I honestly have so many plants in a west/southwest window and they handle the direct light so well! Maybe there’s an explanation but just normal plants such as monsteras, philos, Hoyas etc have never burned from the light!
Do you live in Arizona? I think this video is out of abundance of caution for northern hemisphere environments. Also I'm sure lots of plants are able to acclimate to the southern window with ease. But newbies should be warned
Same here! I have tradescantia, cacti, and ficus right on a southern windowsill and most other genuses on shelves or stands pressed up against the wall of the window if that makes sense and I’ve never had anything burn! (Would recommend acclimating them to this light but I never have lol)
You’re are so right about the snake plant! I had one that i overwatered and thought it was done. But i took it and put it in water and right in a west facing window and it’s pushing out 4, yes, FOUR, new leaves! Put your snake plants in higher light if you want quicker growth! #snakeplantsarelowlighttolerantatbest 😂
I have screens on my south facing window and maybe that's the difference, but I have a lot of my syngoniums in my south facing window as well as a hayworthia, a sansevaria, adansonii, scindapsis exotica, aglaonema, raphidifora tetrasperma and a few more I can't remember right now. And they are all doing well. I even have my Monstera Albo there as well.
Ficus are also super good plants for south windows bc they love light! I keep mine outside for the summer and it gets ~5-6 hours of morning/ bright indirect mid day sun and she’s thriving!
I have snake plants on my front porch that is east/sout facing. They lived through 115 heat!! They have soo many pups! Our bedroom is south facing and we have a ton of snake plants in there.. as well as our bathroom is south and west facing and my Hoyas love it!!!
Another tip for plant in Southern window is Hibiscus! Since I put mine there it is just living its best life, it feels like it´s in the absolute perfect conditions there and it has such beautiful flowers! 🌸
For sunny spots with indirect sun I'd recommend echeveria, they're very pretty and in a myriad of colour when stressed under strong light. For colour variety and shapes, do consider echeveria 😉
I only have south-facing (very slightly SE) windows for my plants and they're all growing like crazy. I am pretty lucky to have a big maple outside, but they get several hours of direct sunlight in the morning. Some of the more basic/hardy hoya, a couple nepenthes, philodendron brasil and micans, monstera borsigiana, euphorbia trigona, a fishbone cactus, a couple types of succulents, and a few snakeplants. And a raven zz.
I love ❤️ love those euphorias!!!! I have green and red ones on my front porch as well as the ghost cactus and haworthia and tons of different types of jade etc!!!!
Thank you for this video!! I currently only have South facing windows in my apartment (and I'm going to move to a new in a few weeks that also only has South facing windows 😅)
Hi kat was wondering, if u ever would repot ur string of pearls could u film doing that? Cus i struggled so much doing mine and it will need repotting again soon 😬😬💚💚
Hey guys I have a plant question... I took a monstera cutting, but I cut above the node on the larger leaf. There is a smaller leaf attached to it (just starting to unfurl) that has a node/aerial root on it. Will it still grow or does there need to be a node on the larger leaf for the cutting to work? If anyone has experience with this please let me know :)
hi caroline! you need a node to root the plant so you can still root the cutting from the newer node. i recommend cutting below that node and rooting it that way. a little more risky with newer growth, but not impossible :)
@@GoodandPlanty Oof, that's no good! Is yours variegated or just green? I've got a green one and I've had mine in south facing light the last 5 years. I *tried* to move him to a west facing window last winter- he flipped out and started dropping leaves like crazy. Moved him back and he was fine. Won't do that again lol!
Can you talk more about what to expect from the different direction of light (ie due west facing windows in northern hemisphere) because I have only west facing and I just don’t understand how it’s different than east facing, isn’t it just morning light vs evening light? Does it even matter?
Different windows get different amounts of sun in terms of rays/strength AND time/duration! Most east windows in the United States/Canada are morning light which is the second lightest amount of light, after north facing. Morning sun is usually not as harsh and at it’s peak only lasts a few hours in the morning, but still a nice place for low light/ medium light plants if placed near it. North facing are usually not the BEST bc the sun is BEHIND those windows throughout most of the day facing south windows, but can still be okay for low light plants, then south facing is the strongest bc the sun shines through the majority of the day and therefore the longest and most strongest points of the day (noon-afternoon), then west facing is evening sun which is still pretty strong sun (second best), but it just lasts a shorter amount of time at its brightest bc it’s usually only evening hours, but most of my plants are on/near west facing windows and they LOVE it (: Hope that made sense 🥲
I’m a new sub and still going through your videos! Do you have one that helps you decide what patio plants are best for your climate (I’m in so cal and get no snow)? Thanks!! This video is amazing! My best windows are east and south facing so good to know 😄😄
If anyone is interested in getting a Led grow light. I highly recommend photontek leds you can use coupon code Bush and get 10% off I have two leds from photontek lighting and my plants are bigger and healthier than ever.
I recently got a syngonium fantasy from a big box store and brown spots have appeared on some of the variegated areas. It’s in a southern window Yeah, I think I burned it…. 😭😭😭
I honestly have so many plants in a west/southwest window and they handle the direct light so well! Maybe there’s an explanation but just normal plants such as monsteras, philos, Hoyas etc have never burned from the light!
I agree! Same here. Mine seem to also love all the bright light with some direct sun. 😊
Do you live in Arizona? I think this video is out of abundance of caution for northern hemisphere environments. Also I'm sure lots of plants are able to acclimate to the southern window with ease. But newbies should be warned
I live in Ireland so even in the height of our summer the light isn't strong enough in the south/west windows to burn the leaves 😂
Same here! I have tradescantia, cacti, and ficus right on a southern windowsill and most other genuses on shelves or stands pressed up against the wall of the window if that makes sense and I’ve never had anything burn! (Would recommend acclimating them to this light but I never have lol)
I think lower light is more dangerous than high light

