Darien Lake is 30 min from my house. You can't understand how sad the park looked/operated last season unless you had the misfortune of visiting. After a year off, the park opened in a state of complete disrepair. It only slightly improved as the season went on. The park lost multiple attractions and barely operated most others. It's been in decline for years, but last season was a new low.
Ride of Steel got a brand new train from Intamin in 2016. Even though they only bought one train, I have a hard time believing that train is already at the end of its service life.
There is NO WAY they'll be removing Ride of Steel anytime soon. That ride is the staple attraction of Darien Lake, and removing it is TOTALLY out of the question. If anything they should just add a second train.
Exactly. Darien is my home park and if they removed ROS I won't be visiting anymore. I already have a hard enough time justifying even just one visit a year with how sad a state the park is in.
Herschend was actually the best management of Darien Lake between Six Flags runs. They installed the entire Rowdy’s Ridge area, cleaned up the Boardwalk area, I think they did the Splashtown waterpark expansion, and they built a bunch of cabins in the campground. There was even preliminary plans to RMC Predator. Herschend wanted to buy Darien Lake but the owners wanted to sell the entire amusement park & water park portfolio as a single unit. Herschend bailed because of that. Of course years later some of the parks were sold off individually. Anyway- Darien Lake is a shithole and a shell of its former self. They don’t need new rides right now. They need to fix up what they have, get back to two train ops on all coasters that can run two trains, repair infrastructure, get the campground and hotel up to par, make the park nice again. THEN look into new attractions. But the other big issue they always have is staffing. Being in the middle of nowhere makes it really hard to properly staff the park.
Well said.. I know you are a local as well. It was SO BAD last year. It's almost impossible to describe to anyone who didn't experience it. Sad sad sad.
SF Darien Lake made a comment stating basically that this rumor is not true. That this is one of their signature attractions that they are proud to feature as a current and part of their long term future.
If they tear this down they can kiss the whole park goodbye. It will run them out of business unless they replace it with another star attraction. Superman is the only reason even the GP go to this park, let alone coaster enthusiasts...
There’s no way this train reached the end of its service life, it’s only 5 years old and has only operated for 4 seasons. A lot of this rumor is off base and I don’t know who started it. Also, this park has to get most of its money invested into it from SF because they don’t fully own some of their parks like La Ronde, SFOG, and SFOT
The park just Tweeted “Hello! Ride of Steel is one of our signature attractions and we're proud to feature it now and as part of our long-term future.”
Glad I already visited Darien Lake a few months ago! Ride of Steel is arguably the state's best coaster, so it would have to be a major pain in the ass for the park to remove it.
it would just be idiotic to remove your staple attraction. It’s like Cedar Point removing Steel Vengence, Lagoon removing Cannibal, Magic Mountain removing twisted colossus. It’s crazy to think a park would even consider this.
If they remove ride of steel, I won’t be attending Darien Lake anymore. It’s my home park but RoS is by far the best ride in the park. It makes the trip worth it imo. Hope six flags realize this is a terrible mistake if the rumors are true. It seems like this park could do well just by upgrading their current line of coaster instead of spending big money on anything new at the moment.
Darien Lake is sooo close to being a significant destination spot for more people to visit. -Put in a new flat ride in the place of the ugly skeleton of the Giant Wheel (like a Zamperla Nebulaz) -Get Predator fully retracked (or RMC'd) -Update/add the restraints/trains for Mind Eraser (a la Riddle Revenge at SFNE) -Potentially add one more mid sized coaster that's good with the GP like a Premier Rides launch coaster that doesn't take up too much space, that could go a long way. -Second train for Ride of Steel -Second train for Viper It's a solid park and has just a few (albeit expensive) tweaks away from being a destination area for more enthusiasts and even employees to travel to and check out.
This is basically my home park and I’ve rid this coaster the most and have 50 more rides till my 100th ride. The Ride of Steel breaks down very often and will close for extended periods of time like at the beginning of last season a wheel malfunctioned causing a part of one of the cars to partly derail and damage to that car.
