- Our experience during Lockdown Phase 3 of the Corona MCO (Movement control order) in Langkawi, Malaysia: After 16 days on the boat we necessarily need to go food shopping again. Since the marina office is closed (no more cars to rent) we take out our bicycles to reach Matsirat which is 8 km away (10 km are allowed). A lot of food is available and we fill our bags and backpacks.
At the entrance to the marina we are checked by the police, who think we are biking just for fun.
Back on the boat we follow our routine on board get into heavy thunderstorms and get frustrated hearing about the news from Germany and Switzerland.

Whilst the world looks at New Zealand as an example of how to deal with the Covid-19 crisis, and rightly so, it has totally ignored the Malaysian response.
Perspective.....
New Zealand locked down its borders on 19th March.
Malaysia did so a day earlier on the 18th March.
New Zealand is an island nation and as such has a significant advantage in its control measures.
Malaysia is not and has 2 major international crossing into Thailand and Singapore, plus multiple crossings from Sabah and Sarawak into Indonesia on the island of Borneo.
New Zealands fatalities are 21 from a population of 4.88 million.
Malaysia fatalities are 112 from a population of 30 million.
Malaysian frontline staff are working in temperatures of 34C to 39C.
The last three weeks a large percentage of Malaysian frontline personnel have been working during fasting as the country engages in Ramadan.
Malaysia has reduced its R to 0.3, faster than most countries in the world.
So while we must congratulate New Zealand and what they have done, lets not forget Malaysia who have performed magnificently and led the recovery in the Asia Pacific region.

It is best to dock your boat and go rent hostel or Airbnb for time being. Malaysia has extend the MCO for another 2 weeks and i believe it may extended all the way to Jun or July. With the Moonson coming, i believe it will be more comfortable and more space for both of you and release the tension.
Dear Muhammed, thank you for your concern. Good idea with the hostel but we cannot leave the boat alone. In case there is a bad storm, we have to make sure that nothing happens to the boat.

Thanks Rick, good to hear you like it! Well, until May 12th we're for sure locked down, but unless other countries open up, there's nowhere to go. I talked to a French sailor yesterday, they have the luxury to have Reunion as an option to go, but being Swiss or even German there's nowhere you can sail to without stopping...

Thank you so much! Yes, we experience very often how everyone is helpful. Once we had a flt tyre (see our video Lockdown part 1 MCO Phase 1&2 ua-cam.com/video/aAirGuLy-8A/v-deo.html ) and it did't take more than 15 seconds and the first people stopped to help us. You too take good care!

Dumb land bumpkin question: Have you guys ever left your boat and returned to find things messed with/stolen, or worse, the entire vessel gone :o ? (Guess I've watched Dead Calm too many times).
No, so far not, but we only ever left it in places that are rather secure and we stow away and lock everything ;-)

We catch rain water and have a watermaker. Not ideal in this merky water. But the water we get in the marine is not good anymore.
no police probably because Langkawi have no active C19 cases. meaning there is no new or current C19 patient in its hospitals. and regarded as "green zone" ..
oh that's very good news, we had just heard that there were 4 cases when the MCO started, but good to know that it has stayed that way

Mco not gonna over soon thats for sure .. Try go to immigration or police station and ask them how to go other state.. Some people said if we still have covid in Malaysia we will not open until there is no more case in malaysia
