I am Indian and all my English mates like Dishoom. I do think its pricey for what it is. If you went in the evening your meal would have cost a lot more, also think its a bit of a concept/theme restaurant rather than really authentic. I always prefer to go to local Indian restaurants run by families over chains to get proper Indian food.
The funny thing is that Dishoom is a family business) It was started by the younger members of the Tilda rice family) It is kind of authentic, albeit to a certain type of Indian cuisine, maybe slightly softened for western audiences. Personally I think its quite good, even though the dishes aren't exactly my all time favourite Indian dishes, but its well put together, flawlessly executed, & is quite tasty. Problem with most local Indian restaurants in the UK is a) Majority are Bangladeshi run, which arguably still is Indian food, but again a regional cuisine b) Im often just disappointed by the quality of the food as its not well thought out and prepared c) Those local restaurants often use preprepared curry sauces, if you look closely into the kitchens you can see big vats of Pateks catering sauces which explains why a lot of say Lamb Baltis all taste the same Lol. If we talk about the desi pubs they are different story usually not the best either with a few gems here and there if you go on a good day, & the posh Indian ones Trishna, Cinnamon Club etc are often just odd, a fusion of some kind of European haute cuisine & Indian food. You can do a lot worse than Dishoom, & I really like the way they do certain things eg they look after the staff and for instance take them all to India for training so they understand different foods, spices etc. That explains why the staff are usually in a good mood, & enthusiastic about the food) Would love Gary to visit India to check out different foods, would be really interesting)
@@zatarawood3588 My point is its a commercialised concept. Right down to the dishes being served. How many Indians do you see in these establishments? It a brand that is designed to make English/British people feel like they are eating Indian food in India as opposed to the UK and it works. Indian food has soo many variables, every family cooks a particular dish in a different way. That's what makes independent restaurants unique, some are good some are bad. If you go to a restaurant in Wembley or Southall you wouldn't get hardly any of the food on the menu in Dishoom.
Went to the Brum Dishoom a couple of weeks ago - I thought it was brilliant - had the Okra and gunpowder potatoes as well! As a vegan, the options were huge and all the food seemed very fresh and very tasty. Service was excellent as well. It was a work thing, so I wasn’t paying the bill either which was a bonus - think it probably is on the pricey side!
Great review from Gary. I like how he keeps to describing the food. Other food critics tend to go off on a tangent, telling us one of their life stories. Top work
Dishoom gets a lot of heat but genuinely speaking as an Indian, their dishes are authentic and traditional. Their biriyani is exactly how we make it at home probably once a week. The tandoori roti is exactly how we make it except we make it on the tava. And the potatoes are exactly how our aloo sabzi is, except we chope the potatoes smaller. This is authentic and traditional North Indian food. Sure it's pricey but it is good quality tasty goodness.
I love Dishoom in Brighton, I give it a 9/10. Sometimes we go in & order the Byriani & lots of starters. But don't forget, every meal you buy they donate one to the homeless community. So it's doing stuff for the community.
Love the food in Dishoom. It's expensive but consistently top quality. However, it always feels rushed at dinner time. Not one of those places that offers you drinks and lets you sit for an hour or two - which is what I expect at that kind of price point. Another great vid - thanks!
When I saw Dishoom popping up on my recommendations Gary, I assumed you were there for breakfast. The bacon in a naan on the breakfast menu is a tremendous hangover cure! Possibly not the most authentic dish though! Top review as always 👍
Greetings from Laguna Beach CA Gary. I’ve been telling everyone about your channel, will be purchasing some hoodies soon and wearing them here in CA! Another great episode and I think I would have loved the Okra Fries. Looking forward to your next episode. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Glad you managed to get down and try Dishoom. Interesting dishes you went for, Gary. Not ones I would typically go for but they looked nice. You'll have to do round 2 one day and try their breakfast menu.
I can imagine most of their clients are bankers and businessmen it looked very nice and good quality Gary. Great review as always catch you on the next one, take care, Gareth
In Canary wharf yes they are all finance guys) ... however if you went to the original one in Covent Garden they would be shoppers & a lot of tourists, if you went to the Kings Cross one it would be a lot of art students as a fashion school is just around the corner ... I did wonder myself how they afford it, god knows, but anyway it depends on which one you go to. Id say with prices rising everywhere, in London its only 20% more than you'd expect to pay in a modest local Indian restaurant these days. I think Gary paid 15 quid for the biriyani, it would be at least £12 even at the cheapest Indian restaurant you went to nowadays) If you went to a posh central London Indian restaurant they would charge £25! So all in all, I think its ok for what you get)
Gary great to see your sub count rising all the time. Have recommended your channel to family and friends. Nicely done, low key, thorough, respectful and very well done food reviews
I’ve never had okra but am now keen to try it. We stayed at Claridges last year. A mad splurge of cash! And we stepped round to breakfast twice at Dishoom and it was so relaxing, chill and tasty. Looking forward now to having dinner there. Thanks for another great video.
