Joe killed himself before Ren got sick. Ren however decided to not kill himself as he saw the impact it had on everyone Joe knew. So Joe saved Ren's life.
Wow. A pretty simple way of putting it, but a good one. RIP Joe. Long live Ren.
The Welsh beginning says (rough translation from what I remember reading/hearing):

"In god we trust, god tied a noose to his neck and he walked to the edge and he jumped" Suicide is abandonment, God abandoned him in the cruelest way and left him to his pain.
"tears from heaven like Clapton" - he tried religion
"pins in the voodoo, Hendrix" - he tried alternative medicines
"stay humble, kendrick" - ren has a song with the line "i made friends with my pain cuz my pain it kept me humble" which is his closure on dealing with his condition.
as an aside, I wonder how many of us Ren fans are in Oregon?

I saw this come up on my feed and then I saw that it was 40+ minutes and a smile came to my face, and I saved it for when I could dedicate the time to what I KNEW was going to be a very thoughtful and insightful reaction. And …Wow! It’s going to take me a minute to get a proper response because this reaction deserves it.
* I will add that this was the last track that Ren wrote for Sick Boi and, along with MG3 , it was written while undergoing treatment in Canada. So yes, it is too easy to look at Ren actually living a life outside of the clinic and ASSUME that he’s over the worst of it and on the other side , BUT he is VERY much still going through it and has had several bouts of complications from the medication/s.

He also said that he loves the stories of religions in an interview.
It's my feeling from examining his lyrics & interviews that he started losing his faith after Joe, and lost it during his long health struggles.
That's one of the best reactions I've seen 😍.. Worth every minute.. 👍 I haven't heard anyone mention about Joe being the point of God jumping off cliff.. That's very interesting 🤔 I know it was around the time he started getting ill when it happened and it did have a massive affect on him.. The beginning part crawling on floor was a memory from 2015 when he basically broke down mentally.. About 5 years after Joe I think.. I just can't imagine getting through all he has this song makes me appreciate the smaller things in life we can forget that are very important.. Greatly appreciate how carefully you listened to this one, and the respect you show for what Ren is sharing. So traumatic and vast. He is deeply motivated to spread understanding, empathy and encouragement and is clearly succeeding.
fyi... one of the symptoms that he has dealt with is bone pain in his legs and feet. Still does suffer from that. So that magificent lyric "bones were a home where the devil could rest" refers to that.

Interesting. This is the first time I thought of God jumping from the edge also being a depiction of Joe. Could take that thought further to 23:45 since Joe's body went missing as well

He also says “Imagining heaven” and Imagine was by Lennon - so I give him a pass that he is also quoting Lennon despite Let it Be actually written by McCartney. ;)

As someone who has suffered neuropathy, i understood the line "Bones were a home where the devil could rest," to mean that the pain that wandered his body came to rest in his bones, When you have infection or injury to your organs, your nervous system does not localize the pain and it feels like your skeleton is aching deeply;
The body missing and losing faith line could be a reference that joes body was never found and when his friend went missing , so did his faith
I have a autoimmune disease and I cried so much hearing this song, I felt all these emotions. I don't feel so alone. Thank you Ren❤

This one really hit home. I struggle with chronic pain. I fight daily to keep moving. I lost a friend a couple of weeks ago who had brain cancer, and his left side was paralyzed. The daily fight had just become too much for him.

REN’s Lyme disease (from a tick bite) undiagnosed for years, led to his autoimmune conditions: MCAS, and POTS. Now 14 years.
So my wife has always been super concerned about ticks whenever our boys play in a field or hike in the woods. She always makes us do tick checks. I grew up playing in the woods and never saw a tick in my life, so I always thought she was paranoid and ridiculous… I would even complain about doing the tick checks… I knew Lyme disease was bad, but never actually realized to what extent. Now that I’ve been exposed to the realities of it through ren, I think my wife was very smart to make us do that, even though we never found one on the boys, I’m still glad she forced us to do it, and I won’t complain about it anymore going forward! 😂
Great analysis! I agreed with most of what you said and thought differently about a few things afterwards. A few notes that I had already discerned-“red-winged seraphim” symbolized fire, right after he said onomatopoeia he starts making sounds that can be represented with onomatopoeia, and he slips in the homonym “forensic” which I take mean both the time they took figuring out what was wrong with and the fact that Ren was actually sick for so long. I do have a slightly different interpretation of the part “Empires tumble, rubble and dust. The universe shrinks and the planets combust” as I think he is referring to how long he has been sick and that it feels like forever to him, but I could be wrong on that one, or knowing Ren, we would both be right. Peace man!

I'm a lupus patient. The last time I didn't have constant physical pain was when I was 15 (I'm 41 now). It is.... awful.
This song is one of my favorites on the album. The first part speaks to me SO deeply. And the second half is just freaking beautiful lyricism that gets stuck in my head.
Great reaction, enjoyed the breakdown. When I heard “In God we trust”,…. I immediately thought about USD$, this motto is on the bank notes… so a metaphor for money. ”God tied a nose….” I think is a metaphor for humanities self destruction due to greed- linking back to the just mentioned money and the fact that we are made in Gods image. Ren has used this type of suicide metaphor in Eden and Sick Boi (could be others too). Knowing Ren, this is probably a double or triple though.
The night Joe killed himself, Ren had to get out of bed to run to the bridge after he got loads of messages from his friends.

Just an observation on the seraphim. I can read it a couple ways: does the seraphim cry tears from heaven as an expression of god's grace or does it cry because it has fallen from heaven and is no longer in god's grace? Here's a bit on the Clapton song 'Tears in Heaven.

I just found you and your channel been going through the Ren videos .. may I ask will you be doing any of his his band videos ???? his band name is " The Big Push really like his band and singing voice, this was amazing review loved it ,,, this song really makes you realize what pain Ren goes through, so glad they finally found his diagnose and he is getting treatment hopefully the treatment helps him ..
funfact: nearly a third of Welsh adults speak Welsh, it's heavily pushed by the school system as a way to try to preserve the culture.
you're pronunciation is a bit bad but not really through faultof your own, 'w' is actually a vowel in welsh it's sounds a bit like 'u' or 'oo' in English. it's actually literally 'uu' as in it's a double u. you know the actual name of the letter instead of the BS English does.

Your reactions to Ren are always good, but dude, you unlocked a new level with this one - I’m confident this is the most thoughtful, insightful reaction I’ve watched out of maybe 60+ by now.
Lots of things you were picking up and thinking on first listen, and I like how you were letting yourself really take time to listen and reflect and even gave multiple interpretations, thoughts and ideas.
I think this is a masterpiece - along with MG3 and Suic!de in particular on the album - I’d include Castles made of sand (the extra track on the deluxe version on bandcamp). I can’t really say I have favs on the album as that changes depending on my mood and which one I heard last ;) but I think this is a track that will stay with people for a lifetime, it’s that good.
41 mins flew by - there is so much to this one, it wasn’t a minute wasted.