Sometimes the operators forget to unlock the restraints and dispatch’s are super slow and take a long time. Along with them not being aware of their surroundings
I was involved in reporting that rumor. I heard that one of the wheel axles broke to some extent due to neglect, and the ride got stuck on the break run. They replaced it pretty quickly and got it up and running the next weekend.
That would be a shame if they lost their marquee attraction. I was planning to go to Darien Lake this year on the way up to Canada's Wonderland but was a little hesitant due to the bad operations and the lack of quality rides but now this gives me more of a reason to visit.
It’s like SFMM removing X2, SFFT removing Superman Kypton Coaster, SFOT Removing Titan and Texas Giant, SFGAm removing Goliath and Raging Bull, SFGAdv removing Kingda Ka and El Toro.
I love Ride of Steel, it's a really underated coaster with really powerful turns. I actually like flat turns, especially that first one after the drop, you're so low to the ground and right over a lake, it's also really forceful, similar to the other helixes, it really makes you feel like you're flying~ I also love the straight track as others pointed out, it's meant to feel like you're flying, give you a sense of speed, I like it. This ride is in my Top 15 and I would really miss it if it closed...
I am going to a lot of Six Flags parks this year, but Darien is not one of them. Based on this, I will not be riding Ride of Steel ever. Luckily, I’ll get to Six Flags America!
I'm really hoping this remains just a rumor and it just disappears. The new train on Mind Eraser sounds like it would be helpful but with no replacement really, I can't imagine this place surviving much after that. RoS is too important not to be replaced by something as equally large. Heck, it's one of the only coasters I can get my family on.
I believe the reason why they might be looking to work on predator might be they want to avoid accidents like we had in our home park of Great Adventure with El Toro last year. The ride hasn’t reopened again since it derailed.
Look at their instagram - someone straight up asked them about RoS and they appear to have responded with “Ride of Steel is one of our signature attractions and we’re proud to feature it now and as part of our long-term future.”
@@CoasterStudios makes sense. Of course you can do as such, but the title and thumbnail sort of seem to present this as a fact more than a rumor. Just a thought.
There probably gonna get a big expansion if it actually gets removed, there’s no way they would remove a $12 million coaster and not have a huge replacement.
I went to darien lake in 2019 and it was an awesome park, home to my favorite roller coaster, ride of steel! I hope this oark gets the love it deserves as its so cool
I'm only a few hours from Darien Lake but I don't think I'll go unless explicitly invited. Ride ops were pretty rough last year and with this in mind sort of just adds to the reasons why I might as well invest in going a bit further to Hershey Park or even Canadas Wonderland.
What this is easily there best ride. I was actually just thinking about this because i was planning a trip to sfa and the clone is there. Unless they replace it with an intamin blitz, Rmc ground up hybrid or hyper coaster from any manufacturer like mack or b and m I think this will drop to possibly last place out of major six flags parks
The park isn’t owned by Six Flags and clearly isn’t being given that large a budget to work with - if the ride is scrapped or sold, then either the replacement will be much less substantial or there won’t be any replacement for it.
Tbh Darien lake is probably in the worst condition of all the six flags parks (except la ronde). When you have a ride like moose on the loose in your top 5 rides (still awesome), ya know that the park is in trouble. Removing ride of steel is basically removing half of the crowd from the park.
I personally don't see this leaving, they already got rid of Grizzly Run and I'm pretty sure they are not going to be operating the Giant Wheel anymore so they are closing down many but this wasn't one I thought of.
I wouldn't be to sad if it did get removed because I'm way over the height limit, but at the same time when I could ride it, it was a really fun ride so It would still suck
I really don't think they'll remove it. I do however think itll be left SBNO until budget is better. I suspect they'll buy new trains for mind eraser with a repaint/retheme and still a predator gci titan track ginnepig. The place needs some work. Honestly I know six flags doesn't "own" it. But a small investment like trains would surely help with money.
