    Hey, Tom
    I'm a very new teen type 1 diabetic (less than 2 weeks) and I was really grateful to stumble upon your channel full of great diabetes information. When I was trying to learn as much information as I could about different cgms, good diabetic foods, and overall diabetes care in those first few scary days, I found myself coming back to your channel more often than any other. Out of all the channels on UA-cam, only your videos were able to both bring me entertainment while simultaneously educating me on a large range of diabetes topics that I am still very curious and excited to learn about. They all manage to keep my attention and give me loads of much needed info about my condition. Glad to have them in my arsenal!
    I've learned so much about both myself and diabetes over the past 12 days and I'm glad to have your videos to look forward to. Can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work!

      Great video. Our daughter is type 1 for 10weeks only. We are waiting for insurance coverage for G6 and pump access here in Canada.
      We have been using a Libre 3 for 7 weeks now. Being on MDI the Libre 3 is excellent. For pump integration the G6 will be our choice.
      Have you tried to extend the Libre 3 life from 14 to 28days?

    Tom, thanks for your super informational videos. I so appreciate your review (All your videos.) of the Libre 3 and Dexcom 6. My brother and I are in a war as to which is better! Your tie settled it for us. Neither of us are on the pump. I've been a diabetic for 42 years. I started back when you used what looked like a razor blade to "prick" your finger. (Honestly, I passed out a few times because it cut just too deep and opened a gash that bled for hours.) Again, Tom, thanks for all you are doing for the diabetic community.

    Hi Tom, ( August 11, 2023 )
    Thanks for video, first time I looked for and watched a Diabetes related video. I was looking for accuracy information between Dexcom G6 & Libre 2, Thanks for sharing your discoveries.
    Been Type 1 diabetic since October of 1967, yup 56 years. Still have all my body parts, mild case with Epiretinal membranes, but no surgery required. Used Medtronic Pumps since 1998, disappointed with their Guardian 3 CGM sensor, switched to Tandem t:slim X2 pump and Dexcom G6 sensor, dramatic improvement in sensor accuracy with G6.
    Thanks, Chuck

    Hi Tom. I am a huge FSL2 fan, but now on my 2nd g6 sensor after switching over for closed-loop benefits. I loved this video and agree with all you had to say. Re cost, my health insurance covered the sensors but for some reason doesn't cover any cgm. So despite really loving FSL2 and eagerly awaiting FSL3, I will likely stay with g6. The high cost remains an issue for both, but the closed-loop w control IQ is worth all the negatives. I definitely give you a super thanks, but can't find the feature, so you'll just have to take my written word for it. ;)

    Another excellent video, as always! I'm 55 and my mother (who lives with me in my house) is 82. She and I are both Type 2 diabetics on insulin. We both take multiple daily insulin injections. I have been using the older Freestyle Libre 14-day (predecessor of the Libre 2) for about 3 years. Mom started using the Dexcom G6 about a month ago. I change her sensors and give her insulin, so I'm getting experience with her G6.
    As usual, I echo all of your observations. Spot on. I completely agree. Great video!

    Being using the Libre 2 sensor for a while and Endo is suggesting to go down the insulin pump route. I have never had in 30 years an issue with injections and I am quite blasaie about them but wonder if pumps really are that much better paired with CGM?

    As usual, great video. I think you'd agree that comparing glucose meter finger stick readings to the CGM for accuracy can be a mistake in the sense that there is no "standard" for accuracy for glucose meters. Depending on the brand of meter, your readings can be off as much as +/- 20% compared to a venous blood draw (the gold standard test) vs what you showed as around 9% for both CGMs. Yor can have 3 different BG readings between your finger, toe and leg for example. As you mentioned, blood levels vs interstitial fluid is delayed and can give a difference of accuracy too.
    Reportedly the trend of blood sugar levels is more important than the spot check of a blood sugar number. Since our BG levels change continuously during a 24 hr. period, neither the CGM or glucose finger stick methods are that perfect for sure, but to me, it's kind of a trade off between convenience as ease of use between all of them, especially for reading while you sleep at night.
    I found where you had addressed this in a previous video in 2020. So for those who didn't see than one, I'm just reiterating what he said then I guess.

    Hey, i'm new here! you bring up some really good points during this video.
    I absolutely love the 'dark mode' option with the Freestlye Libre 3 app, I use dark mode on nearly all my devices if it's available. I still wish Abbott would make one app for all generations of the Libre though, the fact that you still have to download a completely different app feels a bit out-dated to me and I do wonder what the reasons are for this. I use the Libre 2, and had been using the Libre for 3 years now and it's great to see some of the improvements made, though I feel that some things they are lacking behind on that should be available.

