Phasmophobia was so unexpected to me, I had no clue I'd have so much fun with friends in that game. Edit: My friend going around with the camera going "WHATS UP VLOG SQUAD" will never get old.
My co-op horror was irl. We were doing some work in the Chislehurst Caves which are supposedly haunted to heck and as we were wandering along to the light of our torches we both got hit by this sudden feeling of utter dread and ran in unexplainable panic. Really weird.
It couldve been like a light claustrophobia? (Because phobias are common fears but we tend to think of them only in debilitating terms.) Especially if youre not used to caves and how they basically press down on you. Plus the humidity and air pressure in caves
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 I'd been going there for years and these weren't even very cramped parts so probably not that though it is a good theory. Could have been something like temp/air pressure changes or something though, maybe? On the subject of more cramped areas theres a great, quite long and slightly tiwsty tunnel that's just barely wider than a person and low enough that you have to bend over to go down and I actually found the description of how goblins run in 'The Hobbit' where they're described as running with their knuckles to the ground really useful. Doing that and having my elbows against the walls to detect turns, I could run down it full pelt in total darkness 🙂
@@simonholmes6473 Okay so I thought about it applied some knowledge I got about mines. And these gases can also show up in caves. But unlike mines, caves have a natural ventilation system. However! This is affected by seasonal or time of the day temperature changes. So its possible you guys got a whiff of bad gas and your bodies went: nope Too much carbon dioxide can cause restlessness for example. Or confusion.

One thing I've come to like about Phasmaphobia is that because keeping track of information is so important, someone like me who can't handle jumpscares very well and as such struggle to play directly can sit back and watch other people play while helping keep track of information XD It lets the people playing focus on getting the shit scared out of them, and I get to enjoy the detective work without worrying about having a panic attack. Mert, the scream where you overloaded your mic during the blooper reel nearly made the coronary you were clearly suffering from contagious, and got me too.
Another awesome video!! A couple other fun co-op horrors you may like: FORWARNED (phasmo-like, but you're an archeologist delving into dangeous egyptian tombs), and Ghost Watchers (somewhere between phasmo and demonologist, focuses more on figuring out the ghost and then using a combination of items and actions to capture the entity like a damn pokemon). If you all end up playing some other co-op horrors, mayhaps a part 2 video like this one? Either way, happy I found your channel, keep up the stellar work! :]
Phasmophobia is one of those games I REALLY wanted to like but I prefer solo play & mates just kinda take the fear out of it. Dont get me wrong it was creepy at times but I spent more time just sacrificing my friends because I refuse to be taken by some creepy ghost. And as a myth-nut I found some of the descriptions to feel a bit "nuh" especially combined with the models. An example is the Myling, they were unwanted/unbaptised children who died before they were born, so having creepy vengful ghost children running around would be terrifying. Because of this I have never cought wind of Forsake or Demonologist. So was interested to hear what you had to say. Honestly Forsake feels more like those multiplayer monster hunt games which would make it really good if they built upon the different ghosts & gave them more gimmicks/abilities to mess with the player. Demonologist is clearly riding the Phasmophobia hype train from what I've seen here which is a shame because the whole exercising ghosts part sounds cool, if it wasent so broken. And instead of a having Demon as a Ghostbthey should have lent into the demon side if it, have all the catagories be Demons of folklore & give them better gimmicks. The Boogeyman could be strongest in dark against isolated people & drains sanity with actions for example. This is definetly the one that I feel tried to be flashier but lacks the substance. Great vid as always.
This video is so timely now that The Outlast Trials and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are both now out on early access. Outlast Trials shows great promise, while Texas Chainsaw could use a bit more polish as some off the mechanics could come off as too obtuse for new players.
You should really check out forwarned. Imagine phas in egyptian tombs except its much easier to get evidence, theres more enemies to deal with, and instead of a random hunt you have to avoid the much more unique entities while trying to do a ritual to cleanse them. Its amazing and i will honestly never pull up phas when its an option
Really enjoyed this video. My friends are too scared to play these games and I prefer single player horror games myself so never really got around to exploring these entries.
