I have actually considered doing this exact project but now have decided first to build one from scratch. I enjoy the design aspect of doing this as much as the building hence my plan. Can't wait to see you progress.
That is so true… I do love the designing. Yeah I’m enjoying the process but I still like my cargo trailer camper better. It’s built just right for me! I’d be a bit worried about ruining this one in the bush!
I’m excited to see how it all turns out, it’s really a cute little trailer. I just couldn’t stand to see it not being used, it needs to be out camping. Thanks for following along in the adventures!
Working on renovating the exact same trailer. Thankfully my shell seems to be in good shape. No significant damage. Looks like it did buckle under snow load at some point, but not enough to crack the shell. People aren’t aware that these trailers, or probably most trailers, should have the roof reinforced with a removable interior support of some kind (a 2x4 does the trick) when they are parked for the winter. Most of the damage I’m dealing with is to the interior panels due to those leaky windows as you mentioned, and also a leaky stove hood vent. Plus the exterior of the door is in pretty rough shape and will need to be replaced. I shouldn’t have to remove the upper cabinets (fingers crossed). I’m hoping to just have to remove the wall panels from the upper cabinets down, replace the window seals, flooring (maybe floor panels, hopefully not), and rebuild from there. LOVE your tip about using the old parts as templates for making new parts. I’m looking forward to this series. I’ve already learned so much from just the first 5 mins! Just an unsolicited tip for you or anyone else renovating a trailer, it’s better to use marine-grade materials rather than residential construction materials such as sealants and silicones. Marine-grade is already going to be waterproof, plus it’s also made to be flexible whereas residential construction materials don’t need to factor that in. In something like an RV with tons of movement and vibration, having that flexibility is key. Marine-grade can be more expensive, but worth it to not have to redo the repairs/renos. Got that tip from a professional van conversion builder. I plan to live full-time in mine when it’s finished while I save to buy a piece of land. But getting these trailers for cheap and doing the work yourself is such a score. Since fully renovated they go for big $$$.
You sound like you know what you are doing. Great tips. The layout of the trailer and size makes it perfect for what you have in mind. I’d love to see yours when it’s done. Maybe u can send pictures via Instagram. Hope all goes well.
Im doing the same thing on the same trailer. I am puzzled on how to reinforce the roof. I have demoed the fixtures and the cabinets. I had the same idea as you of deconstructing the cabinets then use as a template. I didnt feel it was worth it. I am considering making the cabinets "structural" out of baltic birch plywood. Very much looking foward to progress videos. Subscribed.
Excellent glad to have someone along that has the same trailer and is doing the same thing! Especially since you already are started! 😄 As for the roof I was thinking about adding ribs up there, but after I thought about it I think the original design of SIP construction is fine and makes it the super lightweight, can’t put an air conditioner up there but I’m ok with that. I’m not sure about the cabinets, I haven’t really looked closely at them yet. I did use plywood in my cargo trailer but I really want to keep this trailer weight down I just don’t think the frame is built strong enough for much weight. I think your right they need to be structural, I was thinking of adding some spindles or metal rails between the lower and upper cabinets. Anyways let’s see… if you figure something out please let me know, glade to have you along.
Nice, I have noticed that. My parents are in Alberta and they are always for sale out there. They are a little harder to find out here. I really love the design!
Hi, yes I’m still selling the guides. Thanks for letting me know about the website, it’s been giving me problems lately. I’ll get on it and let you know when it’s fixed.
I just a B17 1984. I'm so greatful I've found your channel. I have delamination on the front.
Glad to have you along… it seems like a great little trailer and super light!

Oooooh boy! Looks like your're on a roll again. This should be good. And because I am one of your first subs, I want a front row seat! 😀
You bet… back in the early days of my last fibreglass trailer. Really appreciated your input, it sure helped last time! 😄👍
Watching your camper renovation journey has been so exciting. The end result is beyond amazing!
Thanks so much! 😊
Wow, after seeing what you did to your cargo trailer, I can't wait to see your series on the new trailer! Thanks for sharing this with us!

I just recently picked up a 81 B17 here in Victoria B.C. Canada that also needs a bit of work. Really excited to see this content. Thanks a lot :)
Right on! It’s almost done, I just resealed all the windows over the last couple days. It’s a beautiful trailer… I really like the layout!

I'm really looking forward to this build. A lot of those older smaller trailers have better layouts than new trailers similar in size.
Yeah I totally agree and at just over 2000lbs dry they are pretty light as well… pretty solid little trailer if it was looked after.
Quite the project
Definitely will be a great before and after video!
Yeah you got it!

We also have a 1983 Bigfoot B17. Love it!
❤❤❤
What does your firebox panel look like and does it list what all fuses are for? Thanks
I replaced it with a modern one.
Looking forward to this build. You are one smart guy. I hate guys like you. Lol 😂😂😂
😂 Not sure about that…. You just don’t see all the mistakes and redos. I cut those out of the videos…. If I filmed everything you’d wonder 🤪
looking for window repair
Where did you end up finding this one? I saw the Campkin’s RV sticker on it. They’re like 10 mins away from me. Lol
I picked it up in Oshawa. 👍
Well that certainly makes sense! Good luck with the build. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next uploads. 👍🏻
@@waysoutbackWe are in BC where they are more common as they are from here. I have a 1983 B17 also.

Hi Zack, I'm trying to buy your guide Cargo to Camper, but it says there has been a critical error on this website. Are you still selling the guide?
Hi, yes I’m still selling the guides.
Thanks for letting me know about the website, it’s been giving me problems lately. I’ll get on it and let you know when it’s fixed.
Ok it’s all fixed! Again thanks for letting me know and if you have any questions please just ask.
@@waysoutback I just bought the guide, and checking it out now. It looks like it's going to really help us out a ton! Thanks Zack!