I'm a British born of Indian descent and it shouldn't be categorised with other Indian restaurants and nor should the flavours be that akin to typical Indian restaurants. That is not what it is trying to be. The ethos is to get the feeling of being in one of the Mumbai Parsi Irani restaurants and more flavours of Mumbai Street food, which is some of the best street food in India. I travel to Mumbai every year and frequent the Mumbai Parsi Irani cafes and Dishoom do offer those typical dishes such as Keema Pav, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, the different types of Chaats and obviously the chai. One of my fav is the chilli cheese toast which is Mumbai street food at its core, so Dishoom does well to offer food that is typical of Mumbai, i.e not just the typical North Indian dishes that every Indian restaurant tend to offer. It is slightly more expensive than my local Indian restaurant but I don't get that type of Mumbai food that Dishoom offers.
What a fabulous review! These upmarket places usually have food which isn’t too good but this was a delightful surprise. That roti looked so delicious. I would have loved to see you combine it with the potatoes by wrapping a piece round a piece of potato which is how it should be eaten.
Yummy..I love a Biryani(king prawn)..my local puts a very delicate lace omlette on top...(no idea how they make it look so beautiful)?..more for presentation but it works. Those gunpowder potatoes looked yummy too. Ty for sharing sharing Gary🎉
Gary can’t believe you were in Bristol a few weeks ago and didn’t try urban tandoor Indian small street best curry you’ll ever have. Let’s give it ago.
Nice review Gary , as always I am now addicted to your reviews , Get yourself to India and experience real Indian food , start in the North , Punjab and then head to the South, you will experience a completely different style of food , just focus on street food , you will love it ! Keep it up , nice review !
Everyone's new dream job: operating the camera for Gary, just to hang out with such a warm person and off-camera enthuse about good food. Great review as always! Good luck with building the spice tolerance!
I thought that wasn't overly expensive, like you said gary, there was plenty there for two, looked great! as always a fair review, look forward to the next one.
Hi Gary and Mr Cameraman. Well what a great place you went to tonight, as soon as you arrived there the smells got you, that says it all to me. I know there is only so many dishes you can try, but i was hoping you tried the lamb, i always think that tells you a good restaurant. I did smile when you said the Okra was fresh (i.e. not black like the other day) and i was hoping it was because of my e-mail i sent re said vegetable. Your score i thought was ok, i gave it a 9/10 but like i always say, I did not taste the food so bow to you on that one. Chris.
Interesting video and an unusual choice of meal. I've never had a biryani without a side dish of sauce of choice, usually vindaloo. I've checked the online menu and noticed that there too beef is not available. I've yet to hear a realistic reason as to why in 95% of Indian restaurants beef has been removed from menus. Keep up the good work, it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it! 🙂
Great review Gary. I absolutely agree with score you gave, it is pricey and worth knocking the points for those reasons. I agree with others, I'm Asian who grew up with Indian food. Dishoom is a concept place, food is overpriced. Eating at family run restaurant with unique feel is better over chains. However food is good, I've been to top end restaurant that gives you more than two wholemeal roti for same price. I don't know about you, I am finding the hospitality industry in a weird place, everything costs so much more now. I find myself cooking same or better meals at home. However, Dishoom is a great place for special occasions. Glad you tried it. 😊
Whilst I have not been to Dishoom, it looks way better than the majority of restaurants on Brick Lane whose food is anything but authentic and expensive.
Gary the price is not to bad as for London for different areas of London . As i thought that was cheap for Canary Wharf as seen other people eat in that area for different food they paid more for it than you would somewhere else for the same food . But that food looked out of this world when they put it on the table . For the Birry that is the proper way it is served meat always on the bottom and rice on the top .
As one of the other posts says, it wouldn't be what I would order, but have to admit Gary, that looked Fantastico, particularly the Biryani. I don't think the price was excessive and looked like decent sized portions. I will certainly put the Dishroom on my look out list when I travel the highways and byways of the UK!!!
Hi, Mr Gary, hope you are well my friend. As soon as I saw Dishoom I knew you would like it! These chain restaurants always have the best biryanis. But when it's the common curry houses, it has to be onion bhaji, meat samosa, lamb madras, Bombay potatoes, garlic keema nan, and boiled rice! 😋👍💯🌟💚
@@GaryEats . I know because I was the guy who took your order! Lol 😆 (Only joking, my friend!). See you on the next one, or should I say, LET'S GIVE IT A GO! Lol 😆
Today we had lunch in the Carnaby Dishoom restaurant and ordered the same dishes that you had in your video. Even though the restaurant was very busy at two p.m., the food was delicious and the waiting staff was superb. The dining hall was not spectacular compared to other Dishoom restaurants in London but what actually left us speechless and in wonder was the amazing open kitchen on the basement, it was like a stage. Thank you very much, Gary, as we loved your dishes and the place.