In Demonologist if you have access to bar lobby, you can walk over to the bar and ask "Hey spirit can I get a beer?" And a bunch of beer bottles and cans will appear on the bar. If you go to the piano and ask to play a song or tune, the piano will play by itself.
Forsakes individual character progression made me have a thought: how cool would it be if each ghost hunter could choose a specific type of ghost hunter to play as? I imagine most abilities would be the same as that of one of the more expensive items, forcing you to decide between pooling all your money towards the actual item or putting all your eggs in one basket and hoping your friend who can hear ghosts doesn’t get killed. Or they could have abilities which mirror those of a ghost, like being marked so the ghost will always hunt them first. Maybe some hunters could even have weirder abilities, like a Charlatan who can fake evidence for you so you can go straight on to guessing the ghost or a Sceptic who causes larger, more identifiable signs to become more frequent but also annoys the ghost?
I think the high prices in Demonologist are an attempt to solve an issue in Phasmo. You can't spend your money on much after you get the hang of things and stocked up on items. I don't mind the prices since me and my friends did pretty well and could always aim for something, got the other lobbies and cat (which becomes fatter every time it eats) but it is just an attempt at solving it and I totally see how it could annoy others. I think it would be better if you couldn't loose your items until level 5-10 (actually i didn't lose my items sometimes. Idk the system behind that.) Me and both of my friends agreed that the second map is actually a better starter map, since its smaller and simpler. I didn't have audio issues, however i always tinker with audio settings before i do any kind of gameplay. I really like the small touches, like the Bloody Mary mirror or the "join cult" deer head. I love Phasmo but we aren't scared of it anymore so it lost it's luster in our eyes for sure.
Have some puzzle that takes some effort and even force you to split up a tiny bit even if it's just into pairs or trios. Then have something pick off people of a group one by one. That shit creates tension. Love the video even tho I cannot play these games myself, I scare too easily and make too mich noise. It upsets everyone I live with and the neighbors
In terms of Co-op horror my favourites are Pacify and Labyrinthine they’re both really fun, though Labyrinthine isn’t a ghost hunting game like the ones in the video or Pacify, I think you guys would enjoy it still. The best co-op horror game WAS Sign of Silence but ruined it with updates 😥 and now it’s just a shell of what it used to be. RIP Sigh of Silence.
Oh no! How did the updates ruin it? Also I've passed these filthy recommendations over to the group chat, thank you for those 😍 And thanks Divine, you've always been super supportive and one of my earliest commenters and I appreciate you a lot
@@MertKayKay aww thanks 🤍 to keep it brief Sign of Silence basically had a moment of fame on YT and to keep the game relevant they started working on an update I don’t know what went wrong along the way but it went from a slightly jank co-op horror game based around sound and being sneaky with pretty terrifying and unique enemies to overwhelming and tedious enemy spam (cultists) which in turn changed it from cool, unique co-op game where you have to work together to escape while being as quiet as possible. to generic horror game 56 with the sound premise no longer being at the forefront
That’s just my opinion, though I’ve seen quite a few people play it after the update and others seem to like it. Plus I haven’t looked at Sign of Silence for like almost 2 years so maybe they fixed it. the one thing that never dropped in quality was the monster designs. They’re all really good.
i miss playing phasmophobia, but after the whole controversy with the devs refusing to remove the admin of their official discord server even after they made racist comments and continuously excused him leaking the nudes of a girl who he was sexting with until AFTER they received massive backlash from the internet and the whole story was spread by gaming news websites like PCGamer, i refuse to ever support these developers again. it's a shame that they chose to protect a racist pig of a man instead of do the right thing until their reputation was on the line, because phasmophobia is a genuinely fun game if anyone wants to know more about this, google phasmophobia developer drama
I've always been of the opinion that Phasmaphobia should have a Danny Phantom mode. If a ghost turns ME into a ghost you can *bet* that I will be throwing ghostly hands.