    Hey Tom,
    Just recently found your channel, and I want to say a major thank you for everything you do! I do have a question about the difference between these 2 models that I don't think you covered. could you potentially elaborate on the needle size difference between each. I know you mentioned you don't feel either one, but the Libre 3 needle looks like it's waaaay thicker/bigger than the g6. Would love some feed back on that if possible. Thank you again Tom!

    • @jocharbonneau2797
      @jocharbonneau2797 2 роки тому

      The “needle” in my Libre 2 is like a soft piece of plastic even though it is a needle. I rarely feel it when installing my sensor. I like the fact that I only need a new sensor twice a month instead of 3 and I can peel off the old one in about 2 seconds with no pain. I use alcohol to remove the excess glue. Since it tests your bs every 60 seconds and alarms if high or low, I love it.

      @@ahmedpatel3728 well we get it by eating more carbs then our gut and body can possibly manage and that causes overspill that leads to lipid build up that creat fat on the pancreas and liver so they can’t communicate with each other as they must. Then our cells get a thick skin and refuse new glucose because it already has to much to deal with. So best thing to do is go to basics. No refined sugars or anything made in a factory. No drinks that are made sweet including juice and sodas regardless of what sweetener is used. Go as far back as hunter gatherers eating maybe 60 carbs a day and if they were lucky two times a day. 2 MAD make sure all carbs eaten are dressed and presented with a fat and a protein to slow absorption in the gut. Thanks for your video series. It is great. I am a bit of an outlier when it comes to accuracy. I started with the Libre 2 and it was so inaccurate as to be useless. Too high and too low by 30 or 40 percent. The Dexcom is generally pretty accurate for me, with problems in the first 24 hours. Here is how I've learned to deal with the first 24 hours with dexcom. 1) I put it on at night at least two hours after my last meal and last exercise or exertion of the day. I calibrate it before I go to sleep. I calibrate it again when I rise in the morning. After that I calibrate my Dexcom once every 24 hours, not necessarily at the same time, but just picking a time far enough away from any food consumption or exertion that my blood sugar has been steady for at least an hour before I calibrate and will remain so for at least an hour afterwords. i work out a lot and have an irregular schedule so I have to watch for such windows. I found that even using third party apps to calibrate the Libre, it is never acccurate enough to do me much good. Again I am an outlier. I have diabetic friends who use the Libre an find it accurate enough. But my case is a good reminder that diabetes is a very individual disease, and where there is only a small difference in accuracy between the Libre and Dexcom for some people, there may be a huge difference for others. BTW having a good CGM has made a huge difference for me in losing weight cause I have been able to cut my food consumption to something reasonable without running into constant blood sugar crashes.

    Is the libre 3 available now for purchase now through RX? My doctor recently changed me over from the libre 14 day system to the Dexcom G6. They never mentioned that there was a libre 3 option which confuses me now after watching this. When I was on the phone with Dexcom to get it all set up they mentioned there’s about to be a G7 version release coming out soon but didn’t say when. I would like to stay with the libre if I can but I will have to just ask my endocrinologist if it’s available to me or not. If anyone knows please let me know below. Thanks again for doing these videos they are absolutely priceless to someone who is new to changing over to systems. I agree the Dexcom seems a little bit more complicated and a lot of plastic and waste no bigger than what the product was but I was also surprised how big Dexcom is compared to what the Libre is now. Maybe the G7 version that they’re about to release will be much smaller.

    My concern is if I place it on my arm or chest... how would this effect my weight lifting which require a lot of muscle tensing.. would the tiny needle be effecting the muscle fibre or tearing from the exertion of carrying weights.. if it is a thick layer of fat, that is not an issue but if you have less of fats layer from skin to muscle, I am wondering how this will effect the needle that is in your arm. Anyone who lift weights has any idea?

    Thank you for the information you give each video. The thing I hate the most about having diabetes is the diet. Since I was diagnosed a year ago eating has become just another task in the day. I get no enjoyment out of it. I used to love cooking and baking, but now everything I loved is off the menu. I also hate that I wasn't warned I can only get covered for 200 test strips for free, per calendar year, when it was free up until I started using it. Had I known that, I would have gotten a few extra boxes, before getting it. Now unless my doctor gets on that I'll have to pay almost 100 dollars for a box of test strips.

