3:09 is when it started going downhill for Rob. Look how well that hook lands, it even stuns Rob but the commentators don't really notice it. That really cracked him and made him hesitant.
Up until 3:09 he was absolutely winning it, fighting beautifully. Rob should've beaten him, though, perhaps it just wasn't his day. However, it's really good to see Izzy gone and the division being anewed. Rob still has 2-4 years to go and I see him getting the belt back. Though, after that I think he wil be done. He's got one more run IMO.
True, up until that point he looked slick and Du Plessis looked slow. Think Du Plessis just landed a lot heavier and stunned Rob, he felt his strength with the grappling at the end of the first round too.
Adesanya is tense. He himself lost to someone, and one of the best (Whittaker) whom he defeated also lost to someone else. So it appears to him that there are multiple competitors who might be better than him. But Whittaker didn't look bad at all. It is quite possible he would defeat Du Plessis if they were to fight again.
This is the first time I seen Du Plesiss fight.Looked like he beat his opponent pretty convincingly being 2-1 underdog. But I just started watching mma again recently.
Lets hope that silly war stopps so we can see him finally have a challange, I'm still voting for Dricus though. Khamzat deserves a title shot with what he is been through but Dricus also comes from a hard life they both want the money they both love the fight
Whittaker definitely looked off after he landed that takedown against Dricus. Once Dricus got up, his body language shifted like he ran out of gas or tweaked something
Much as i love Whittaker, I always wonder why dude doesn't throw enough body shots, keep his opponents guessing. Even some obliques or mid kicks to the body. Would've made all the difference in this fight because Du Plessis was open alot for body work.
I guess because it's been working so well for him since switching divs. Cannoneer kind of exposed him when he switched southpaw for a while during their fight.
That timing was perfect by Du Plessis man. But how unfortunate was Bobby to lean into the jab when all he had to do was manage his distance from the angle he was going, it happened so fast he didn’t register his movement hitting him on his left side. Great fucking fight. I had Whittaker winning btw
We’ll see, ddp still has a bad habit of mouth breathing. As of right now I only see him running strong in the first three rounds, I don’t think he’ll do well in the 4th and 5th against someone like Sean. But we’ll see, he has a decent chance of knocking Sean early or even submitting him.

Nah.. there are LOTS of Champions.. there are very few GOATS.. you have to be extraordinary to be a goat.. above ALL of the rest.. and accomplish things that NO OTHER FIGHTER has EVER DONE! A goat not only CLEANS OUT the whole entire division.. they start to LAP it.. until they just run out of fighters to fight.. and they just sit in that place.. where it's lonely at the Top.. with no one left to fight who they have not already beaten. You can be a GREAT Champion.. and still never ever achieve true GOAT status - I do NOT see what you you see.. that makes you think DDP will be a greater UFC Middleweight Champion with a longer win streak in both wins and title defenses.. than Izzy or Anderson Silva.. and personally I dont think DDP has a friggin' cold chance in hell of EVER accomplishing even HALF of what Anderson Silva or Izzy has done in the middleweight division.. especially after coming back here and re-watching this fight! Dont get me wrong.. DDP is good.. very good.. but he is NOT great!