I will say, Forsaken's models I think are all bought from somewhere. The clown model is one I've seen in several bad indie games and they all look the exact same (including a Backrooms game)
Liniar or story co-op horror is something I feel could strike genius because there is a type of horror that could be well done there: The fear of not being believed. The fear of being crazy. I want a game that makes you and your co-op partner/partners gaslight each other. The same story is being told to you each a little differently. Some truth some lies some real details that were given to some but not others. Scares are in different places or different scares for everyone. If you really did see something different in the text you read, but everyone else didn’t, are you going to believe them or your memory?
Hah, the irony that you're not piss-fucking terrified of phasmophobia while I am is hilarious to me. Like, I'll play horror games no issue, if I drop them it's cuz they're dull as dirt. But phasmophobia's folley artistry is too good and it's uncanny in a way to me, so I genuinely can't play that game properly. Whenever I play with my mates I'm mostly a van hog or item caddy. Edit: People looked at me like I was crazy. That's it. That's the end of that statement. I found demonologist far less frightening than Phasmophobia, in no small amount because the jumpscares were so OTT that I couldn't really take them seriously. Phasmophobia feels like something that could reasonably happen. It keeps its cards close to the chest, too. But Demonologist? it's like a spooky house ride. And that when I got attacked I was caught off-balance and still survived kinda really takes the fear outta the thing.
This is only really relevant because it has to do with one of the games mentioned In General, but every time I hear someone bringing up Phasmophobia, I can't stop my brain from going to this one clip I saw of a friend group playing a round where one of the players had set some tool or other to play the Pepsiman theme when used. Idk who was involved, and as a result idk what terms to search up to possibly find it other than "phasmophobia pepsiman", but it gets me giggling whenever I happen to come across it again hehe. EDIT: Found it immediately searching that exact group of terms, it's uploaded by the channel zinogre, who is unfortunately not one of the original players as they "got it off Tumblr" so hopefully someone's decent enough to attach proper credit at some point. EDIT EDIT: Tumblr user uprising-troll, YT/Twitch channel Motherlock.
While Phasmophobia is arguably the progenitor of this game genre, I'm extremely disappointed that you're regarding it as its gold standard. I found Phas to be terribly unintuitive, buggy, unpolished, and just overall not fun. I would recommend that you take a look into Forewarned, which is basically ancient Egyptian Phasmophobia. It's regularly getting updates with new content, is a lot more intuitive, and is a blast to play with friends. IMO, Forewarned is the gold standard for this genre, and what every game of this type should aim to be. My only gripe with Forewarned is that the banishment rituals feel a bit anticlimactic, but that aside, it's a wonderful time. Give it a whirl, let us know what you think!
Worth mentioning that the Phasmophobia developers covered up a sex crime and the community has a toxicity problem. Not sure about either of the other games, though.
Personally I never liked the idea of Multiplayer or Co-Op in Horror Games. Horror Games are way better when experienced alone. The fear is in the isolation.
She plays multiplayer too? 10/10, would date if she were my WoW healer. That was a joke, because Mert should NEVER EVER EVER EVER play World of Warcraft, because even classic would destroy her for achievement hunting.
I tried WoW at my cousin's house when I was a kid, and when I got home I begged my dad to let me have it. And he was like "No, because I know you, and you'll never leave the house again" - I was angry with him for it at the time, but as an adult I definitely understand

Sage advice from yourself today Luke: "you don't need to be fast, you just need to be faster than your friends"
Babe wake up, new mertkaykay content dropped!
Babe wake up, Mothman is here. He wants my lamps
What!! I love that
Forsakes individual character progression made me have a thought: how cool would it be if each ghost hunter could choose a specific type of ghost hunter to play as?
Idk the system behind that.)
Me and both of my friends agreed that the second map is actually a better starter map, since its smaller and simpler.
Yes I can certainly believe that! And I agree: "item insurance" up to level 10 would have smoothed the initial few hours so nicely
Never played any of this game but watched the whole thing because of you. Need to try Phasmophobia.
Great video, cheers!
I agree! Often we'd run around clumped together, I can only imagine the pit in my stomach if I realised we all needed to split up
I usually don’t play co op games but these seem fun.
