    great work ,, but in the 1st part of the riff C# to B to C# ,, B to D ? has a less dominant value than the following >>
    C# to B to C# ,, ( A to D ) by using A TO D you get a harder tone on the chord change ,,
    but hey ,, only 12 weeks until LBGS ,, happy new year Scott : D

    Many years ago I once attended a clinic about Ashdown bass amps by owner Mark Gooday. He said the bass player on this track used an Ashdown amp with the input gain or `valve drive' on 10, pushing the preamp into distortion, and the `sub-harmonics' effect on 10 as well. Are you sure it was played on a keyboard?

    So... I bought a bass earlier today after about 7 years of not playing. I've been playing all night recapping scales etc. What do you think the best way of getting back into it? Last time I think I went the wrong way about it by learning song riffs rather than actually understanding what I'm playing, and keeping time to backing tracks...if that makes sense?... what are your thoughts on this?

  • @rawstarmusic
    @rawstarmusic 8 років тому

    It's a good song. I like the octave pedal, don't like chorus on bass although one needs timbre movement over time.

  • @JERSEYTARPIT

    I guess I’m really late commenting on this but how is nobody mentioning Stuart Zender?? I think that’s his playing on the track, maybe with a synth too, but that sounds like his playing. How could his name not come up, Stuart is tremendous and was a huge influence on a lot of players. He’s even got a custom Warwick model named after him. I’m a little heartbroken right now Scott.

    Sweet riff! I would love to learn how you do those little mutes, it looks simple just can't figure it out.

    • @robbertzzzzz
      @robbertzzzzz 8 років тому

      JackaL you play those by leaving your fretting hand on the strings without pushing down (so muting), and playing with your plucking hand. Because you're muting, you only hear those dead notes. Scott probably has a pastorius type 16th bass line lesson on here somewhere, this muting technique is typical for those bass lines.

    • @gameshark0703
      @gameshark0703 8 років тому

      Thanks a lot Robert, i have always understood what you do, i guess i just haven't built up the coordination to fit it in with the lines im playing, do you know of any exercises i could try out.

    • @robbertzzzzz
      @robbertzzzzz 8 років тому

      You could start off with playing a single note, let's say the C on the third fret of your A string, and alternate between playing a note and a muted note. True different patterns to gain control over it. Start with something simple like four notes followed by four muted notes, at a slow tempo, and build up to patterns like a drummers paradiddle (note mute note note mute note mute mute). When you've got that under control, move to a simple bassline, and make sure every time you're not playing a note, that you still play a muted one. So in your right hand, keep playing steady eighth notes, while your left hand is handling the notes, and mutes when you don't play a note.