    Tom says Libre 3 readings tend to be a bit lower than those from a finger prick. I have just finished using a Libre 2 for 14 days and it was consistently higher (by a full 1 mmol/L) than my Contour Next finger prick device. In U.S. units, that represents a difference of 18 mg/dL, which is very significant in my opinion.

I really wanted to love the new Libre device which was recently released in the US because it’s very affordable in comparison to Dexcom but have gone through 2 sensors with Libre 3 and they are not accurate. Libre 3 is providing False readings after days of installation. Here are my results. Libre 3: 64mg. Dexcom G6: 107mg. One touch finger prick: 108mg. My Dexcom is very accurate and we are happy with the product but it’s very costly. I guess you get what you pay for.

    Tom, Hi, Why do you think dexcom 6 doesn't show all your BS'S so you can tell if your sugar's are going up or down without the reference of numbers. Do you think they did this on purpose that when your sugar is going low that your not able to make the pressing of 1 and 2 work. They know how we feel during a low sugar and that constant beeping is driving me insane and I'm not in my right mind I want to grab my hammer to make an adjustment toD6 but I'm not sure if it will live to see the next hour?( permanent adjustment) I was waiting for the price of eversense to come down for the incision part to be only 2x a year because it was already approved in Ireland instead of paying a grand for the procedure of insertion but know the guy from eversense called my insurance company and they told Jake there is no money for Eversense. I do not like this D6 I never wanted this one especially having to wait two hours for warmup to finally work plus not showing all the numbers. I don't want the hassle.When I was shopping for clothing the other day I ended up knocking the entire sensor piece off my arm. When I get in and out of the shower I bump the piece both times it's hitting the hard part of the shower (I'M dopic or doplic) B.B.

    Great video as always, Tom! For anyone who might be trying to decide on the Dexcom G6, I have T2 managed with pills. I am a new CGM user, using the G6 for almost a month, and I can EASILY see that the people in the commercials are telling the truth. Your A1C WILL go down. Having that glucose reading available every five minutes really works on the good side of your human nature-- it makes you not want to eat that thing that you know will make that graph line start to rise. Five weeks until I do bloodwork again, and I cannot wait to see what my new A1C will be. On more note on the G6-- I did not get the receiver initially because I thought it simply could not be more convenient than just using my phone. The problem is, you are not able to use your phone's bluetooth for anything else, like feeding speakers, or a big stereo, or ear buds, etc.-- without losing readings for that entire time. (I was told by Dexcom tech support that it only connects to your phone when it has a new reading-- to save the transmitter battery-- but I am not sure how long it tries to connect before it goes back to sleep.) The receiver will cost me $308 (USD) up front, but it will probably last for years, and in my opinion will be well worth that cost. Thanks again for all these videos, Tom! Keep 'em coming!

    Most important to me is accuracy. Freestyle Libre 2 readings were always way off. I was hoping one of your topics would have been reliability. For the 1 year 1 was using freestyle libre, I had 4 sensor that didn't work right out of the box and 2 that failed early. I haven't been using the g6 for that long but I haven't had an issue in this area so far. How about the rest of you?

    @BlacklistBill 2 роки тому +2

    One other thing about the Libre 3. Even though it is slightly less accurate than the Dexcom, at least what you saw during testing (that you showed, correct me if what I say now is wrong) is that the bias was always lower than your measured blood glucose. Though having high blood glucose is bad, it's not nearly as bad as low blood glucose, so "riding high" is a better outcome than getting a low blood glucose.

    Unfortunately, in my country, you need a doctor's prescription for the sensors. Also, my great "freedom of choice" health insurance provider determined that I wasn't diabetic enough for any kind of blood glucose meters or testing supplies. This means that for the Libre 2, it would cost me $800 or so for a year. I do not believe the Libre 3 is "approved" for use in my country.

    I have been using Libre 2 for about 2-3 months. Libre 3 is not available here yet. I find that the accuracy of the sensors varies significantly between sensor, and it is often necessary to "calibrate" the sensor against test strips at least once daily to determine how much to subtract from the reader reading. I generally find that the libre 2 reads higher than the test strips... and can vary over the life of the sensor. This can be especially true early in the life of the sensor.

    Is there something I can do to improve the connection of my dexcom6 to my apple watch to track blood sugars? The main reason I got my apple watch was to keep track of my blood sugars without having to get my iphone out of my purse or fanny pack to see my blood sugars. My apple watch hardly ever has the blood glucose numbers displayed, but it does seem to alert me to actual low numbers by vibrating. I would like to have the numbers displayed so that if I am biking or am being physically active, I can just glance down at my watch and see if I need to boost my sugar with a snack before actually hitting a low.
