It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. I plan to retire at 62 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life. Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible.

The reason the magic number is 4 is not only would that rebalance the court but in the past there has been one Supreme Court Justice to oversea each Federal circuit, of which there are 13, nine plus four. As the Supreme Court is so fond of saying, it is in the "history and tradition" of the United States - and I hope she throws that back in their faces when she does it.
One way to get around them is to define good behavior with a simple bill. The constitutional provision protecting them says that they shall serve as long as they are in good behavior. So if we define good behavior as not taking bribes as not having conflicts of interest as not serving more than 18 years, then that's all it would take.
If you amend the Constitution, then it becomes Constitutional. That's how our Constitution works. And while they're doing that, they can amend #2 as well.
Term limit is secondary. If at the outset they are partisan like Clarence, Alito and others, to the point of heralding a king with no culpability - not a president as we know it - this is the primary problem.
The fact that the senators has to pass the amendment is probably the reason that it hasn't been done. Of course the Republicans are not going to pass the proposals. This does highlight where the Republicans stand in the eyes of the public though. Doesn't look good.

The reason the magic number is 4 is not only would that rebalance the court but in the past there has been one Supreme Court Justice to oversea each Federal circuit, of which there are 13, nine plus four.
As the Supreme Court is so fond of saying, it is in the "history and tradition" of the United States - and I hope she throws that back in their faces when she does it.
Yes, one justice for each Federal circuit makes sense.
One way to get around them is to define good behavior with a simple bill. The constitutional provision protecting them says that they shall serve as long as they are in good behavior. So if we define good behavior as not taking bribes as not having conflicts of interest as not serving more than 18 years, then that's all it would take.

The fact that the senators has to pass the amendment is probably the reason that it hasn't been done. Of course the Republicans are not going to pass the proposals. This does highlight where the Republicans stand in the eyes of the public though. Doesn't look good.

( 33 years ) & Justice Alito took his seat on January 31, 2006, ( 19 years in 2025 ).

Immediate passage of term limits. Remove Alito and Thomas, prosecute Thomas for tax evasion, have him impeached and jailed. Remove Roberts as chief Justice, expand the court to 13 Justices.
Something has to be done. Another thirty or so years of a sickened Supreme Court isn’t really an option is it.
Never thought the SCOUS would stoop so low but we are here. We need to set hard guidelines for judicial conduct . . . just like any other judge.