Excellent review as always, Gary. As much as I love Dishoom, I agree that it’s slightly pricey for what it is. If you ever return to Dishoom, I can vouch for the lamb chops and the chicken ruby curry. Both moreish (as is everything on the menu). It would be great if you could visit Lahpet (Burmese) or Casa do Frango (Portuguese).
I’ve got my “Lets give it a go” T-shirt on for this one. Gary, I don’t know how you arranged it, but I got mine all the way in Canada in just 4 days and there was no customs paperwork/fees for me to deal with. I should have guessed your merch would be brilliant 👍
Hi Gary, we used to live a stones throw away before we moved to Harrow Place in central London. Been there a few times and never been disappointed, always great service, great food, great ambience, overall a great place. But it's not my favourite Indian in the Docklands, but it's a great place for lunch or dinner for those days you don't feel like cooking. I gave it a 7.5 out 10, but maybe I should reconsider that score in my database, as it was after our first visit. Glad you enjoyed it and enjoyed your time on me old "turf". Another fantastic review, mate, so happy for your success and keep it up, we need an objective and very descriptive food reviewer like you, as you're the best in the business in transmitting the smells, flavours and describing the food in general. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, mate and speak to you soon.😊
Another great review, Gary. I was always a bit sceptical about Dishoom; worried that it might be yet another example of what I see so much of in London right now: namely a trendy and expensive take on what's generally seen as good honest comfort food. The price is indeed high but not outrageously so, when you take into consideration the apparent quality of the food, service and overall experience.
You can pay similar prices on brick lane for very average food, that all looked fantastic. City Spice brick lane has almost identical prices and portion sizes, yet is average and is one of the highest rated on the road. Definitely going to try dishoom.
There are a lot of youtubers (if that's a word) doing restaurant/food reviews, I've seen a few of them and, frankly, Gary (and his long suffering cameraman, do they get to eat ?) should be considering teaching an online course in how to do it properly. Another excellent review which appeals to me, my wife and kids. Dishooms here we come (once we've won the lottery)
The food looked very good,I think they served the Biriani with the chicken on the bottom to replicate the way it’s cooked in India.first the meat, and spices go on the bottom of a large pot on an open fire, then partly cooked rice, and often saffron water is added, then a pastry lid covers the pot, slow cooked,in fact many restaurants in NY now serve their Biriani in a bowl with a pastry lid. Raita is pronounced Ry-ta,and Roti is Row-tea.
Hi Gary, I went to the same Canary Wharf restaurant last month. It is consistently very good but I did think it was about 20% too expensive even for CW. Agree the service is very strong.
Completely agree about staff. We interacted with 4 or 5 during our journey through the Edinburgh branch, and they were all very personable and attentive. It seemed a unique layout so worth a visit for that alone.
Great video as always Gary. Never been, but that is on my list for sure. As a but of an addict of cookbooks I do no have the "From Bombay with Love" - the first ever cookbook from Dishoom. It is a heavy hardback book, quality printing with lots of treats including the Okra Fries. Based on the cookbook alone the place should be amazing, and clearly you have tasted the evidence! Mark.
I've eaten here on numerous occasions because my Son lives and works on the wharf, never had a bad meal and the place comes into its own at night, yes, its a little on the dearer side for indian food, but look where you are ? the heart of the financial and banking district overlooked by some of the most expensive apartments and buildings in London, just imagine what rent and rates they must be paying for that location, Canary Wharf is fast becoming a "Go too" area for great food and a night / day out, must bare all that in mind, same goes for Soho, Hampstead, Clarkenwell, Borough Market etc etc ....... and as you say Gary, split that between two as there was more than enough for two at lunchtime, great review as always.
I am VERY impressed Gary(and yet another to add to my London dining list😅) when i next fly in🎉 Pricey- yes it is but those portions would be perfect for a meal for 2 people and a cost for 2 of £40 is acceptable in London( especially considering its £6 a pint in London) lovely review Gary your the best dining reviewer out their.
Great review Gary looked good for a chain.....even though high class....the Biriani looked good...price not bad considering you were in Canary Wharf and it was good service 🙂
I went down to London in november to visit my friend and we decided to try Dishoom. The food and service was absolutely oustanding from our experience, expensive yes but definitely worth going at least once. Great video Gary 👍
It looks really nice, Gary. Paying a higher price brings higher expectations with restaurants. Nice as it looks, you can't beat a good family run Indian restaurant. I'd recommend visiting Brunel Raj in Clifton, Bristol. There are so many different restaurants in Bristol, you could try all kinds of food. Keep up the good work. 👍
I wouldn't mind paying for that! Would you consider, putting the price of each dish on the screen when you do the final sum-up at the end? I have seen a lot of other channels do that and I think it brings value, but then again you're the boss
Went to the Manchester Dishoom for lunch yesterday on the back of this review and it was excellent! Really great spicing and presentation - and quite different from the typical Pakistani/Bangladeshi curry house fare. All the staff were delightful and the place itself is fun and quirky. Had three starters, 2 mains, rice, garlic naan and 4 beers and - with service - the bill was £100 for two. I know some might think that pricy but it just depends what value you put on quality, and if you see eating out as an experience rather than just filling your belly. Thanks again! p-s - it was packed on a cold, wet Tuesday lunchtime whilst all the restaurants around it were dead. Gotta tell you something eh?
