- With the Overhaul Arc of the My Hero Academia anime now over and it moving into the second half of season 4, I felt now was the moment to grind out this tribute video to Kai Chisaki (Overhaul) himself. An amazing antagonist, worthy and deserving of his own arc, and excellently portrayed by the very talented Kellen Goff in the English dub. I will miss Overhaul as a character, but I'm at least confident that I can reflect on this video and everything I put into it as the series moves forward.

Hey guys. Thanks for checking out the video. I just want to make something clear- Overhaul is a narcissistic sociopath. People like him DO exist in this world and they are NOT people that we should sympathise with. They don’t experience emotions or connections like we do, but us ‘normal’ people tend to project OUR feelings onto them and sympathise with them, which is exactly what they use.
Overhaul clearly fits the criteria. All of his connections with other people, without exception, are based on using and manipulating people. He shows no regard for other people’s emotions or opinions and clearly lacks any empathy or understanding of how normal people think/feel. Even his relationship with his adopted father is shallow.
That being said, I decided to challenge myself and create this video from Overhaul’s perspective- trying to get across the isolation he feels from humanity and his frustration that people can’t ‘understand’ his way of thinking. This video was made from HIS way of looking at things- hence why it tries to portray him as a sympathetic character. But I myself DO NOT feel that kind of sympathy for Overhaul, nor do I encourage anyone to try and empathise with people like Overhaul in the real world. Doing so is very dangerous.
It’s all good liking a fictional character (I think Overhaul’s a great character), but be careful about projecting your own feelings onto people like Overhaul. You cannot understand people like him and they cannot understand you. The world can be a scary place. Stay safe guys 💙

To be honest I'm more of a "Overhaul person" but not that much.
Actually it's really hard for people to know what other persons feelings are.
For example a lot of people who know me say that I'm a sick person who only hurts others and does not care about ANYTHING. But they don't understand how I truly feel and why I "hurt others" as they said.

That completely makes sense and our actions often just reflect what we’re dealing with inside. That being said, true narcissists like Overhaul aren’t this way. They genuinely can’t see the damage they cause nor do they even see it as a problem.
The reason I posted this comment is because I see too many people sympathising with and excusing Overhaul’s behaviour and, although he’s a fictional character, I worry about them falling into the trap of real-world versions of him 😅

Our actions can be seen as something bad. But to achieve our goal (if someone has one) we need to think about consequences first.

We all have narcissistic traits but true narcissists (those with narcissistic personality disorder) are dangerous. The way they present Overhaul talking to Eri and the ideas and doubts he puts into her mind and the way he excuses and justifies his actions are all very realistic and certainly representative of real narcissistic abuse and grooming. It actually shook me the first time I watched it. That’s why I feel a little uncomfortable with how some people talk about Overhaul and I worry about them if they were to encounter a real-life version of him 🤷🏻♂️
Most Sociopaths are Non Violent. Even if they have something to gain they rarely use violence to obtain it. Also even sociopaths can live by a code meaning they can use other peoples morals as a sort of guide for better or for worse. Now if they’ve gone off the deep end like Edward Kemper that’s a different story but don’t assume that Sociopaths are bloodthirsty monsters cause they’re not. Btw I love the asmv.

