I’d like to think that Gintoki truly gave up everything after he lost in the Joi War, but found the reason to protect something by making his promise to Otose.
Well, for some reasons, anime these days are full of those OP protagonists who never loses or loses for a joke. For example, most isekai protagonists who has OP abilities and harem.
This arc portrayed his rage perfectly. Long ago he failed to protect what was his and lost it to the so called HEAVEN. When he found what's precious to him, he again felt the feeling of pain of losing someone. He is a very well written character.
The ability to portray such raw emotion with just animation... then combine that with the soundtrack and voice acting. That is what makes anime great. Truly masterful.
This anger power up might have worked on someone else but on the skill level that jirocho and gintoki are anger makes you make mistake that someone like jirocho wouldnt miss , same thing happened when sougo fought hijikata despite sougo being stronguer he lost to hijikata

This arc oh my god. What a rollercoaster of emotion. I never laughed, hyped, and cried so hard before. There's no other series could make me sobbing with a punny character literally named "Delinquent Girl" (Chin Pirako could be a word play for Chinpira Ko, a rough naughty kid)

what i like about gintoki is every time he get angry and lost his cool he always lose the battle but when he is in his right mind the enemy get fuck up easily and in does characteristic you will learn something that rage and hatred cant make you strong.
This is the only anime fight that the MC lost even though he raged... Really awesome fight Edit: There are more fights that are like this, but i think this is the best fight that represents it
Yahh I really like that logic. The moment the sword broke means that his soul got destroyed too. He's raging means he's not thinking straight and despairing, his soul is in the edge of collapsing.
@@skmm8269 the anime really love to exaggerated things sometimes like explosion the winds happening when clashing swords just to polished the fight cleaner and rival with the ones with the attack names or superpowers (haki, jutsu, ki, magic etc.)
It was a shocking moment for me right after Otose wounded, Gintoki lost his first fight ever. Though in Benizakura arc he used a katana instead. And this time his bokken broken for first time ever as well. Wonder would he win if he used a steel katana this time too.

It's mentioned in demon slayer today that's it's not the blade's fault, it's the wielder's (I think it's a samurai ideology) if you're not calm you don't have control over your body your soul is raging it's fragile and might break.. the sword breaking represent that his soul break. It's a situation that even with a steel sword it will still break because he's raging. They just use wood for realistic way

攘夷戦争というのは1年やそこらで終わった戦争ではなく、何年も続いた戦争であり、銀さん達が参加したのは終盤も終盤です。次郎長や西郷さんも攘夷戦争参加者ですが、世代が違います。