Gosh, I am fascinated by your show and your eating review. Learning so much, and I don't even live in England !!!, USA here, wish i could visit many of the places u have been. Blessings sent!!! (P.s. that black shirt is quite stunning on you.)
Good honest review as usual Gary - and having eaten a couple of times in the Manchester branch completely agree with your comments and observations - not cheap but always reliable.
I love watching your visits to Indian restaurants because that is something we never see here in the Southern States. In fact, the last Indian meal I had was over 48 years ago when I left London and moved to the US.
Which State are you in? I know Indian restaurants are popping up all over now.Bangladeshi people are now in a lot of States, and where they go there are Indian restaurants.
if you are ever in Belfast try Nu-Dehli on Great Victoria Street, definately one of the best Indian Restaurants here, Your review has just put me in the mood for one right now lol, another brilliant review Gary thanks, Gav
The Okra looked amazing and if the price is on the steep side you can live with that once in a while as long as the food/experience is excellent, thanks Gary another Gem.
This one looked very nice. Bottom line is always food quality, you can hum and haw about the price but if the food is good you aren't getting ripped off. Good one.
Looked lovely Gary. I’ve only had Biryani a few times from take aways and once in a restaurant. The restaurant was the best Indian in Dublin a place called Pickle. The food was top drawer Indian food I’d highly recommend it. I had to book a table weeks in advance. Id give Dishroom a go ! based on your video 👍.
Went there for the office Christmas do and I wasn’t impressed but that might be because it was sharing plates and a lot more limited. The okra fries were the best thing about it for me, and the cocktails!
Yes pricey, but seemed worth it. It salivated my tastebuds just looking at it. I would probably have ended up with your choices too, always have okra in an Indian if available. I'd have gone with 8.5 too in this case, maybe a 9 without the service charge. On the other hand, Canary Wharf landlords charge extortionate rents, so perhaps justifiable this once!
Fabulous review Gary and certainly better than the Heathrow offerings! I'd be up for all of this... it's Indian food with a twist :) I couldn't imagine anything more delightful. Brilliant description too, as ever! Okra... wow; I usually have them cooked down, but this looks very special. Now I'm hungry (again) LOL. 9/10? £20 per head is fine for that quality IMHO. Massive portion really... so can't complain.
Very nice comment Steve thank you, I agree good value at £20.00 a head, food was excellent but not outstanding hence my thoughts, have a really great week
Another fantastic review and enjoyable video. You know I am not a fan of this type of food, but seeing you enjoy it was wonderful. My favourite part was at 01:06 reading the rules of the café, which I thought was funny
Gazza is the modern day AA Gill, instilling fear into every establishment when he walks through the door! 😂 Glad you liked it. Dishoom is amazing. Should have also ordered the black daal - that is amazing. Maybe try Gymkhana in Mayfair for a Michelin experience too? Their daal is lush, and the muntjac biryani is outstanding! In fact, anything on their menu is delish - just be prepared for a huge (but very worthwhile) bill at the end!
Hi thanks for another terrific video review; I’m a huge fan of Didhoom but you should’ve gone to the soho / Kingly St venue - it’s atmosphere is incomparable to the corporate vibe of Canary Wharf. Also you can venture down stairs and see the whole kitchen brigade at work include the hot plate , tandoor etc. Oh another thing iam thoroughly recommend their breakfast bacon naan. Keep up the good work and keep em coming! J
When we visit London we occasionally go for Breakfast, my husband has the Bacon in the Nan Bread and I have the sausage and Bacon on Nan Bread without the cream cheese it is brilliant with all the flavours, you should give that a go sometime 👍
Great revue as ever. If you eat with you're eyes then that Byriani was a million dollars. Price wise when takeing into consideration thats it's Canary Wharf then it seemed about right especially if you went as apair. 😀
Thank you Ian, it was very good especially when you consider it’s enough for two at £20.00 a head in the location, very very good but not exceptional 👍
Just opened in Brighton also Love it ,Also Opened a Take away in Crouch end all same great standard, I love that its not Floating in Gee and the Curries I have had are rich in flavor and no stringy chicken bits ,
Hi Gary. I’m just back from a 3 month tour of India. After having visited places the length and breadth of this amazing sub-continent I can report that the food isn’t remotely like that served in “Indian” restaurants in the UK (99% of which are Bangladeshi anyway!)
I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before Gary, because it’s so busy you have to book in advance for The Dishoom in Manchester, even for breakfast . Excellent 🤓👍
As always Gary, a fair honest review. I’ve been to Dishoom, once when it first opened in 2014 and once last year. Both times were for brunch; I’d recommend you try this. Unique twist on breakfast items and chai is free refills. IMO - if the biriyani didn’t come with complimentary raita then that’s a bit pricey. Good stuff!
