  • Conceptual artist Chris Burden spent the last four years erecting this scaled down mega city complete with over 1000 hot wheels cars, 25 skyscrapers, 18 lanes of traffic and 13 working trains dubbed Metropolis II (after the classic German film) and is currently entertains art fans by the roomful at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

    this is a great, fun piece, but the video makes it seem merely like a fun game because of the unecessary (and bad) extra-diegetic music! An integral part of the artwork's intensity is the incredibly loud sound of the "traffic". Why do people feel compelled to add music to amateur youtube videos, I often wonder...

    If you look at 1:02, you'll see just how realistic it is, where the cars on the freeways have to suddenly slow down, and they do it by crashing into the slower cars in front of them!

    why play the annoying music instead of the natural sounds? I never understand why people feel the need to play annoying pointless music in videos.