I never actually watched this full fight until now, and I feel like the narrative made it sound way more dominant for DDP. Obviously he was the underdog, and a 2nd rd finish was huge, but I didn't feel like he was dominating the fight, I thought Rob was winning the first 4 minutes til that takedown. DDP really just had 2 big moments, that takedown in the first and the big shot in the 2nd, he just made them count.
DPP still did way more damage at the end of the first than Robert did the entire first 4 minutes. Its fighting...not point sparring. You often only need one big moment.
@@alexyo2440 nah Rob lost the second, he threw 2 right hands all fight and just got his legs pummelled. was close just because Izzy didn't have much to do, bc Rob was afraid of getting his right countered, so it ended up being a bit of a stale mate. shit fight tho, I was pretty annoyed at Rob tbh.
Dricus seemed to hit nothing but air the first 2 and a half minutes. Then at around the half way point of the round he landed a right hand that backed robert up to the fence a bit, and forced rob to circle out uncomfortably. From that point forward the complexion of the fight seemed to change and Dricus turned into the one landing meaningful shots and a takedown. And he never let go of that lead the rest of the fight.
It's so insane to me the Dricus literally drops Whittaker but it takes him a full 4 seconds to finally realize it, just retreating with his hands covering his head for no reason
I didn't really watch the full fight but now that I watch it, DDP didn't walk down Rob like it was easy lmao. He did a good job and kept the fight competitive, but Rob was landing some good shots on DDP.
I know exactly what you mean. I came back to watch because so many ldiots were saying that DDP absolutely dominated and destroyed Bobby knuckles. All I'm seeing is a competitive fight from both of them. Tough loss for Rob, but it wasn't a complete walk down like so many said.
Three things to point out and I noticed as a fan observing this fight ahead of Dricus fight with Sean and what could be ways Sean or Dricus exploit each others cons to win: 1. Dricus and Rob were neck and neck close during the first round and I’d argue Rob was winning rd1 until he foolishly decided to try and go takedown Dricus again rather than keep at range distance and opt for more counter strikes. Dricus also had a good case with his constant pressure or jabs. 2. During round 2 Dricus was outplaying Rob and figured out his stance early on. Rob did do good and was probably just about adjusting despite not being able to figure out dricus during the round. After dricus laid the right hand jab that stunned Rob you can see Rob mentally gave up and allowed dricus to exploit him finding his range and pace while he was trying to escape the TKO 3. Dricus gas tank is definitely not as big of an issue compared in large to some of his previous fights where his nose issue was clearly bothering him however I noticed he still get tired very easily and has issues maintaining long distance of pressing his opponents through Stamina. He does well enough to pressure or finish off his opponents off big will which is why he also wins his fights. However his cardio is def still very questionable and relies on pressure to win. Dricus also has a chin similar to Leon where he’s receptive to jabs or hits that can stun him which leaves him in the open to be knocked down easily(We have seen this with the till, Brunson and Brad Tavares fights where he almost has been knocked out). Since Sean is also a pressure pace fighter and jab specialist with extrodinary defence, he can counter and exploit Dricus chin by jabbing or putting him in a displaced Philly shell shot. If he also can exploit and get Abus, Izzy, urijah hall, Jack hermansson or even Brendan Allen knocked down he will be able to do the same to Dricus. I can’t wait for this fight this is just a general assessment I wanted to point out as a fan of the sport and possibly a open discussion anyone here wishes to have in the comments below to add on to this topic.
A small point, but since DDP had his nose fixed it had to have had an effect on his cardio. My septum is deviated, and it's difficult to breathe when going hard. The doctor inserted some straws in my nose to simulate what normal breathing is supposed to be like. It blew my mind, in that, I had no idea the restriction to breathing through the nose I have. I'm sure once his restriction was removed, he probably had a HUGE performance gain, as well as a psychological awakening. I dislike DDP's personality but he is a legitimate threat to the whole division.
@@justsayin3600 interesting that’s great to know as perspective from someone who’s also had that issue. I’m a fan of DDP fighting style and I like the guy. I def think he’s gotten new gain confidence he has all the tools as well as strategy to win and he screams champion. I don’t think his cardio is a massive issue as it once had been but I do notice he can still tire out a bit but that again is probably due to the fact he had his first fight adjusted to the post surgery effect
I think the DDP/Strickland fight gets decided on the ground. I'm interested in seeing what happens when DDP inevitably changes levels to mix it up. Seeing Sean get taken down by an already tiring Abus Magomedov in Round 1 of their fight tells me that DDP can do the same, plus he probably has the physicality and tenacity to make it count if he can get Sean down. I think in the stand up, Sean will push DDP on the back foot pretty quickly, where Dricus has very poor striking ability because of his awkward footwork and heavy shelled up guard. I reckon Sean will see everything Dricus throws at him in very good time, and unless Dricus gets lucky, he'll lose the stand up pretty badly, maybe getting stopped in the later rounds. But if he can take Sean down and hold him down, and hurt him? It'll be a very interesting fight.
Dricus is gonna force Sean into a dog fight and take him down. Dricus winning the stand up depends on how well he can mix it up. He's a pretty skilled kickboxer but Sean is a threat I just think ddp is more dangerous. I don't see it going past round 2, ddp's mix ups with the takedown threat and his monstrous power is gonna win him the fight.
@@jordandk3293 good point. Dricus is good at counter takedowns or putting his will onto his opponent just to constantly take them down. We saw this when he fought Brad, Trevor Giles, at KSW and recently till/whittaker. Sean isn’t a bad grappler b he manage to get Cannonier down 2-3 times. It’s all up to the pressure and pace off the fight on who wins. Dricus has crisper unorthodox boxing while Dean is fully fundamental