The ride of steel usually breaks down at least 1 time a day. It is sad to think this ride might leave and the straight track is there to make it feel like flying like Superman.
They removed the big wheel and the entire area where moose on the loose and the grizzly run rapids are was closed last year. If they remove this ride, there is no hope for this park. Saddens me, I remember the park in the 80s and 90s when it was spectacular!
Does Ride of Steel had A) Maintenance Issues. B) Standing but the not operating. C) Park wants to ROS out to scrap heap. D) All the above. E) None of the above. #saverideofsteel
That one train is also rather new being bought in the late teens, they sold both there original trains from Intamin, so it is possible to get another new train if they wanted to save the ride if that’s the case
If Ride of Steel is going to be removed (which my guess it would not be removed, & its my fav coaster at the park) that means in my opinion either: 1 - The whole park would be closed/scrapped & never been seen again or 2 - The Park would be another Michigan's Adventure but for Six Flags & without any thrilling attractions.

WOW! I really hope this is not true. This would be so bad for DL. Also I’ll say like you, just close it and let it sit until hopefully sold to a company that wants to invest into the park🤞 Side note, I love the straight section of track. So cool on a hot summer night and this thing just flies over the lake as you get ready for the best airtime moment on the ride!
I know this ride gets a lot of flack for the straight track, but I think the idea it was going for is when Superman is flying straight and low and what that’s supposed to feel like. Having it so close to the water is pretty cool but i think it’d would’ve been cooler to have some quick bank turns instead so much straight. It’d be sad to see it go. I remember Darien back in its hey day, really wish it can return to its former glory but I think it’s past saving now
Sounds like more Six Flags-exclusive executive dysfunction. Given Darien Lake’s unlucky history and Six Flags’ legacy of godawful decision-making, I honestly think this would destroy the theme park; it’d be hard to gather any sort of attendance without this ride. If they close this ride, then eventually, they close Darien Lake, which is a horrifying thought and absolutely unnecessary, but again, this is SIX FLAGS we’re talking about. More flags, more fucked.
I have a hard time believing this rumor. If one train ops was a sign of rides being on the way out, a lot of Six Flags rides would be in danger. I don't think that alone is reason enough to start rumors like this
Well thats a big push to try and get here this year. Had an opportunity in 2020 but of course, the park was closed. Would love to get back to Niagara Falls, we shall see what happens,
I don't see Ride of Steel being retired for maintenance reasons, as it isn't that old, isn't an unreliable design, and parts are readily available for it. However, if Six Flags is considering terminating their management of Darien Lake, I could see them purchasing and removing the ride for reuse at a different Six Flags property. Would it sink the park? Probably not, but it would leave a sizable hole in the lineup.
Superman may be a very popular coaster among enthusiasts. But the typical John Doe tends to be put off by something like that. Intimidator 305 is the most extreme example of this. Extremely popular with enthusiasts but largely ignored by regular park visitors. And these regular park guests are the ones the parks make money off of. These guests eat a lot, buy merchandise, generally spend quite a lot of money and can also be satisfied with less spectacular and therefore cheaper rides. From a financial point of view, it makes perfect sense to part with Superman. With a pier to stroll along the lake, with shops and restaurants, you probably have lower costs and higher income than with an elaborate hypercoaster. Disney is the best example of how you can make a lot of money with something like this. So it's only natural that other parks follow suit.
NOOOOOOOO PLEASE DARIEN LAKE! Ride Of Steel is truly what makes Darien Lake Darien Lake. Permanently closing ROS will be like permanently closing the whole friggin park. Darien Lake, if you want people and money, don’t even THINK about closing Ride of Steel! 😫
I'm my opinion this would be a shocking stupid decision Six Flags Darien Lake would make I believe from what I hear Superman Ride of Steel is one of the best ride there. Six Flags should get the parts that Ride of Steel needs from Intamin. And why is SROS only have one train ???
