    You can make a color selection in CaptureOne and use that selection as a mask

      Exactly, this, among other things, is going to be a subject for another video I am planning to make

    When someone asks me to explain the differences between Lightroom and C1 now I can send him your video instead of making the effort to do the explanation myself :-) very nice video.
    Since I started using C1 I never looked back.

    Hi Hamed, great comparison video, really liked the way you went through all the 5 main selling points of each, and the loyalty reward program for C1, I am just starting my photo editing journey, and you really helped me decide. Look forward to more tips & techniques videos from you, plus maybe showing us more on editing in general, and the way you would start as a beginner compared to using the more advanced tools/methods.

      Thank you for watching this video and for kind words. That is a good idea. I have some ideas for future videos about editing techniques as well as actual photography in the field. I will take your suggestions into the account. Cheers,

    CaptureOne has one massive advantage over Lightroom: Luma curve. For Levels, I think Lr has the equivalent functionality with direct white point / black point setting…..

      @hbphotos  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment! I agree and disagree. Levels are not quite the same as white and black points in LR, I am making a video about level. I will explain it there.

    Hi great video. As you ask about future content
    for capture one please it will be highly apreciated videos about levels and advanced masking. By the way, I like your clarity and pace for comunicating and sharing knowledge. Finally the links you mentión those do not appear in the description. All the best. Alberto

      Hi Merlin, thank you for watching this video and for your kind comment. Sure thing, I will make the requested video/s soon. Right now I am on photo trip to Lofoten. Next couple of weeks' videos will be about that. But shortly after I can make those videos.
      Sorry about the links, I will fix that when I'm back home. Thank you for mentioning.

    While LR doesn't have a tool specifically called layers, that is effectively what the masks are. The only tool you can't use with LR masks is the colour grading tool - all the other RAW editing tools are in there. They even work the same was as C1 since any adjustments on a new layer in C1 are not visible until you apply a mask. In terms of levels, you can click and drag within the histogram in the Develop module of LR for similar results. You can also finesse LR masks using luminance or colour. And of course all of this can be saved as an adaptive preset and applied to other images without having to remake the mask every time, because it leverages the AI masking tool.

      Lightroom masks and Capture one layers are not exactly the same, but they are getting closer and closer to each other by any new update. Please remember at the time I recorded this video, Lightroom even didn't have the Curve tool included in masks and I think they also added the amount slider for masks a little bit after the release of this video ( I am not 100% sure though) . Anyway, thank you for the comment!

    Hamed, Great comparison - I am not sure that C One will be free. I just got the 40% off email if I move from perm lic to subscription. It might be 40% off in 1st year, but I think back to normal price in second year.

      Hey Stuart! Thank you for your kind words and for watching this video.
      To answer your question, I'm gonna copy the part of the email Capture One sent out on Jan 18th. here it goes:
      " *From February 14, we’re giving you 20% off the cost of a perpetual license for Capture One Pro for each year you’ve been a subscriber. Yes, that means after 5 years on a subscription, you can get it for free* ."
      Hope this helps.

  • @telkirton
    @telkirton Рік тому +2

    The one reason I moved back to Lightroom was Capture One's monthly subscription is too expensive.

    • @hbphotos
      @hbphotos  Рік тому +1

      yes, even the annual subscription is more expensive compared to LR. With the new loyalty program, it will change.

    • @HR-wd6cw
      @HR-wd6cw Рік тому +1

      @@hbphotos I'm not sure that that is necessarily going to make it cheaper though. From what I've been reading, they're sort of forcing people to subscribe because for example, even in the loyalty program, people are saying that if you go more than 2 years without upgrading, you'll have to pay another $300 when do you want to upgrade. Not to mention even if you do buy the perpetual $300 license, you will not get any feature updates, even for the same major version relase that you bought, which seems a bit odd for me. They could at least give users who buy say CaptureOne 23, all updates for 23, but when 24 comes out, they obviousy wouldn't get those updates since it's a perpetual license (sort of like how most other companies do it -- you get feature updates for the same major release/version only). In the end, I think Adobe may benefit a bit from CaptureONe's decision though. The only good thing about captureOne is they do still (for now) offer a perpetual license though, and Adobe doesn't. ,BUT perhaps Adobe will follow suit in some respects and perhaps allow people to "buy" Lightroom Classic on a perpetual license without updates for say $300 when they want to end their subscription (sort of what C1 is doing now).

      @hbphotos  Рік тому

      @@HR-wd6cw it seems that you are right. If that is the case, it won't make it any cheaper. At least not by much. The way they described this, is not too clear and I must wait and see if I get any discount this year or not. And then I will share the new info on YT.

    I was excited to try the diffraction correction, but noticed some halos that it created. That was a disappointment.

      Well, it is a post-processing trick anyway. But I have never had a major issue with it. It works 90% off the times

    Capture One -- the best tethering solution around AND the best skin Tones - LRC - terrible tethering and nothing special when considering skin tones.
    LRC -- the best file management and AI Masking tools bar none - C1 - old school masking tools AND terrible file management
    LRC/ACR - truly TERRIBLE RAW processing of New sensors, particularly the Nikon Z9, for multiple YEARS
    CaptureOne -- simply not good with Hasselblad, nor will it ever be great (these are competitors)

    • @hbphotos
      @hbphotos  Рік тому

      You summarized it.

    • @HR-wd6cw
      @HR-wd6cw Рік тому +1

      IDK about the issue you're referring to with sensor support. All the cameras I've owned have worked fine with Lightroom. Fuji is perhaps the only exception, but in more recent versions of LR, their "worming" issue has been mostly resolved (still there, but not as bad as it used to be). My Nikon files work fine in LR and edit fine. I do agree that tethering is a joke in Lightroom, not even close to what C1 offers in terms of features, but I think it does make up for it in many other ways.

    • @hbphotos
      @hbphotos  Рік тому

      @@HR-wd6cw Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Good to know that Lightroom resolves the "worming" effect on Fuji files. I only use it for cataloging my photos and not much for editing, thus I turned off sharpening and noise reduction in LR.
      I should stress here that, this video is merely a comparison between the two software and not to convince anyone that one is better than the other. Even though I do have a preference myself.