An amazing place to take a friend or partner for lunch . Less then £20 each. Youur geting a decent size portion. Quality food How can you complain . A five star restaurant with great service with everything going up in the uk I think that’s very good value.
We've recently converted from naan to chapatti - much better for scooping. Another great video. I definitely feel inspired to make potato curry with whole new potatoes!
The issue with DISHOOM is the current price in contrast to quality. When Dishoom only had a few locations it was a much better experience, this even includes a few of the older locations. The more newer locations are boring inside. The quality across the Dishoom locations has totally gone down from what it used to be, and this is purely down to them expanding more than they needed to. Dishoom as a whole now is nothing better than a 6/10 and reviews for some of their outlets are really down the toilet
It’s very good as you guessed from my review but not the best, I would go back but my local is better for great food and value, we all have favourites 👍
Dishoom in King's Cross is inside a wonderfully converted former Victorian railway transit warehouse which used to serve the nearby Regent's Canal. Meanwhile, the queue outside the Covent Garden branch regularly grows so long that on cold nights staff often hand out free cups of Masala chai tea to waiting patrons - a very welcome touch! You really should've got their famous House Black Daal which is cooked for 24 hours to give the best flavour I've ever tasted! Oh well, try it next time!
As usual, another great review. Never had okra, but want to try it ! Biriani looked lovely! Going to make Hubby Joe firecracker potatoes tonight to go with his chicken dhansak! I’ve got to ‘give it a go’. Thanks Gary!!! More thought inducing recipes for me!
TBH I would not have not have marked it down on the price. You are in one of the most expensive areas of London and although you paid a premium price it looked and sounded like the service. food and overall experience matched the the price. So 9 out of 10 for me having not spent a penny of course!
You’re not far wrong however after eating on the channel in some top class Indian restaurants this was good without been outstanding but I do respect you’re opinion thank you 😊
Went to Dishoom when I was in Edinburgh and loved it. Thought the food was amazing (decent portions, great flavor, quality ingredients, food wasn't oily which can be a thing with a lot of Indian places), service was very good, professional but not stuffy. They're a well-oiled machine in terms of how they manage it all- at least at the Edinburgh one- because it is a very busy restaurant. I actually thought it was reasonably priced compared to a lot of other places in Edinburgh, still not a cheap meal, sure, but I didn't leave thinking it was overpriced.
As others have remarked, the Black Dahl is a definite must at Dishoom, it's great. At Christmas Dishoom do Tandoori Turkey Legs. At the risk of doing another London Indian, the Fatt Pundit in Covent Garden has a great street food twist on Indian food, with a bit of Chinese influence also
Gary, Dishoom I thought everything you chose looked fantastic! By looks I couldn't fault any of it, I love a good Indian!! Price, I don't think it's overpriced for the area at all, I've paid a lot more in Nottingham, I visited a couple there & they were the most expensive I've ever had. Your score was spot on! & So was the review, perfect!👏 All the very best! Cheers 🍻
As a side note our local Indian in Lowestoft had Jeff Stelling & Bianca Westwood visit last week (Sky sports?) & Jeff said "Now this is an Indian!! One of the best ever!" It is pretty decent to be fair, it's extremely popular with the local people as well as those on holiday.

That is very kind thank you very much 😊
I’ve never had okra but am now keen to try it. We stayed at Claridges last year. A mad splurge of cash! And we stepped round to breakfast twice at Dishoom and it was so relaxing, chill and tasty. Looking forward now to having dinner there. Thanks for another great video.
Give it a go Ian!
I hated okra in the US, but absolutely love Indian spiced okra. If you've tried it, hope you enjoyed it!
Thansk for the info
Love your food reviews Gary, always honest and interesting and you seem like a really decent chap too.
Very kind to say 😊
What a fabulous review! These upmarket places usually have food which isn’t too good but this was a delightful surprise. That roti looked so delicious. I would have loved to see you combine it with the potatoes by wrapping a piece round a piece of potato which is how it should be eaten.
Thank you very much Monica
Yummy..I love a Biryani(king prawn)..my local puts a very delicate lace omlette on top...(no idea how they make it look so beautiful)?..more for presentation but it works. Those gunpowder potatoes looked yummy too. Ty for sharing sharing Gary🎉
You’re welcome thank you 😊
That sounds like a South Indian style restaurant) ... they use a lot more egg in dishes, & often do what you described.
Yet another cracking video review👍🏾, it all looked so scrumptious
Thank you John 👍
Gary can’t believe you were in Bristol a few weeks ago and didn’t try urban tandoor Indian small street best curry you’ll ever have. Let’s give it ago.
I’m back in Bristol this week I will have a look if I get time 👍
Urban Tandoor is bang average imo…. I couldn’t give a monkeys how many awards they’ve got it ain’t for me 😆
@@si-mike5398 each to there own opinion fair shout 👍
Urban is well below par
@@Etihadnev I’m still trying to find my fav curry in Bristol…
Nice review Gary , as always I am now addicted to your reviews , Get yourself to India and experience real Indian food , start in the North , Punjab and then head to the South, you will experience a completely different style of food , just focus on street food , you will love it ! Keep it up , nice review !
