Where I'm from, logging camps (never heard it called a lumber camp) are largely far away near the heavily forested areas. They tend to be temporary camps where people take down trees, strip them to logs, and haul them away. Sawmills (sometimes called lumber mills) are permanent industrial setups often nearer to the city where logs are brought to be sawed into dimensional lumber. While there are some tree nursery-style setups around here, most of the sustainable forestry involves only cutting down a portion of the trees and then having another group plant new ones in their place some time later. This organization may be a result of living on the Canadian Prairies where most people live in the central and Southern prairie areas but logging and mining are primarily done up North in the Canadian Shield.

Definitely a very abstracted Settlers 2 if you don't like the military side of Settlers 2 and don't mind the simplistic look this game would very much fill that itch for you, The highway pretty much equates to a Road with a Donkey
I do think this game is quite heavily emphasizing the 'build, complete task, destroy and build for next task' nature that Shapez has. So yes, to use trains you kinda wanna make a use case for trains.

So far it's reminding me more of the classic Settlers games (from before they tried to become Stronghold) than Anno, but I guess a lot fewer people would know those games.
i played the demi/prologue before release - probably from seeing the same video as belial - and enjoyed it immensely. and that was before so many features (like highway) became available. the part my brain had the hardest time wrapping around was that the I/O port for the buildings did not need a road node and just need a road to pass it by and the delivery will happen automagically. it helped with road designs. i'm probably the worst target audience for this game because my brain cannot handle bad or ugly spaghetti so i'd frequently wipe whole sections just to prettify/optimise it and the shortage in the meanwhile would absolutely kill the population so i'd have major dip before a surge in recovery. i'd enjoy seeing more aavak-play of this because, once used to the mechanics, you could probably do some fun stuff with this.
St Algorithmus notes that "lumbering" is "the act of cutting and preparing forest timber for transport and sale" and that "lumber" is, indeed, the rough cut timber and not, in fact, the dressed and finished final product you might use to build a shed. A "lumber mill" is a place where lumber is taken in and dressed and prepared into boards, planks, and so forth. That said, your brain will still, most likely, continue to associate lumber as it already does. Out of curiosity, what would you call a felled trunk and a wooden beam in Welsh? Are they different terms?
This is the first time I can't get a sense of how long you actually played. The amount of time to wait for all that growth, I feel might be in the hours? So you had to play this 10-24 hours to show us this first taste, edited down to 1 1/2? (I know I can go get the demo and see for myself, but maybe in the future when you have to wait a lot, let us know what the real time scale of waiting was.) Sadly, in the US, anything that can be ground down fine enough and isn't actually poisonous, is food, so Cow Ligaments are 'probably' part and parcel of "pink slime". ;-p

I think the word you were looking for is either logging camp or timber camp rather than lumber camp.
