Some seem confused about shanks not needing the papers. He already has them and he also said earlier that kid can either choose to leave the poneglyphs and leave safely or they would fight. It was too late for his crew to hand them back in exchange for mercy.
He takes the papers in the manga. For whatever reason the animators decided not to show it.

"Destroyed" was such a weak word to use in that ending imo. I don't know if it was changed in the manga but I remember reading the phrase "completely, and utterly annihilated" and it was more impactful for me. Nevertheless, that animation was more than enough to compensate.

Im glad the anime cleared this up a bit. From the manga we couldnt really tell how long Shanks future sight could see. This seems to be about 10 to 20 seconds.