I will when I get time thank you, really appreciate you watching and commenting 👍
Everyone's new dream job: operating the camera for Gary, just to hang out with such a warm person and off-camera enthuse about good food. Great review as always! Good luck with building the spice tolerance!
That is lovely to say thank you 😊 I’m sure the challenge will go wrong in fact I know it will 😞😞
Mate you've earned a sub today, you're just so engaging, humble and hands down the best food reviewer on YT. Keep up the good work mate!
Much appreciated! Thanks so much
I thought that wasn't overly expensive, like you said gary, there was plenty there for two, looked great! as always a fair review, look forward to the next one.
Thank you
Hi Gary and Mr Cameraman.
Chris.
I think you're right as well regarding the lamb, Chris but I've had it a lot recently so fancied a change.
Take care mate!
As of your indian cuisine videos you have covered this looks the best.Thank you for your video.
It was very good but definitely not the best 👍
Interesting video and an unusual choice of meal. I've never had a biryani without a side dish of sauce of choice, usually vindaloo. I've checked the online menu and noticed that there too beef is not available. I've yet to hear a realistic reason as to why in 95% of Indian restaurants beef has been removed from menus. Keep up the good work, it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it! 🙂
No idea and thank you for your comment 👍
You are the best. You should go to the Happy Lamb. Love it. You need to share it with your lovely cameraman,
Thank you Victoria very kind and I will take a look x
I fully agree prices are rising almost to silly levels
Whilst I have not been to Dishoom, it looks way better than the majority of restaurants on Brick Lane whose food is anything but authentic and expensive.
Gary the price is not to bad as for London for different areas of London . As i thought that was cheap for Canary Wharf as seen other people eat in that area for different food they paid more for it than you would somewhere else for the same food . But that food looked out of this world when they put it on the table . For the Birry that is the proper way it is served meat always on the bottom and rice on the top .
It wasn’t cheap but you’re right it isn’t a cheap area to eat, food was very good but not outstanding 👍
I like your analysis at the end. you seem to be genuine & unbiased. excellent review.
That is very kind thank you 😊
The best food reviews are gary eats love the places you go and so honest
Very kind to say Julie thank you 😊
As one of the other posts says, it wouldn't be what I would order, but have to admit Gary, that looked Fantastico, particularly the Biryani. I don't think the price was excessive and looked like decent sized portions. I will certainly put the Dishroom on my look out list when I travel the highways and byways of the UK!!!
Many thanks David it is worth a visit
Hi, Mr Gary, hope you are well my friend. As soon as I saw Dishoom I knew you would like it! These chain restaurants always have the best biryanis. But when it's the common curry houses, it has to be onion bhaji, meat samosa, lamb madras, Bombay potatoes, garlic keema nan, and boiled rice! 😋👍💯🌟💚
Believe it or not that is exactly what I’m having tonight, blimey that’s scary 😳😳🤣
@@GaryEats . I know because I was the guy who took your order! Lol 😆 (Only joking, my friend!). See you on the next one, or should I say, LET'S GIVE IT A GO! Lol 😆
You’re making me hungry. 😊
@@columbus7950 . Go for it, my friend. It's Saturday night, so treat yourself if you can.👍💯🌟💚
Today we had lunch in the Carnaby Dishoom restaurant and ordered the same dishes that you had in your video.
Thank you that is very kind and I’m really pleased you had a great time 👍👍
I'm glad you knocked a point off for the price Gary, it did look stunning but that's half a days wage for many people, great review mate.
It's in London, thats only a couple of hours wages... I can vouch 😊
@@daystate123not sure if serious...
@@rundattmedia2106average hourly wage in London in 2023 was £22.15 an hour
Thanks Matt. Yes, very pricy!
It's not just the food that good, the whole interior aesthetic, staff etc. We love the breakfasts, a real treat
I agree with you Nicholas is a very good restaurant
C'mon, Gary, you're a foodie...it's pronounced: "Roe-tee", not "Rotty", lol. But loved this, great review again, matey, thank you so much! 😊
I never said I was good with pronunciations 🤣
Grammar police 😅😅
Excellent review as always, Gary. As much as I love Dishoom, I agree that it’s slightly pricey for what it is. If you ever return to Dishoom, I can vouch for the lamb chops and the chicken ruby curry. Both moreish (as is everything on the menu). It would be great if you could visit Lahpet (Burmese) or Casa do Frango (Portuguese).
Thanks very much David - I'll take a look
I’ve got my “Lets give it a go” T-shirt on for this one. Gary, I don’t know how you arranged it, but I got mine all the way in Canada in just 4 days and there was no customs paperwork/fees for me to deal with.
I should have guessed your merch would be brilliant 👍
Wow that’s amazing you got it so quickly in Canada 🇨🇦 Jean and thank very much 😊x
Really appreciate your kind words and I'm glad I get to read your longer comments again. Enjoy your Sunday!