Ridiculous if is removed. Will basically kill the amusement industry in WNY. Could scrapping it and the cost really be worth that much? Horrible situation overall in the area with Blue Streak gone and now this.
It wouldn't be a big issue if they had a decent coaster line up. But this park has a decent star attraction and then mostly filler (with some genuine garbage.) This would be less a tragedy because of this coaster itself and more because of what it would mean for the park in general.
Never been there, was waiting for a new ride + predator fix. Do you think it's able to be moved or just scraped if it's indeed another intamin maintenance nightmare? 🤔
this is the only ”good” ride at that small little park. It would be a mistake to remove it. I know the layout is pretty flat and boring as all hell but it still gets some attraction.
On a semi-related note I find it hilarious that after Six Flags sold this park the new owner kept Supermans name but removed the word Superman from it...and find it even funnier that Six Flags had never renamed it back to Superman after buying the park. Just that happening shows how no one cares about this park at all.
This is sad but legit. I have a friend that works there and he always knows what's going on with the park before it happens. Hate to see ROS go but DL has been on the decline for a long time.
Honesty so visiting the changes that park is going through, this was also one of my first thoughts haha that would be epic and probably the only acceptable outcome to this being true IMHO.
The ride will not be removed Many facts stated in this document are false and six flags would have control over it being removed What screamscape said about the ownership part is false
This park sucks now, sorry, but none of the owners gave two shits about doing things to increase visitors to the park. They tell you they don't want to invest because it doesn't get enough visitors, but you can't put the cart before the horse! Big new attractions increase visitors, from all over the region and the country, which in turn leads to more revenue which gives you capital to install another attraction and the cycle starts again. A used "new" water slide is a joke and a cop out. If the owners don't grasp all that, I don't know what to say. When I saw they were removing the Giant Wheel without having any plans to replace it or upgrade it, that was the last straw, me and my wife decided to not renew our season passes for our family, after 15 years. It's sad, but I'm tired of giving money to investment firms that don't care about the park, but only about lining their pockets.
The parks a total disaster they just recently closed their rapids ride for no reason and then their giant wheel which was by far the most charming thing about the park, at this point it seems like six flags reacquired it just to destroy it
I think now there will some six flags parks will be endanged of closing: The most likely parks are: Frontier City Darien Lake La Ronde Six Flags America
Technically Six Flags can’t close down Frontier City or Darien Lake, all they do is manage the parks. They don’t own any of the equipment on the properties unless they’ve added minor things like the skyscreamer at Darien. If they closed the park down they could…but all off the rides and attractions would be just sitting there.
Of course their not doing this. Getting rid of the parks tallest, fastest, longest, most thrilling and most popular ride would be suicide for them because all there other roller coasters aren't world class as Taylor mentioned. Besides if this problem with this ride is that it only has one train then just put another one on there.

Was there yesterday and it’s still there and oh my gosh what a ride and turns out new wheels were being installed that’s how it ran so fast
This is my home park, and I can confirm this is the only reason I ever go to this park
I don't think that alone is reason enough to start rumors like this
Dang. I did have plans to visit Darien Lake, but I am Canadian and COVID makes cross border travel difficult.
What, did you hear this from the Dippin Dots guy?
If they remove Ride of Steel then Darien Lake is immediately off my bucket list.
Why would this park even be on your bucket list lmao
@@jordannardolillo5920 I mean it’s there, just not particularly high
They bought a used chassis in 2016 and bad maintenance led to it getting messed up
It just doesn’t make any logical sense. The park is in a rough spot, that’s for sure, but I just don’t see them removing something this monumental.
Damn Buffalo getting two gut punches today 🤣
hahahaha
NOOOOOOOO PLEASE DARIEN LAKE! Ride Of Steel is truly what makes Darien Lake Darien Lake. Permanently closing ROS will be like permanently closing the whole friggin park. Darien Lake, if you want people and money, don’t even THINK about closing Ride of Steel! 😫
I hope there’s still a stand up coaster ANYWHERE in the USA!