@@shadykoithefishofthepond9407 he lost not onlyhis power, but the way to cure his father figure, he was the one who put him in that coma, and when he was done with his plan, he was going to take him apart and put him back together so he'd be able to wake up, and now he can't do that, so he lost another family
Chisaki has such a twisted mind, but thats part of the reason he was such a great villain, and his style/quirk made him such a bad-ass villain in the show
And lets be fair deku should not jave been able to defeat him the dude could destroy anything
@@devastatorgaming442 it was only thanks to eri that he was able to defeat overhaul, but even then i felt like she was too young to have been able to control her ability as good as she did, but maybe she learned through the events that lead to the fight
Eri wasn’t controlling her quirk at all- it was going berserk and out of her control. It was Deku who was smart enough to figure out how to make use of her power, by smashing up and damaging his own body faster than she could rewind him.
We see in the fight that Eri’s power kept getting stronger so Deku had to move faster and cause himself more injuries. By the end of the fight, Eri was in danger of rewinding Deku to nothing but Aizawa managed to erase her quirk and stop her. Overhaul mentioned that the only way he has found to stop her was to use his quirk to break her apart and put her back together again.
So, really, all of the credit goes to Deku for that one. He figured out a way to use Eri’s out-of-control power to his advantage and came up with an effective strategy right on the spot. I’m not his biggest fan, but Deku deserves that win.
What he says “ Why doesn’t anyone see the big picture” makes me realize he was trying to do right but just went the wrong route with it
Now I understand that overhaul was an extremely messed up and evil person, like he has to be one of the most messed up people on the show, and his actions only further drive him deeper into the hole. But his fate makes me feel like he never deserved it. He lost his father figure, granted he was the one who did it, but still, he just wanted to make him proud, and went to well beyond extreme measures in order to pay him back. And right when he was able to do it, he was shot down and taken. And then even if he escaped, shigaraki took away his only means of restoring the one person who truly cared for him, but now he is left. He is alone and left to rot away in prison, with no hope of ever having any joy other than his eventual death coming to free him from the hellish nightmare that is his fate

Overhaul hurt 1 child and a couple people. Other villains Harmed and killed hundreds of people, and yet we never mention those now do we?

As horrible of a person he is I actually really like Chisaki. He's one of those villains you love to hate.
Also, he has somewhat understandable reasons for doing what he did because of his past and how scary his quirk is. I hope we'll get to see more of him. Maybe redemption route?
I don't exactly like Chisaki.. what he did was horrible. But when the LOV took away both of his arms Chisaki only thought about was his father figure because instead of thinking that he will never be able to use his quirk again he thought that now without my quirk I won't be able to bring him back. That literally choked me up..

The thing that makes a great villain is how much the fanbase hate him for his actions, if we're disgusted by Overhauls actions that means he's a good villain.
Really good video, chisaki is such a horrible person but still I think there might be something in him that wants to create a better place for everyone including the Yakuza, a world without quirks would be a saver one, still there is no excuse for being a heartless radical monster to everyone to accomplish that

In his eyes maybe, but do you honestly think that he would have erased his or his people's quirks, on top of that,his true goal was to put organized crime back in power. As all might said: "you villains always try to make your actions sound noble" perhaps he did want to create a better world, but better doesn't always mean better for everybody.
And this is why I have so much sympathy for villains. And ARGH-

If we ever get a Prison Break Arc in the future I hope we see more of Overhaul but in a different matter...
I would love to see how after such a long time to think about what he's done to others and to a little girl he will slowly understand what the normal human emotion and empathy are. I understand he is a dangerously active narcissist and sociopath and is highly out there emotionally, however I just get the "feeling" the following events would happen is Chisaki is released in some way.
1.- Overhaul will regain his quirk through his legs (as stated in the Ultra Analysis Handbook)
2.- Overhaul will not bring his father back since now he wants to make things right
3.- He will kidnap Eri
4.- Instead of blowing her up and extracting her blood Overhaul will try and teach Eri how to control her power through the ways his quirk is used, why you may ask? Cause with Eri's quirk she can revert the damage done by the quirk killing bullets, plus imagine if Eri could rewind Shigaraki to when he was a child, then the heroes could help Shigaraki before he looses his way (same with all the other villains giving everyone a second chance)
5.- give Eri back and turn himself in
(The next part is a big if)
6.- the police will require Overhaul's strength to defeat Shigaraki and the rest of the enemies.
7.- hopefully by the end Overhaul will come to an understanding of human emotion or at least try to understand what others feel and send him on the path his dad layed out for him.
And finally...8
He will bring his father back from the coma to be welcomed with his father's arms in the form of a hug to where then Overhaul becomes the true next leader of the Yakuza
I know this theory seems really off and to Steven Universe kind of redemption arc for such a dangerous man...but it's just me trying to be as positive as I could be.
It’s a very cool theory.
I’m not really sure if Overhaul would play any active role in the future of the story. I feel like his arc is kinda over and he’s served his purpose. He was meant to be a superior version of Shigaraki that needed to be overcome- the same way Mirio was a superior version of Deku to be overcome. He’s served that purpose and doesn’t really have much more to do now that the story has reached this point.
I expect he’ll make some kinda cameo appearance but I’m not sure what more there is for him than that. Shigaraki is stepping up- Overhaul was a stepping stone.
We’ll see but I personally don’t want Overhaul or All For One (as much as I like them) swooping in and taking over. They had their moment. It’s Shigaraki’s time.
@@Kaiser_MHA true all this build up would make all of Shigaraki's hard fought progress be worthless. But I imagine if AFO escapes he'll be resorted to sitting in a chair for the rest of his life as his pupil decays society as a whole...maybe another theory could be that when Stain and Chisaki get out they will see the child they once knew turn into a all powerful warlord and will pledge their loyalty to Shigaraki (Stain seeing Shigaraki has conviction and Overhaul that Shigaraki has a well thought plan and the ability to handle an army of individuals. Theories are everywhere at this point and honestly I really just want to see more growth on the villains side as much as the hero side for a wonderful Avengers Endgame type of collision.