Their murg malai chicken is great and prawn kaliwada
You should review chai ki which is also in Canary Wharf.
Thank you good recommendations 👍
Another great review, Gary. I was always a bit sceptical about Dishoom; worried that it might be yet another example of what I see so much of in London right now: namely a trendy and expensive take on what's generally seen as good honest comfort food. The price is indeed high but not outrageously so, when you take into consideration the apparent quality of the food, service and overall experience.
Thank you Walter, it was a little pricy but overall very good 😊
You can pay similar prices on brick lane for very average food, that all looked fantastic.
Thank you Glyn, you’re wife and children for watching it’s really appreciated and a very nice comment 👍
Thanks for all the information Janet really appreciated
Hi Gary, I went to the same Canary Wharf restaurant last month. It is consistently very good but I did think it was about 20% too expensive even for CW. Agree the service is very strong.
Completely agree with you Harry
Completely agree about staff. We interacted with 4 or 5 during our journey through the Edinburgh branch, and they were all very personable and attentive.
It seemed a unique layout so worth a visit for that alone.
I agree you completely. The staff are superb.
Thanks for another great video...
did I hear you mention a phall challenge?
Coming soon Frank 😳
Anyone doing a phal challenge will need plenty of riata and yoghurt on standby!
Mark.
So good to hear Mark, you’ll have to cook for me one day mate 😊
Great review as always Gary!
Thank you kindly
Thank you and a lovely comment!
Eating out in such fine restaurants...
We're not envious.
It's a tough job Gary, someone's got to do it. So keep 'em coming!
Haha thank you, they're not all great
I am VERY impressed Gary(and yet another to add to my London dining list😅) when i next fly in🎉
Pricey- yes it is but those portions would be perfect for a meal for 2 people and a cost for 2 of £40 is acceptable in London( especially considering its £6 a pint in London) lovely review Gary your the best dining reviewer out their.
I agree with that and even adding another side dish to make sure it was enough for 2 people would still only be 23/24 pound each for a tremendous meal
Glad you liked the look of it Geoffrey!
Best channel on YT!
Thank you very much 👍
Great review Gary looked good for a chain.....even though high class....the Biriani looked good...price not bad considering you were in Canary Wharf and it was good service 🙂
Excellent service Graham and a good Indian 😊
I went down to London in november to visit my friend and we decided to try Dishoom. The food and service was absolutely oustanding from our experience, expensive yes but definitely worth going at least once. Great video Gary 👍
Thank you Jack I have to agree, the service was outstanding
It looks really nice, Gary. Paying a higher price brings higher expectations with restaurants. Nice as it looks, you can't beat a good family run Indian restaurant. I'd recommend visiting Brunel Raj in Clifton, Bristol. There are so many different restaurants in Bristol, you could try all kinds of food. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you Joel and I think you’re completely right 👍
gary how about u cooking us a meal in your own kitchen???
I will one day 👌
I wouldn't mind paying for that! Would you consider, putting the price of each dish on the screen when you do the final sum-up at the end? I have seen a lot of other channels do that and I think it brings value, but then again you're the boss
No problem 😉
Ur gonna need the gym after all these reviews lol
Definitely 😳
That’s so good to hear and it’s a very popular restaurant chain for sure
Gosh, I am fascinated by your show and your eating review. Learning so much, and I don't even live in England !!!, USA here, wish i could visit many of the places u have been. Blessings sent!!! (P.s. that black shirt is quite stunning on you.)
That is very kind to say, Linda thank you very much as always 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good honest review as usual Gary - and having eaten a couple of times in the Manchester branch completely agree with your comments and observations - not cheap but always reliable.
Thank you John 👍
I love watching your visits to Indian restaurants because that is something we never see here in the Southern States. In fact, the last Indian meal I had was over 48 years ago when I left London and moved to the US.
Which State are you in? I know Indian restaurants are popping up all over now.Bangladeshi people are now in a lot of States, and where they go there are Indian restaurants.
Thank you especially all the way from America 🇺🇸
Anyone who goes to Dishoom over Lahore Kebab House is mad. Lahore vs Tayyabs is a good idea
A Lahore vs Tayyabs review would be great, especially comparing their lamb chops.
On the list 😄
Made my day!
Man, the chops. Then I love the Nihari!
if you are ever in Belfast try Nu-Dehli on Great Victoria Street, definately one of the best Indian Restaurants here, Your review has just put me in the mood for one right now lol, another brilliant review Gary thanks, Gav
Cheers Gav when I’m over I’ll take a look mate
The Okra looked amazing and if the price is on the steep side you can live with that once in a while as long as the food/experience is excellent, thanks Gary another Gem.
You’re very welcome 😉
This one looked very nice. Bottom line is always food quality, you can hum and haw about the price but if the food is good you aren't getting ripped off. Good one.
Thank you 😊
Looked lovely Gary.
