my garden too, but I worry what the neighbours think, when I hold a slice of bread in the air and shout "CROW! - Oi CROW! - I'VE GOT BREAD! AND ALSO PEANUTS!!!" (it works in the park!) :D
They seem to want to get the dog's tail!
They look fascinated when the dog's tail 'wags,' and the one really seems to want to just latch onto it!
I befriended a crow, I named it Poe after the author of the poem The Raven, Edgar Allen Poe. Poe and I have become friends, despite me being a human and Poe being a crow, but I say good morning to them , and Poe responds, I think Poe will tell their fellow crows that I’m a interesting person to know, and maybe they’ll give me shiny things, I like shiny things. I prefer crows over people any day, because crows are not as awful as people are. I want a pet crow. I think I found my spirit animal, a crow, and crows are my familiar, I’m kind of a witch, and I have a deep fascination with crows.
crows be like "GET IN ATTACK FORMATION!"