There's multiple, Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags over Georgia + Green Lantern at Six Flags Great Adventure. Two right there for you.
@@ThyPandora Carowinds? Six Flags Magic Mountain (Walley World)?
Dang!! I never got a chance to ride it lol
I say SFNE should buy new trains for their superman coaster and give their old ones to darien lake
I'm my opinion this would be a shocking stupid decision Six Flags Darien Lake would make I believe from what I hear Superman Ride of Steel is one of the best ride there. Six Flags should get the parts that Ride of Steel needs from Intamin. And why is SROS only have one train ???
Wow. Guess I better head there this year before it becomes another Geauga Lake/ Six Flags Worlds of Adventure… 😩
this is 70% of why i actually go there if they get rid of it ill lose my mind
Ridiculous if is removed. Will basically kill the amusement industry in WNY. Could scrapping it and the cost really be worth that much? Horrible situation overall in the area with Blue Streak gone and now this.
ya and being a bills fan sucks too
It wouldn't be a big issue if they had a decent coaster line up.
If they tear this out then they MUST replace it with a new coaster or RMC predator. Otherwise people would riot
Been to this park many times on our youth trips, would be a shame to remove an iconic ride!
Weird…. It’s their standout attraction imo and idk why they are removing it
this is the only ”good” ride at that small little park.
Bro this is equivalent to Carowinds removing Fury like why???? Can’t they just buy another train?
Damn. Is this really
Worth the 5hr drive? I do wanna experience ROS if it’s really on the chopping block
This and The BILLS losing are not the one two punch I was looking for this Sunday
When I heard about this I was like: NAW😂
But when coaster studios starts covering this news I'm like:
F
then again, he's also covered V2 at Six Flags Great America closing and Six Flags buying SeaWorld. Neither of these ended up happening.
@@TheCycloneHunter true
This is sad but legit. I have a friend that works there and he always knows what's going on with the park before it happens. Hate to see ROS go but DL has been on the decline for a long time.
damn
weird calling it Ride of Steel and I still put Superman's name in front of it. lol. Damn if they get rid of that the whole damn park should close.
Imagine if Gene Staples purchased Ride of Steel to be built at Niagara amusement park (formerly fantasy island). 👀
Honesty so visiting the changes that park is going through, this was also one of my first thoughts haha that would be epic and probably the only acceptable outcome to this being true IMHO.
The ride will not be removed
Many facts stated in this document are false and six flags would have control over it being removed
What screamscape said about the ownership part is false
Well I guess I am going to Six Flags New England again.
What's wrong with that park? I was just there last summer. It was great.
This can't be happening, I mean I get why they could remove it but the park would be nothing with no star attraction like this.
What's the point of even going to Darien Lake without Ride of Steel?
The parks a total disaster they just recently closed their rapids ride for no reason and then their giant wheel which was by far the most charming thing about the park, at this point it seems like six flags reacquired it just to destroy it
This park would be ruined if this gets removed
That’s definitely the best ride in the park! They really can’t afford to lose it!
I think now there will some six flags parks will be endanged of closing:
The most likely parks are:
Frontier City
Darien Lake
La Ronde
Six Flags America
Technically Six Flags can’t close down Frontier City or Darien Lake, all they do is manage the parks. They don’t own any of the equipment on the properties unless they’ve added minor things like the skyscreamer at Darien. If they closed the park down they could…but all off the rides and attractions would be just sitting there.
This coaster is way too good for them to close it down.
Of course their not doing this. Getting rid of the parks tallest, fastest, longest, most thrilling and most popular ride would be suicide for them because all there other roller coasters aren't world class as Taylor mentioned. Besides if this problem with this ride is that it only has one train then just put another one on there.
It’s also Intamin’s first ever hyper. A piece of hostory
i do not consent
