I was playing ELDEN RING on my laptop, after i defeated a boss, suddenly the audio started cutting and the game was stuttering for about 3 mins then my laptop crashed and i got the blue screen. After my laptop turned on, none of my apps where opening which were installed in D:\ Drive(hdd). Some apps would make my laptop crash and show the blue screen. My videos and pictures were taking time to open up, some became corrupted. Slowly, other files were getting corrupted too as i was opening them. I uploaded most of my files in google drive then formatted the disk. After that, everything seemed to be normal. I started downloading my games back but when i launched my games, it would stutter very hard and then it crashes. I wasn't quite sure why. After 2 days, i turned on my laptop and tried launching 'STEAM' but it showed that the file was missing, i tried to check the file location but it took me to a shortcut in my SSD. I then clicked on 'THIS PC' and saw that my D: drive was missing. On the quick access menu, my d drive was showing up but with a question mark on its symbol. Which i cannot click. In 'Computer Management', it shows ''DISK 0, UNKNOWN, NOT INITIALIZED'' it doesn't show up the space available, i tried ''Initialize Disk'' but showed me an I/O device error. AOMEI shows DISK 0 as ''UNKNOWN, DISK UNREADABLE'' I've gone through about 20 vids to find for a solution but nothing worked. If you change the drive letter of a drive where Windows or apps are installed, apps might have trouble running or finding that drive. For this reason, we suggest that you don't change the drive letter of a drive on which Windows or apps are installed. Or make a reinstallation, if you still have to change this drive letter.

I think I have a worse problem. I was playing a game and suddenly my computer just shut off. I smelled a weird burning smell coming out of my vents and I thought my whole computer died. I was able to turn it back on and it booted up just fine but then I noticed a bunch of blank icons on my desktop. I opened up This PC and where drive D should have been there was a box that says CD-ROM instead. Disk Management shows no drive D and system restore did nothing. I'm assuming that my drive D just died on me.

There is a feature called "Partition Recovery Wizard" it's a paid feature, it may help you but if your partition's table has been removed already or you have deleted the partition, you cannot get it back.

If there is no data on the volume or you do not need any of the data on the volume, the question can be fixed simply. Just right-click the volume, select Delete Volume, and then, right-click it and create a new simple volume, and then, you will be able to change the drive letter. Or you can just use AOMEI Partition Assistant to change the drive letter without limitations.

Can someone help me? I reset my windows for personal reasons and when I check my disk, I can't find my d drive anywhere (Disk Management only has (C:) and Disk 0 partition 1, system properties doesn't have system restore option available and finally AOMEI app only seen Disk 0 which C: Drive and Disk 1 which unreadable and when I click it the app crashes) I tried all your methods but none has come close into retrieving my D drive, at this point i don't care about the files I lost, I just want my 900gb D drive back :(

disk 2? If the drive didn't show up, there's little chance to bring it back, but you still can try to find a data recovery tool to see if you can bring your data back.

Still not back... I really feel stuck lol. Windows just decided it was gonna scan my drives and now its gone. I can still see it in the UEFI BIOS but I can't access it.

You can try to recover the partition with tools but almost all of them are paid tools on the market. If you still find it helpless please go to a repair shop locally and ask if they could help.
Bro I got the d drive back but all the data is gone and backup is quite old , most probably because some drivers are not able to install . Is there any way to restore the data

You can use "Fast Search" if no result then try "Full Search" and wait for it patiently.

Can someone help me? I reset my windows for personal reasons and when I check my disk, I can't find my d drive anywhere (Disk Management only has (C:) and Disk 0 partition 1, system properties doesn't have system restore option available and finally AOMEI app only seen Disk 0 which C: Drive and Disk 1 which unreadable and when I click it the app crashes)
I tried all your methods but none has come close into retrieving my D drive, at this point i don't care about the files I lost, I just want my 900gb D drive back :(

@@andrejpehcevski found out the problem and unfortunately the disk couldn't be fixed :( The disk got allocated hence why it wasn't showing up

When I tried to put files in that hard drive my pc would just freeze and crash

Sometimes it will get back after restart or reconnect your disk but if you choose to update without keeping your original data it might be gone.

trying out the aomei method cuz the system restore ddnt work. my d drive went missing because of a trojan virus thats in it i think windows just chose to wipe out my d drive but i hope i can restore it even with no data ill be happy

disk 2? If the drive didn't show up, there's little chance to bring it back, but you still can try to find a data recovery tool to see if you can bring your data back.

I don't know where my d drive is my C drive is still there it has 117 gb of space and my D drive has way more 500GB or More by accident I spelled water on my laptop everything works fine it's just my d drive is gone I tried to scan files nothing came out
If your partition table and boot sector of the select disk were removed, there is no chance to recover deleted partition. If you delete all partitions on the disk, you cannot get it back either. If you didn't do any of the operations mentioned above, it will sometimes get back after reconnecting your drive or restarting or it just get back for no reason.
Still not back... I really feel stuck lol. Windows just decided it was gonna scan my drives and now its gone. I can still see it in the UEFI BIOS but I can't access it.
If you did not delete the partition on the drive, it can still get back after restarting or reconnecting the drive, at least some users said their drive comes back somehow finally.