Yes screens block a lot of the sun. Reptile owners know this very well.
Oh thank Goodness you posted! I was going crazy looking for a planty video!
Also... does anyone else say the entire intro with her? Just me?
perfect timing 😌 and AWWW!

Hey Kat! Can you do a video on how to acclimate plants to higher lighting conditions?
I love ❤️ love those euphorias!!!! I have green and red ones on my front porch as well as the ghost cactus and haworthia and tons of different types of jade etc!!!!

Hiiiiiiiii, I get so excited for your videos I'm in Australia so I stay up late just to see them early! Have a good day :)
this is soooo sweet! hope you have a great night 🥺
Yay u posted I forgot it was Tuesday so was a great surprise 😃 this will be perfect for me cus I have south facing windows too💚
Ponytail palms are another great south facing window plant. My Zebrina Transcantina is doing well there too.
Every time you show that black goldfish plant I want one 😂
you should get one 🤓
The areas of my house I can put plants primarily has southwest windows (leans more towards south) so this is helpful
Hi kat was wondering, if u ever would repot ur string of pearls could u film doing that? Cus i struggled so much doing mine and it will need repotting again soon 😬😬💚💚
I have large southwest windows and Monstera Deliciosa is loving life in it. So is Hoya Pubicalyx. I am seeing if Hoya Curtisii will like it too.
This was super helpful, thank you!! :)
Awesome and very informative video I wonder if shade Screen or a shading plant can be helpful behind certain plants thank you keep up the great videos
Some orchids. I have insane amounts of light … southern exposure + I’m right on the water + huge windows … they’re doing just fine 🤷🏻♀️
My zebra haworthia didn't like increased light. Took it back from window and much happier crazy

Pls do one for north facing window!!
ok 🤓
@@GoodandPlanty Yay!!!
Awesome video...love watching your video, so much of valuable information. Can you do a similar one for northern facing window.
This was really helpful! Thank you!
Weird , my strings almost died is the south facing windows last winter. Maybe Toronto gets less sun than wherever you are?
I have the same haworthia -- it's so cute and definitely one of my favourites! :)
house tourrrrrrr
Yayyyy you posted 💓🤗
💓💓💓
Another to add- schefflera also love the intense sunlight! :)
i was going to add this bc mine is in southern exposure but she’s burning and that wasn’t gonna look convincing 😅

ficus tineke and burgandy ficus and handle my south window rlly well and started growing very fast!!
that's another great one! my burgundy has also responded well to southern exposure
I have my snake plant and string of hearts in a south facing window 💚
I bought a roll of window tint off Amazon for my window! Not as dramatic as planting a tree but still a lil Boujee lol
Very good video thank you for sharing.

I have more east and west windows. Also literally one north and one south. The south is in my bedroom but no plants there. 😬
My hoya Obavata has 3 leaves that burnt on my south facing window.
That's a Hahnii, Robusta types have long leaves like Trifasciata's, not short rosettes. I think you got sold it mislabelled.
I recently got a syngonium fantasy from a big box store and brown spots have appeared on some of the variegated areas. It’s in a southern window
Yeah, I think I burned it….
😭😭😭
My south facing window doesn’t let me put plants near it, it growls at me and tries to bite me…. Help
💚💚
I only have east and west windows.....
New way to be petty if you're upset with your neighbor who is also into plants: plant a tree in the way of their best window
I do adore you.. you seem very sultry 🤷♀️ or maybe even.. high 🤷♀️.. sorry but that’s kinda how it seems.. I’m sure you’re not but ..
On TikTok not on here!! Like a different persona.. idk maybe I’m wrong but..