Everyone’s been talking about this as though Duplessis destroyed Whittaker; but it’s just not the case. Yeah he caught Whittaker and won, all credit to him. But he doesn’t seem nearly the calibre to beat Strickland or Adesanya. Honestly I think Gastellum would give him a really hard time. But most of all, we have no idea what the 4th and 5th round will bring. Getting your nose fixed isn’t gonna help that much, it’s not like he couldn’t breath out of his mouth. He’s gonna get pieces up by Sean, and then he’s gonna try to wrestle which might win him a couple rounds at most. But then he’ll get tired and Sean will make him crumble against the cage. Pereira can set you up, but Duplessis has none of that going on at all. He’s just gonna be swinging for a target that isn’t there anymore with Strickland.
This nonsense that is being attempted to build that Rob wasn't in top form. He was. He's fighting beautifully. He's one of those guys who make striking look easy. They have fluid movement, upper body in perfect tandem with their feet and hips, efficient, even graceful. Dominic Reyes is the same. They look good, very natural (though it's hundreds of hours of training). But you can see Dricus did his homework and knew to mix it up, heavily, and steam roller him. That it's such a good demonstration of when a fighter doesn't let the other fighter find a rhythm. Sean likes his rhythm, getting a feel for things. And because Dricus is so messy... you can't know if he's mixing it up or just being messy. DDP, he's a clever brute.
Sean channelled Bisping. I'm betting he's now channelling Masvidal. Who else thinks he's been studying Dricus's fights and decided flying knee in first 10 seconds is the winning strategy?

Strickland had a bit of success to the body in the first and second round, but it's hard to land good body shots when you're going backwards for 90% of the fight
well well well
He makes them too uncomfortable. Body shots are an investment, I think Rob just wanted to knock him out. As for Sean he always fights the same way
Izzy tried going for the body and still got chocked out.
This was Dricus's best performance to date un the UFC. He was controlling the fight from the start and was also leading on points after round 1.
anybody notice how Du Plessis' legs were shaking? good aggression from the winner

3:09 is when it started going downhill for Rob. Look how well that hook lands, it even stuns Rob but the commentators don't really notice it. That really cracked him and made him hesitant.
You’re right
Up until 3:09 he was absolutely winning it, fighting beautifully.
Strickland vs Whittaker
Who would win?
@@deliacolquhoun2845 Whittaker should win. But you never know. Very few people thought Strickland would win against Izzy. But he won convincingly.
Nonsense

