Corrections, This is the safest roads in Kenya. The drivers here are sober and extra careful not to roll over the cliff, and this is why there are less cases of accidents on this Mai mahiu stretch compared other parts like ntulele stretch. Here you cannot over speed leave alone overtaking .The meandering of the road and the trucks, Lazima uwe macho. Asante for this, your camera is awesome.
🕉🌹🙏. I was born in Kericho. This Road is my most memorable. Traveling to Nairobi via Nakuru and Navasa . Small church ⛪️ on the way ! Which was built by 🇮🇹 Italy along the with Road . One time as a little girl we were traveling on this Road during the night time we saw a Lion 🦁 on muddy hill. I will never forget that . Thanks We always bought 🍐’s and Basket 🧺’s along on the way .
Imagine the most dangerous road in Kenya is between city cabanas interchange and Taj Mall rounderbout, less than a kilometre of strech but many pedestrian loss their life every year on that road.
That's the road i always use to my village when travelling from Nairobi.Mai mahiu-Narok-Bomet-Kisii.Remember it's literally the safest road because many motorists are very keen when driving there
Even President.Obama & Michelle Obama used that road when they came to KENYA for the first time in there early 20's back in 1988 . The photos are there in Archive.
This road is very safe because it keeps one alert and careful. The straight roads is where drivers get careless. I am now in my 60s and this road is where i have travelled to and from my rural home
What I remember about this road is that around 2013 I traveled to Nairobi from Kampala but at this real place I piped through the Simba coach bus and I felt dizzy 👼so on my return journey never did I doze off not until we had to pay through out this place.
Nice. We want more Jamaicans coming. I've always wondered why Yendi Phillips has traveled to so many countries but not Kenya, the biggest consumer of reggae music outside the Caribbean
Its a wonderful road. I have driven it many times and been fortunate to never have an incident or accident.. The problem is overspeeding and carelessness.
I wonder if the answer would be to make it one way. Use this road to come up only. Then build another road to go down in a different place. Maybe to connect it to one of the bypassess so when its in the rift valley it is already low down on the floor.
Thats great! But I still wonder if carelessness recklessness and overspeeding will happen on the down route. I also wonder if there is space to dual it without ruining the beauty of the road.
That road just needs an upgrade, first they need to find an alternative for the traders along that road, such a road needs no obstructions. There's a lot of room to have climbing lanes on that road and create pits, where if a truck loses control probably due mechanical failure then it can brought to stop at the pit stop. The view from that road is world class, thanks for taking the time to showcase the motherland.
My dad told us a story of how he and a friend he was driving on that road in the 80s and the car, an old Volkswagen, died on them. They pushed it to a gate and asked an old man to leave the car at his house. The man invited them in fed them and agreed to help. It took him six months to get the money together to go get the car and the old man welcomed him back no problems and refused anything in compensation. Every time we drove past there he would repeat that story with gratitude in his voice to a stranger who helped.
That story you are telling reminds me of how friendly , trustworthy and helpful I knew Kenyans to be. We still have remnants of those traits but I wish more effort would be put into bringing it all the way back. I feel sorry for any Kenyans who may never get to experience it.