Also, great video it seems a bit redundant to say, but this was a really great video especially with it’s format. Thanks again Mert
Oh no! How did the updates ruin it? Also I've passed these filthy recommendations over to the group chat, thank you for those 😍
And thanks Divine, you've always been super supportive and one of my earliest commenters and I appreciate you a lot
Can’t wait to see you try outlast trials
👀
If I got humpscared . You know what fuck whatever I was about to say, I'm satisfied with this typo. Hats off.
Humpscared 😭
Excellent video as always. No idea how I managed to guess exactly which three horror games you were gonna pick 😂😂😂
We are clearly so in tune 🥹
i miss playing phasmophobia, but after the whole controversy with the devs refusing to remove the admin of their official discord server even after they made racist comments and continuously excused him leaking the nudes of a girl who he was sexting with until AFTER they received massive backlash from the internet and the whole story was spread by gaming news websites like PCGamer, i refuse to ever support these developers again. it's a shame that they chose to protect a racist pig of a man instead of do the right thing until their reputation was on the line, because phasmophobia is a genuinely fun game
if anyone wants to know more about this, google phasmophobia developer drama
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :'(
Woah that’s genuinely disappointing cause I really like Phasmophobia 😭
Wooooo! 3 day span let gooo! Stay safe everyone
You too Ben 💕
I've always been of the opinion that Phasmaphobia should have a Danny Phantom mode.
If a ghost turns ME into a ghost you can *bet* that I will be throwing ghostly hands.
i love phasmo! I def need friends to play with though - i usually play single player...
I will say, Forsaken's models I think are all bought from somewhere. The clown model is one I've seen in several bad indie games and they all look the exact same (including a Backrooms game)
That was a supremely enjoyable video.
Outlast: Trials looks like promising fun.
"it's like a Wetherspoons Pizza" I hear, as I'm sitting in 'spoons, contemplating lunch over a game of Final Fantasy 7. What are the odds?
It's a sign!
THE V A P E. im fucking dying.

You have to try the indie game"loch ness". it's basically phasmophobia mixed with Scottish Jaws
Thank you Joe! That's going in the group chat
Perhaps Devour and Ghost Watchers might be up this same alley?
Thank you 😍😍😍 the group chat has been informed

Hey MertKayKay love ur content just wondered if u will ever return to twitch
One day you will see my return
@@MertKayKay well I can't wait keep up the great content
"Why is a radio six thousand dollars?" Audiophiles: 😅💦
I FORGOT THIS WAS UPLOADED IM HERE SO LATE ;-;-;-;
EDIT EDIT: Tumblr user uprising-troll, YT/Twitch channel Motherlock.
single frame of "show the tablet" spotted
Fingy Pees. Actually really nice acro.
We love an Abrev 😘
You should try to play Forewarned
I feel like you would appreciate Ghost Exorcism Inc and Remnant Records.
Vaping on mic is a horror already
Which of these came first, and which are the copies?
Forewarned is also great, honestly a bit better than imo
Can you tell what a ghost it by its model?
Not in Phasmo and Demonologist because it would be too easy!
Phew we are getting spoiled with these uploads LMAOOO
13:22 why would you grab a single use item?
1:20:38 Mugiwara
I dont play co op horror games I do however play lethal company but only with my friends
Does every ghost type have the same looking hands
As a warning; Demonologist doesn't load on linux
Came for a game design study, stayed for the montage.
I keep coming back for both.
🥹 welcome back
While Phasmophobia is arguably the progenitor of this game genre, I'm extremely disappointed that you're regarding it as its gold standard.
Thanks for the recommendation! I have notified the group chat :D Time to have my standards lifted
@@MertKayKay Anticipation!
So the ghost can only haunt one room?
It leaves its evidence in one room but haunts the whole place!
Riddle me this, if I didn’t love your nasally teenage boy voice would I be watching an hour and 42 minute long video of it in its entirety?

@@MertKayKay , even if you limited your achievement hunting, you'd definitely never leave the house again.
Absolutely, I know my weaknesses. I observe WoW from afar
