Becky, Thank you for showing the bare drywall and plywood. Not everyone would be brave enough to show it. It is so honest and shows you don't have to wait for everything to be just ever so perfect to be able to start to enjoy living the homesteading lifestyle. Thank you.

*Next time you are missing a string to level - try the water level technique. Fill a hose with water and lay it on the ground between the pilings ( **tinyurl.com/y27env9r** ). Then lift up both ends so you can see the water inside; one to the starting spot and the other to the spot you want to level. The water in the hose at each end will tell you exactly where level is.*

Hubby and I live in Maine and planted a 100 bush U-Pick blueberry orchard 15 yrs ago.Bought our fixer-upper but the mortgage is low-built various raised beds and now replacing them all because of rot. Now we are building with indestructible materials. At the moment we are building a Hoophouse/greenhouse,and are framing in the door and window, then the plastic goes on. We built our pole barn, 4 bay garage, 3 big sheds. Next spring its baby chicks, but building the hen house this year!! You did a great job coming as far as you have!!

That's a good bathroom idea! I never thought about a freezer until I saw yours. I was going to get an old fashioned drying rack pulley thingie and I think I will still put it in my bathroom as it makes sense to keep all the wet stuff together. I will be saving up for a wood fired water cylinder which will also go in the bathroom so it will be warm!

I’m Australian and we always have outside clothes line and dry our clothes in the fresh air and sunshine I’m always amazed at the fact that most American homes use tumble dryers to dry their cloths that is such a waste of power and your clothes don’t end up as fresh as they do when the sun and fresh air has dried them I guess it’s all about what you grow up with my mother is British and as a child her family had a rack that was suspended from the ceiling above the wood fired cooker and you could lower it to put clothes on it and then raise it back up into the rising heat coming of the stove but she also remembers laughing at the sight of her fart hers Panama’s frozen on the line looking like some one was in them and having ttonwait for them to thaw freezing clothes is just not a issue in the part of Australia that I am from

I air dry / hang dry a lot of my clothes too. I do put socks, towels, and sheets in the dryer. I also have three adjustable shower rods in my spare bathroom (you could put them in your main bathroom, too) and hang clothes on those shower rods. They are not expensive and they are wrapped with vinyl so they don't mess up the fabric or rust as they are not metal. You can buy them at any box store. Just twist them to fit your space, there are short ones and long ones.

So once you get down to really quality basics your life is so much better. I am proud of my mother putting what counts and is important first. 800 SQ FT IS A GOOD SIZED HOME, then add a beautiful treed area and animals and your sure not roughing it. Found you under the search tiny homes... I don't think it could be called that. A very nice farming home. Thanks for sharing.

+Carla Garrett I don't think she ever said she was "roughing it" but do you live in 800 sq ft? That is WAY smaller than the average home so even though it's not tiny, like 172 sq ft, it is certainly smaller than the majority of homes out there. And probably yours too but like I said, she never said she was roughing it. She's loving it!

Thanks for good hints. I bought an old farm house (about 100 years), (150 m2) but right now I use only 75 m2. I use traditional wood heating but I have also radiators. Your kitchen looks great. I must use similar ways to fix pots, pans, plates etc. Luckily I found antique furniture from the storage building. I can use those in kitchen because space is needed. I try produce my own food so I must buy only meat, fish and milk products from the market. I wish you good luck there. All the best for you. PS My farm is located on an Island (60 km x 30) but continent can be reached in 30 minutes by a local ferry. Life is very quiet here and there are not so called light pollution. I have lot of space for kitchen garden. I can see stars so well. :)

Love your sweet, not too little, log cabin:) Since it is very humid where I live, it’d take forever for the clothes to dry, so I would get a stack washer and dryer. I’ ve used them in many of my houses and they are no bigger than a washer, width wise. And since I live alone and am not the greatest cook, I’d mount a microwave over the stove.

Ah Becky you have everything that I am aspiring to... I have the horses and the bit of land it's just finishing off the cabin...it's driving me nuts! I have so much other things I need to do... the horse is at my sister's stables but I really want to get a Highland pony cross and start training it to pull a little trap... I think I will need it when I go offgrid... I think it would be easier to get stuff like wood from up at the log splitter and water for drinking because I haven't got a spring at my bit and I either have to go to the house or the spring further into the woods. I will be rainwater harvesting but I think the spring is best for drinking. I get really frustrated when I see beautiful nplaces like yours! I love I!

You had me at log cabin. Becky it is amazing how much common sense points you hit on in this video. I too want to move to the country( south Carolina,Texas, etc) to get away from the $hit hole state I'm living in now. And what you said about keeping all of the "wet" items in one place is genius. And I'm betting that some of today's home builder's wouldn't even think of it. I'd be very interested in the log cabin home. 800 sqft is plenty for most people, they just don't know it. Like comedian George Carlin said..
" The reason you keep buying a bigger house is to put your stuff in. And then you have to buy an even bigger house is because you got more stuff". Anyway Great video and thanks for posting something on UA-cam that actually serves a purpose. 2 THUMBS UP

Becky, you're the bomb. Love the cabin, your attitude towards microwaves and the fact that you built it. I wish you the best and happiness in your place. I'm semi hooked so I'm going to look at your other vids. Great Job and "You work it girl"

Absolutely brilliant!! My wife and want to move in right away :-) LOL. Your planning is first rate and you definitely know the difference between need and want. Great job! Do you have kids and what do they think? (Not to be nosy….just curious) Our four boys would think we were crazy. :-) We subscribed and are looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.

my husband and myself live in a 1,100 sf home, and I can tell you this. Its to big!
we only use less than 400 sf of it. all the time I think this home should be for a family not just us two. I would love to downsize and free myself of so much clutter!
its so nice to see other people live the life they really want.

Becky, I love your videos. I really enjoyed seeing the inside of your home. You show the outside of your home with the animals, but I always wondered how much land you actually have there. Would you share that info with us? Thanks again for the great work!

Those small cooker and fridge are standard size in England every house has them that size ,unless you go for a range cooker and a American fridge which are bigger ,but usually it’s the smaller ones

I noticed your Pyrex mixing bowls under the cabinet. I have the same set lol. My Mom (God rest her soul) gave them to me . She used them everyday when I was growing up. I love your table, I was wondering if you made it yourself ? Your Home is just wonderful. I enjoy your videos so much.