Speaking of Stain- I was convinced that his role in the story was completely over and finished and I was actually really disappointed with his ending. Ironically, my biggest complaint was that he and All Might never got to meet and then, low and behold, a few chapters ago it was mentioned that All Might had planned to visit him in prison but it had to be delayed. I wonder if that was just a throwaway mention or if the two of them will finally meet. Of course, the problem with Stain reappearing in the story is that he’s just too weak to actually play a role in the upcoming war- his fighting style and quirk are suited to assassination, not warfare. He’d be pretty useless in the current situation.
See, I’m stuck in two minds. I really do wanna see some of these characters again because of how much I enjoyed them, but I also want Shigaraki to remain the focus now. I don’t want Stain and Overhaul to be disrespected by becoming subordinates, but I don’t want them to take over either 😅

Stain: gave Shigaraki the conviction to recruit members like Toga, Dabi, Twice, etc.
Overhaul: The quirk erasing bullet that will have its toll on society if Shigaraki can replicate it.

I understand that what Overhaul did was really bad, and wrong on all sorts of levels. But when the league took his arms, I felt legitimately sad, because that's taking his quirk. Love this video, as it shows things from Overhaul's perspective.

I like his character a lot but I don’t want him to appear again, other than maybe a cameo. I don’t want him to be a main part of the plot again.
I feel like there’s nothing left for him to do. He served his purpose as an obstacle for Shigaraki to overcome. His plan is on such a small scale compared to what’s going on now and a redemption arc for him wouldn’t make any sense at all given that’s he a completely uncaring narcissist. I feel like, if he was shoe-horned back into the story, it would cheapen his character.

This arc kinda sucked. They brought back characters like Muscular, Overhaul, etc. and made it look like they were gonna do something and then nope- absolutely nothing. Overhaul may reappear but I’m still salty they brought back Muscular for one damn chapter and did nothing with his character. And Overhaul appeared as a side character in one chapter and then disappeared again…

Me: I mean he isn’t that wrong. Quirks are the cause of most of the villains becoming villains and some hero’s (like endeavour) only care about being the best but without quirks this wouldn’t be happening.
I guess the main irony is a narcissistic sociopath who uses and abuses everyone around him and runs an illegal underground market that revolves around and profits off said abuse, whilst physically and emotionally torturing a little girl trying to take the moral high ground and call everyone else ‘sick’ 😂

The thing that makes me love his character so much is how much he believes that what he's doing is for something good. He has so much conviction. He was honestly the best villain. It'd be great to see a redemption arc. I can't help but feel bad for him when he realised he can't fix his pops anymore.

Excellent work. Kai was a monster but I understand why he did it. He wanted to repay the boss for taking him in abd giving him a purpose. I love how you keep playing the Boss's words throughout the video as they keep repeating in Kai's head over and over. It does a great job highlighting the sympathetic side of him, despite his action.

