  • "The Bible has been weaponised against the Palestinians since the founding of the state of Israel,” laments Reverand Munther Isaac of the Christmas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bethlehem.
Isaac's powerful 'Christ in the Rubble' sermon delivered this past Christmas Eve is still going viral.
In the sermon, he criticises the silence of the Church on the genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza following the attack by Hamas, which killed 1200 Israeli civilians and took at least 240 people hostage.
Lester Kiewit interviews Reverend Munther Isaac, Palestinian Christian theologian and evangelical Lutheran pastor in Bethlehem.
This interview took place on 6 May 2024.

The Pastor is a good man with a very sensible, pragmatic approach to the Holy Land being for everyone to share, but he's also realistic about the future prospects of the 3 options open and how this might end in a more peaceful, less bloodthirsty way. For the sake of the future generations the Israelis and Palestinians need to find common ground, to work toward forgiveness and to sharing the Holy Land equally under the same laws and sociatal demands. If necessary the people should bypass their respective leaderships

Good day Lester & CapeTalk fam,
Reverend Munther Isaac's sermon on Palestine was a compelling call to action, resonating deeply with listeners worldwide. He eloquently articulated the complex realities faced by Palestinians under occupation, emphasizing the urgent need for an end to their suffering.
In his sermon, Reverend Isaac challenged simplistic narratives of the conflict, urging listeners to recognize the nuanced dynamics at play. Drawing from his own experiences and Christian teachings, he passionately argued for Palestinians' rights to dignity and freedom.
He painted a vivid picture of their daily struggles, from land loss to restrictions on movement. Central to his message was a plea for solidarity and empathy, urging people to stand with the oppressed and work towards a just resolution.
Reverend Isaac's sermon served as a reminder of Palestinian resilience and hope. Despite challenges, he emphasized the enduring spirit of resistance and the belief in a future of peace and equality for all. #TheUnassumingBillionaire

@@CuriousCattery This passage from 1 Timothy 4:1 speaks to the recognition that, over time, there will be those who turn away from their faith. It's a reminder to stay vigilant and rooted in one's beliefs, especially in challenging times. It underscores the importance of nurturing one's spiritual life and remaining steadfast in the face of potential obstacles or temptations.
In the Quran and Hadith, there are similar teachings about the challenges to faith and the importance of remaining steadfast. In Surah Al-Imran (3:175), it is mentioned, "And it is the Shaytan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers." This verse highlights the role of Satan in leading people astray and the need for believers to hold onto their faith despite the challenges. Additionally, in a Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The religion started as something strange, and it will return to being something strange, so glad tidings to the strangers." This Hadith emphasizes the importance of perseverance in faith, even if it means being in the minority or facing opposition. It's a reminder to remain steadfast in one's beliefs, even if they seem unconventional or unpopular to others. #TheUnassumingBillionaire

What about Ottoman Empire and its successor state, which committed the Hamidian massacres, the Armenian genocide, the Assyrian genocide, the Greek genocide, and the Diyarbekir? The Yazidi genocide was perpetrated by the Islamic State throughout Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2017. It was characterized by massacres, genocidal rape, and forced conversion to Islam. Ongoing persecution in North Korea, Nigeria, Iran, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, Yemen etc. Are they not against Christians? Every religion, ethnic group or nation are persecuting others in the world because of hatred and extremism. The Bible is very clear against violence, you're so-called Rev but incompetent about the Bible knowledge. You think God knows nothing about what's happening in the world. He knows from deep in the heart of people of their plan than anybody else. I feel sad about everything that is happening in this world, yet I still, keep praying for peace.

When you open your eyes it reveals that " the land" is occupied by two(?) groups who need to find a way to co-exist. If the 2 "protagonists' " supporters ( both "east and west" ) were serious about supporting peace then they would support - collectively- a process to reach an end.
Christians as it happens do not "support" either "side". They support peace, They, are not pro Israel nor pro palestinian ( whatever those labels might actually represent?) - but recognizing that they are neutral in this is key. The fact that various christian groupings have latched on to positions born of their understanding of eschatology is a deviation from this central role. All persons living there are entitled to be supported in their efforts towards peace. But peace, however good, in this instance is only a bus station on the journey towards the restoration of the creation and mankind to its proper role .

Even the AL Aqsa Mosque has slightly different sentences on its walls. Depending on which source, there are 10 to 30 different versions of the Arab book. In Arab because God gave the Torah to the Jews, the Bible to the Christians and the Quran to the Arabs. The Quran wasn't meant for any other people but the Arabs. Then came the taxes on the infidels in the holy lands, which made the pious ones rich and powerful, until their subjects "reverted" and the crusaders made a stop to their Islamic Golden Age. It's been downhill since, despite their control of their last trump card, oil. And little Israel was blessed with water and sanity.

Do those who bandy the word Apartheid actually understand what the word means in Afrikaans?
I do not espouse the previous government's ways ( actually not even the present one) but the word means being set apart. That said it meant that various groups of people connected by ethnicity, were given areas to live with their own governmental structures and even industrial hubs were created .
Apartheid meant that ethnic groups ( theoretically) lived in their own 'homelands'.
The irony regarding the Palestinians is that they want their own homeland: Apartheid.