Whittaker is overrated
If Whittaker can take DDP down imagine what Khamzat will do to him 🤣🤣🤣🐺
yeah right hhahaha
Lets hope that silly war stopps so we can see him finally have a challange, I'm still voting for Dricus though. Khamzat deserves a title shot with what he is been through but Dricus also comes from a hard life they both want the money they both love the fight
Dricus’s stricking is so ugly, but somehow effective lol
Yeah
agreed. so flat-footed and awkward
Heavy hands and pressure is a deadly combo
Hes goofy looking..looks all gumby legs an his kicks looks like a fat kid throwing them 😂
MMA has had fixed fights for a long time now.
Forever a Whittaker fan, but props and good luck to DDP
Whittaker definitely looked off after he landed that takedown against Dricus. Once Dricus got up, his body language shifted like he ran out of gas or tweaked something
Cos he got flash kod on the mat when those elbows and first bust him up ..he got rocked hard there
Literally my thoughts - it seemed like he gassed to me
@@damonarchary1582Nah. I'm referring to after he took Du Plessis down
😮 HE HITS HARD
De Plessis is like a massive brawler with a thight guard.
that guard is nice!
whos here after Borz vs Rob fightt?
Me
Much as i love Whittaker, I always wonder why dude doesn't throw enough body shots, keep his opponents guessing. Even some obliques or mid kicks to the body. Would've made all the difference in this fight because Du Plessis was open alot for body work.
I guess because it's been working so well for him since switching divs. Cannoneer kind of exposed him when he switched southpaw for a while during their fight.
They both did great and are getting better at fighting. Honestly it almost looked like it could have gone either way.
That timing was perfect by Du Plessis man. But how unfortunate was Bobby to lean into the jab when all he had to do was manage his distance from the angle he was going, it happened so fast he didn’t register his movement hitting him on his left side. Great fucking fight. I had Whittaker winning btw
Brilliant 👏 👏 💪💪💪💪🎉🎉Dricus du Plessis south Africa 🇿🇦.
Du Plesis future goat of MW
We’ll see, ddp still has a bad habit of mouth breathing. As of right now I only see him running strong in the first three rounds, I don’t think he’ll do well in the 4th and 5th against someone like Sean. But we’ll see, he has a decent chance of knocking Sean early or even submitting him.
@@semperfi2014mn that's a double edged sword dude is menace for 3 rounds and has more than enough power to end i rooting for sean tbh but i want to see that ddp vs the black Chinese haha
Nah.. there are LOTS of Champions.. there are very few GOATS.. you have to be extraordinary to be a goat.. above ALL of the rest.. and accomplish things that NO OTHER FIGHTER has EVER DONE!
A goat not only CLEANS OUT the whole entire division.. they start to LAP it.. until they just run out of fighters to fight.. and they just sit in that place.. where it's lonely at the Top.. with no one left to fight who they have not already beaten.
You can be a GREAT Champion.. and still never ever achieve true GOAT status -
I do NOT see what you you see.. that makes you think DDP will be a greater UFC Middleweight Champion with a longer win streak in both wins and title defenses.. than Izzy or Anderson Silva.. and personally I dont think DDP has a friggin' cold chance in hell of EVER accomplishing even HALF of what Anderson Silva or Izzy has done in the middleweight division.. especially after coming back here and re-watching this fight!
Dont get me wrong.. DDP is good.. very good.. but he is NOT great!

Cant stop seeing that now😂
They both had success, the difference was DDP’s durability, he’s just one tough SOB 😳
You often only need one big moment.
the fact that whittacker and pereira were fighting in same weight class is ridiculous
I think Whitaker took DDP too lightly in this one. And he suffered dab for it. I’d love to see them running it back at some point.
rob is a gatekeeper mate lost to izzy twice and hasnt had a finish since 2017
Most overrated fighter ever
he didnt take him lightly after round 1, so...
@@TheSpiderAndersongayWhittaker beat glizzy the 2nd time and destroyed Romero in a firefight.. try again
Dricus fights so weird. It looks like he doesn't even know how to fight. But he keeps beating everyone. it's fascinating
Fr gumby legs..throws kicks like a fat kid, idk what im watching 😂
It's so insane to me the Dricus literally drops Whittaker but it takes him a full 4 seconds to finally realize it, just retreating with his hands covering his head for no reason
I didn't really watch the full fight but now that I watch it, DDP didn't walk down Rob like it was easy lmao. He did a good job and kept the fight competitive, but Rob was landing some good shots on DDP.
Rob was looking sharp until DDP got that takedown and cut him open with those vicious elbows
Look at who had the damage. Doesn't matter what Whittaker did because it didn't affect DDP whatsoever
He was definately dominating him on the ground.
Three things to point out and I noticed as a fan observing this fight ahead of Dricus fight with Sean and what could be ways Sean or Dricus exploit each others cons to win:
After dricus laid the right hand jab that stunned Rob you can see Rob mentally gave up and allowed dricus to exploit him finding his range and pace while he was trying to escape the TKO