I wanted to have the Boss echoing in his head over and over as Overhaul gets more and more frustrated that people can’t see things from his point of view. It was to try and demonstrate his growing frustration, his isolation from those around him, and a constant reminder to him that people see him as a monster.
Chisaki was a pretty cool character. He had the most solid plan compared to the rest of the villains that we had seen in the story so far. He had ambition and when he found the boss in his way he decided to take matters into his own hands. He was willing to use all pawns necessary for his cause but in the end it was all for nothing as he couldn't win and he couldn't even save the boss anymore after losing his hands. Trully a tragic character of the misunderstood type. I also relate to his "don't touch me" attitude and found it as a cool little quirky characteristic for him. Overall he's one of the better characters so far. He also gave us one of the best quotes "a goal without a plan is just a wish" which I appreciate.

but i have a crush on overhaul....and this makes me like him more cuz i understand how it feels to be shut away from people, i understand how it feels to feel like nobody understands you....no im not a crazy person, and no i dont abuse children, but hes been called demon and it hurts to be called things like that, when people shut you out and push you away, you feel like your worthless and like you dont deserve anything. The whole thing is a little unclear. Overhaul tends to contradict himself quite a few times (unsurprising for a sociopathic narcissist with a totally distorted world-view.)
People like to point to Overhaul’s ‘plan’ of ridding the world of quirks and turning humanity back to normal which would create a more peaceful world. The issue with that is that Overhaul’s actions and plan as it is presented to us does not support that. Overhaul may be producing quirk-eliminating drugs, but he was also producing quirk-restoring drugs which he planned to sell to opposing sides in order to make money and gain monopoly of the market, thus restoring the Yakuza to power.
As long as Overhaul planned to run such a market, his mentions of ridding the world of quirks would not happen since it would be bad for his business if all quirks were gone. He’d have nothing to sell. Not only that, but there’s be no way for him to eliminate the quirks of almost 7 billion people on the planet, plus their future offspring. It seems that Overhaul mentioning turning humanity back to normal was just a fleeting or empty thought, not his actual plan.
Considering his narcissistic nature, it’s safe to assume that Overhaul would be happy carrying out any plan as long as it allowed him to control things as he saw fit and manipulate others by forcing his way of thinking on them. That is at the very core of his character. Overhaul never had good intentions.

I looked back on this video around a week ago, and I realize, somewhere in my mind, I idolize chisaki. Now I don’t strive to abuse little children, I mean I understand his breaking relationship with the world and his father, albeit he isn’t related to his but I’m related to mine. I can relate to his loss of faith in society, I’ve gone through a lot since I first saw Overhaul,and the time passed until now, my life hasn’t gone the best. And now I see that in order to cope, I turned toward mha, and other anime. I’m doing so, I grew fond of the show, and began to understand the characters more deeply, and the character I related to the most was- Overhaul. It may seem bad, but he was that character. I LOVE his character. From his motives, his quirk, his design, down to just his cold and uncaring persona, I saw it and thought “now THAT is a villain.” And slowly, as I study this person, I start to piece together the idea that, me and him are very similar. We both lack a true connection with parental figures, both view parts of our modern world as disease that need to be cured, he vowed quirks this way while I view the advancement of convenient technology in this light. We both hate being touched, as he is a mysophobe or germophobe, while I am haptophobic. Hell, my voice even sounds extremely similar to Kai’s. It clicked in my brain, I am the modern day overhaul, and I don’t hate it one bit
Honestly with his power he could have become the most powerful person in the world. Imagine the amount of money and power a person that could basically fix anything wrong with your body with the touch of his hands could gain.
Alternate world where Overhaul just grows up to be the world’s greatest doctor- genuinely helping and curing people with the touch of a hand 😅
This is so amazing, stunning. Thank you so much for making this, it actually made me tear up to find someone who actually understands the way I feel about Overhaul. Usually I get hated on for liking him.
He’s a horrible person but a really good and compelling character. There are many reasons to like him as a character. I made another video to show off his more malicious side and his abuse of Eri. This video, however, was all about exploring the ‘human’ side of Overhaul and seeing things from his perspective. Thank you!
The way Pops found Chisaki as a boy, alone, covered in filth and I imagine he was hungry, always made me feel as if we were missing something from his past. He wanted more than anything to replay the man who saved him and rebuliding the Shie Hassaikai's former glory and reputation along with returning people quirkless. Might have saved so many lives who were eventually lost, but at the end of the day, he still choose the darkest route and solution.
Could you imagine what he could have done with his quirk, if he was a doctor?! Of course, I'm not saying what he did was justified by any means.
I hope he returns again. Definitely, my favorite villain in MHA