Thank you Kian 👍
Went there for the office Christmas do and I wasn’t impressed but that might be because it was sharing plates and a lot more limited. The okra fries were the best thing about it for me, and the cocktails!
That's fair enough
Yes pricey, but seemed worth it. It salivated my tastebuds just looking at it. I would probably have ended up with your choices too, always have okra in an Indian if available. I'd have gone with 8.5 too in this case, maybe a 9 without the service charge. On the other hand, Canary Wharf landlords charge extortionate rents, so perhaps justifiable this once!
That’s a really good point about rents in primary locations
Nailed it. I think the prices are the same across London!
All the food looked amazing, thank you Gary for the review and well done Dishoom 👏 as for the ‘bread’ choice my go to is Chapatti’s 👍
Good choice and thank you 😊
Fabulous review Gary and certainly better than the Heathrow offerings!
Haha thanks Gary. Appreciate it as always!
Gazza is the modern day AA Gill, instilling fear into every establishment when he walks through the door! 😂
Glad you liked it.
Haha, that made me laugh out loud. I've heard of Gymkhana and I will do my best to give it a go
Hi thanks for another terrific video review; I’m a huge fan of Didhoom but you should’ve gone to the soho / Kingly St venue - it’s atmosphere is incomparable to the corporate vibe of Canary Wharf. Also you can venture down stairs and see the whole kitchen brigade at work include the hot plate , tandoor etc. Oh another thing iam thoroughly recommend their breakfast bacon naan. Keep up the good work and keep em coming! J
Very kind Jamie a breakfast will come soon mate 👍
When we visit London we occasionally go for Breakfast, my husband has the Bacon in the Nan Bread and I have the sausage and Bacon on Nan Bread without the cream cheese it is brilliant with all the flavours, you should give that a go sometime 👍
I will definitely
Great revue as ever. If you eat with you're eyes then that Byriani was a million dollars. Price wise when takeing into consideration thats it's Canary Wharf then it seemed about right especially if you went as apair. 😀
Thank you Ian, it was very good especially when you consider it’s enough for two at £20.00 a head in the location, very very good but not exceptional 👍
Just opened in Brighton also Love it ,Also Opened a Take away in Crouch end all same great standard, I love that its not Floating in Gee and the Curries I have had are rich in flavor and no stringy chicken bits ,
I didn’t know that Karen thank you 😊

Hi Gary. I’m just back from a 3 month tour of India. After having visited places the length and breadth of this amazing sub-continent I can report that the food isn’t remotely like that served in “Indian” restaurants in the UK (99% of which are Bangladeshi anyway!)
I can relate to that completely
@@GaryEats but hey, hats off to all of those lovely BIRs the length and breadth of this country! Where on earth would we be without them? 🤗
I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before Gary, because it’s so busy you have to book in advance for The Dishoom in Manchester, even for breakfast .
Excellent 🤓👍
Wow, didn't think you had to wait that long!

Good stuff!
Thank you really appreciated
An amazing place to take a friend or partner for lunch . Less then £20 each. Youur geting a decent size portion. Quality food How can you complain . A five star restaurant with great service with everything going up in the uk I think that’s very good value.
You’re correct Chris it’s very very good not excellent and for the money good value 👍
We've recently converted from naan to chapatti - much better for scooping.
Another great video. I definitely feel inspired to make potato curry with whole new potatoes!
Thank you!!
I guess it’s what you experience at each restaurant when you visit as it can all differ, my meal was pricy but very good without been exceptional
Glad you got to try it out. Yes it is pricey but personally I feel for the quality of the food and service, its worth it.
I will do, had many comments saying the same!
Please do give Okra a go
Back on point! Awesome mate!
Good hair btw!
Nightmare in the wet!!
That meal looked wicked. I'm envious, what a choice. Try roti for an Indian dessert - smother with golden syrup. Yum....
It was very good Peter 👍
Very good to hear Liam I do agree a little pricey
As others have remarked, the Black Dahl is a definite must at Dishoom, it's great. At Christmas Dishoom do Tandoori Turkey Legs. At the risk of doing another London Indian, the Fatt Pundit in Covent Garden has a great street food twist on Indian food, with a bit of Chinese influence also
I'll give it a go Russ. Cheers mate
Looks great Gary. I’m going to give it a go.
I hope you enjoy Pete
Gary,
Dishoom
I thought everything you chose looked fantastic! By looks I couldn't fault any of it, I love a good Indian!!
Price, I don't think it's overpriced for the area at all, I've paid a lot more in Nottingham, I visited a couple there & they were the most expensive I've ever had.
Your score was spot on! & So was the review, perfect!👏
All the very best!
Cheers 🍻
As a side note our local Indian in Lowestoft had Jeff Stelling & Bianca Westwood visit last week (Sky sports?) & Jeff said "Now this is an Indian!! One of the best ever!"
It is pretty decent to be fair, it's extremely popular with the local people as well as those on holiday.
Cheers Tel - thank you mate 👍🏼
Need to start going down your way soon