@@ubaachieng4668 We have short-sighted leaders to whose brains it would not occur that cultivating this spirit of togetherness is important, with even important economic implications
Unless you are reckless and u don't observe traffic rules; you can say it's dangerous. This is THE SAFEST ROAD AND MOST ATTRACTIVE sceneries. Most people visit Kenya just to have look at beautiful Rift Valley. Obey the traffic rules and be safe; that's the way it is
This reminds me I recently did a video along that stretch and filming is quite something since you have always be on the lookout.Wait until rocks start falling on the road from the cliffs😅😅I think something needs to be done since it's also an attraction site for tourists. The rails at sections of the viewpoint are also in a bad state it's high time🙏

This is the road to my home, I use it atleast ince or twice a month. It's dangerous yes but at the same time it has great scenery, the sharp corners are scary and have costed many lives, esp speeding truck drivers or new drivers on the stretch to Maai mahiu. It's said to have been built by Italians in 1930s but since then it has never been expanded. If you're new to the road, 1. don't speed or overtake carelessly, there's lots of sharp bends. 2. Don't take your eyes off the road or else you'll find yourself in the ditch below. 3. Drive slowly don't try to be like the matatus, or trucks used to this road, take your time, arrive safe. 4. If you have enough time, stop at the selected view points and enjoy our beautiful escarpment beauty. 5. Just before you arrive to Maai mahiu, there's the smallest church in the country with only 12seats. Built by Italians in 1930, go there and give thanks you made it through. 😀
Thanks for this very helpful information, it will complement in my research and documentary project for this section of Kenya road network considered one of the most dangerous to drive through. Cheers
I think the Mai Mahiu road is the most breathtaking route with such a picturesque Rift Valley scenery to go with it. Drive safe na kura ya Asimio 🙂😃 #INAWEZEKANA
never will you ever try to be in a bus on this road.......... in your head you always see angels welcoming you with hymns and songs...weuh.....like the bus ahead of you😉
Yes I have used this road. It's mainly for trucks and lorries heading to & from Msa.These trucks are not allowed to use the Kinungi section of the Nrb-Nkr highway. By the way I have been searching for the title of the first african song with a west African vibe that played at the start of this video.
Whenever I use this road, the question I always try to find out is "How did those people manage to construct this road through the thickets and steep slopes." The views of the Great Rift Valley are amazing but this road is dangerous for those who overtake aimlessly. Then when it decides to host lots of vehicle and you are forced to sit silently in the jam. Great video, We love your work
Naughty Kenyans🤔🥰🥰💕hmm is this Rd dangerous my dia try to visit ug once again and use that road of south western Uganda going to Rwanda and see caves of roads,, they move meandering like a river especially after kabale to kisoro district entering Rwanda even there are other roads in western going to congo and another one still in south western Uganda btn rukungiri and kanungu districts and imagine I rarely hear accidents there 😊
Yes, a familiar nostalgic once upon a time spectacular escarpment route from Nairobi to Nakuru despite little traffic then. Perhaps speed- limit cameras and road makings for safe distances between vehicles to allay hair-raising situations on the present road.
I guess the dangerous section going down the escarpment has to be closed for 3/4 weeks to implement the safety measures. But worthy it, when it offers spectacular views of the Rift Valley - the cradle of Mankind.
I have heard of this road before in Kenya from the Ugandan friends who travelled there,it is so scary it looks like kyambura gorge or a section after Igara tea estate in Bushenyi western Uganda as u r heading to Kasese, the Kenyan government needs to expand it, because it has tourists n many other users
They need to make a strong barrier so that even if a car swerves it doesnt fall off the side and cause a bigger accident. Also reduce the speed limiy and ban overtaking
its a shame they allowed hawkers to build kiosks and block the riftvalley view,JUBILEE chaos evrwhre, kenya tourist authority sleeping on the job.Nothing dangerous here just careless driving compare that to hilly Italy and Monaco
A very beautiful and scenic road! More about dangerous drivers than a dangerous road! There would no incidents or accidents if people were not stupid..speeding, overtaking on bends, drinking under the influence etc!
I have used this road hundreds of times taking tourists to and from Masai Mara. I wonder why nobody mentions the trucks that make 90 % of the traffic. They are the reason why many drivers behave badly and irresponsibly and make the road so dangerous. It even happens quite often that tourists miss their flights. If the authorities could find a different way for trucks to get to Naivasha, nothing much would need to be done to it, apart from security rails and some view points where you are not harassed by souvenir sellers. In short, ban trucks from the road and it is one of he safest and most scenic roads in the world!
Iyo barabara ni ya 1940s, imagine what Chinese could do if awarded the tender to restructure that road. They would do it fast with breathtaking views as compared to French who have not started yet.
Some things do not need to be tampered with. A UA-camr once show two sections of the same road done by Japan and China. If cost was not an issue, I would choose Japan anytime. The Chinese seem to be good at building something functional, not so good at beauty. Maybe it is only in Kenya that they may have been forced to do that because they are capable of doing both.
It looks busy with only one lane each way which makes overtaking difficult, people are bound to get impatient and make stupid decisions. That's the biggest danger i see with the road, beautiful landscapes nonetheless.