great AMV, I enjoyed it, overhaul is one of most horrible and evil bnha villians, he had story simmilar to tomura, abused by parent and then when completely alone took in by boss of criminal organization, both took care of them like their own sons, just that tomura was raised by number one villian and was formed in villian, while chisaki's boss wasn't evil,both wanted to reshape world, one without quirks, one without heroes (I think that was original tomura's goal), but difference was beside their care tackers being two totaly different people, one boss of small organization, other boss of villian organzitation, overhaul used fear and manipulation to obtain shie hissaki members and even puted his boss in coma for not understanding his plan, tomura on other side was supported by AFO, and tomura didn't use neither fear or manipulation, he was guy who wanted to kill All Might and also members of LoV are his friends, he was also influenced by stain, chisaki and possibly re destro also and became better villian, tomura ended up becoming leader of powerful villian organisation without even looking for members and they are all loyal, while kai looked for members ,which are simply scared of him and aren't loyal and ended up making whole organization fall, got imprisoned and lost his quirk, he lacked influence by some villian, tomura learned from overhaul that if you are ambitious and do everything to full fill your goal, it will only make you fall,tho both are my favourite characters, you could also make amv about stain and tomura solo, and maybe re destro once meta liberation arc gets animated (possibly season 5)

Unpopular opinion: overhaul is the best villain, he is the most realistic villain. Stuff like this happens in the real world, not saying i feel sympathy for him, I really don’t, but I do think he is one of the most interesting characters in the series.
Agreed! People can appreciate a character without justifying or sympathising with them. And I agree that he is incredibly realistic. Don’t know if you’ve seen it but I did a video analysing the character since I encountered a person just like him in foster care 😊

Chisaki is kinda my favorite villain tbh. He's a bad person but i understand his goals and why he wanted to achieve them, thats understandable. however he could've figured out a different way that wouldn't involve hurting anyone like he did Eri :\ hes not a terrible person for what he wanted to accomplish/why but bc of how he tried to go through with it.

This is just what I think about Overhaul, you can respond with your own opinions if you want, just please be nice about it. Also, this might be long to read, so feel free to skip if you like.
I'm pretty sure Overhaul was born a sociopathic narcissist, and that he'll never really be a good person. I know a narcissist when I meet one because a good amount of people in my life are narcissists. So I can see all the signs of him being narcissistic for sure, and the way he acts only proves it more. One sign of someone being a narcissist is guilt-tripping, like making someone feel bad just so they can get what they want. Similar to how he guilt-tripped Eri into coming back, "Someone else is about to die because of you! Eri!". And she came back because of that because she thought it was her fault when it really was just him manipulating her into coming back to him. He's also a sociopath because sometimes, sociopaths like to manipulate, lie to, and cheat others. They like to hurt them with no disregard or regret afterwards, they just do it for any reason that they may have. And with that, being born like that, he only dug himself deeper into it. And I'm starting to think maybe he even created himself a whole different persona based off of that, a sociopathic narcissist that will manipulate, hurt, or kill anyone just to reach his goals. He hates being called Chisaki, as when Mirio called him Chisaki, he responded with "That's not my name anymore!". So I think in a way, he hated Kai Chisaki. He hated that name, and he didn't want to be compared to the humans around him, the filthy sick humans that didn't seem to understand. The only thing tying him in comparison to humanity was his name, and he hated that. So he changed himself, making a whole persona of himself as a monster, calling himself "Overhaul" so he couldn't be compared to humanity in any way at all. It was like he erased the memory of Kai Chisaki, and now the only thing that exists is Overhaul. And when he gets called "Chisaki", it enrages him because he doesn't want to be compared to humanity in any way, shape, or form. That's just what I think, personally. He refuses to see himself as a normal human being and will turn himself into a monster worse than he already is just so he can avoid being compared to the humans all around him. He'd rather be a monster than be like the sick humans around him, and he won't feel bad about it. That's personally what I think, and anyone can reply if they have something to say about this. Just be civil about it, and be honest with your opinions. Thank you if you actually read this.
Just a simple insight....altho he might hv been born as a narcissist.....but as u mentioned tht he is a sociopath nd the main factor of sociopaths is tht they r not born as sociopaths......sociopaths are made by their environment nd people close to thm.....so sociopaths r created owing to different negative experiences nd ultimately leading to a twisted approach towards things
