no it won't. the top/lid is open to allow fresh air in and out. the plastic is only to preserve the wood longer. if you can use other materials in the construction of the pen which won't disintegrate easily, then the plastic becomes unnecessary.
Very detailed information and I subscribed immediately. Very quickly...did you steam the soil on fire before putting it in the pen or not? Is it a must to steam the soil? I just started rearing about 500 snails I picked in my farm last month in Lagos. I used imported waterproof plywood underneath my two pens and wood round the side like yours. I never use plastic polyethylene and didn't cut plywood underneath to allow drainage. After watching this I will call my carpenter to do necessary adjustments. Also I want to transfer some into tyres today to avoid too many snails in the pens! Thank you for the video.
Nice work. No I didnt steam the soil, though some people do. I do understand why, and I won't stop anyone from steaming the soil. This practice kills a lot of potentially deadly diseases and preys to your snails
The popular Ghana snails are very funny in captivity. Give them some time. Are they big or small snails? The do take their time but then again they lay over 200 eggs at a time. So don't lose hope Tina

you can try buying some healthy ones from the market if you can't find them in the garden/farm. the loamy or loose soil should be in your garden near you or find a nice vegetation and dig the soil from there. Good luck
Hi..I have a small snail pen too and usually feed them with leaves and tomatoes buh want to know why they still die 🥺 because I managed to hunt over 20 snails recently and don't want to loose them either
Tomatoes will kill the snails because it takes the slime from them. I'm not a professional breeder but when I'm cooking snails and want get rid of the slime I squeeze tomatoes on them when cleaning it. I hope this will help.
what do you want the water to be, in the soil or you mean to place drinking water for the snails? we do sprinkle water over it every evening after placing food into the box. in addition, we place a container of water for drinking for them
Wow, good and beautiful people from beautiful places enjoying their lives in a natural and happy environment. I fully support your art and farm activity. 💯🎁🤚💖💞❤👈🖐👆✌🤍♥️🖕

thanks for watching
This is very interesting, I can't wait to start mine.
please do you pre heat the soil before use ?
I know some people do pre heat their soil. I haven't done this before but will try it in my next project to test the difference.
Good luck with yours
Good afternoon brother, i'm happy i have learned a lot from you sir.
Thanks so much God bless you. Please l ve started about four months ago but l ve never seen an egg before l bought all the sizes from the market

So lovely am from Nigeria
Well done sir, please, can this be done without sand?

Very useful information thanks
Thanks a lot for making this video. Really helpful 👌 👏 👍🙂 😊
thank you for watching
@@AIS.FarmResorts do you have to seperate breeder and egg
@@davedave9163 not really. but some farmers collect the eggs and hatch them in a different pen
Thanks so much ur good teacher
Can I use. my old condem freezer
Great delivery
very good
Lovely
Can one use a plastic cage against the wooden cage. And do snails smell, just in case, I want to have them reared indoors
sure you can use plastic. just make sure its well drained and allows good air circulation.
keeping it clean should prevent any smell
Nice teaching. Well done sir. Thanks.
thanks for watching
Please is it compulsory to heat the sand before use ?
No, but it is good to heat the soil to kill insects
very nice video... i farm fresh water snails, palm weevil grubs, crickets. in INDIA.. looking to farm them in ghana.. your suggestion please
absolutely brother. you can make a good return on your investment if you are committed
Grubs and snails are in demand. No for crickets
@@KojoDatiakwa I heard but in Ghana there are no grubs in the market..
How do they drink water?
place a bowl of water in their pen and watch them in the evening or early morning and you will find them drinking
strategic project
I lent we dont handle the eggs with our bare hands but i can see you handle them with your bare hands
Am very impressed
Black rubber... won't it produce more heat and kill the snails?
no it won't. the top/lid is open to allow fresh air in and out. the plastic is only to preserve the wood longer. if you can use other materials in the construction of the pen which won't disintegrate easily, then the plastic is very unnecessary.
Very useful. Thanks
Hi please I learnt if you touch the eggs it won't hatch but I saw you holding it with your bear hand😅
I have snails from my first snail over 2 years ago and they have not yet laying. Please do you know the reason why?
thats strange. how are you keeping them? they should lay eggs even if they have no soil to lay into
Great! Thanks.
Welcome!
Why is there a plastic bag wrapped internal? How will water drain. How do control a water logged habitat?

Thank you. Please where can i get snails to start? Also where can get the loamy soil to buy?

@@AIS.FarmResorts thank you
Jesus loamy soil is everywhere in west and central Africa
@@sirjones1 please be kind. not everyone knows the farming business
I want to start please
I appreciate your way of teaching,
How can I process the snail food
you can feed them with leaves. But for their shells to grow bigger and faster, you need to feed them calcium, which should just be powdered shells
What are needed for a beginner
Must the snail box be necessarily made from wood?
no you can use plastic containers, car tyres and concrete (blocks)
I need your number sir
Great education
Please why didn’t you put the snails on the dry leaves but rather on the soil?
Good question!
He supposed to cover the snails with dried plantain leaves for them to hide under.
Hi..I have a small snail pen too and usually feed them with leaves and tomatoes buh want to know why they still die 🥺 because I managed to hunt over 20 snails recently and don't want to loose them either
please send me a short video/images of your snail pen on our facebook page
may be pesticide

How do I know they are ready for harvest?
you decide when they are ready for harvest. you can harvest them at young age or weight till after 9 months. it all depends on your customer demand
What food am I suppose to feed them with?
leafy greens like cocoyam, papaya, cabbages etc
Those eggs you touched and buried by hand, did they hatch?
I'm sure they did. I was not on the farm to witness them hatch. But I have touched eggs in the past which went on to hatch
can I do snail farming in my uncompleted pouch
sure why not? Just ensure they will not find ways to escape
How often do we change the soil
you don't need to change the soil. change change the dried up leaves every 4 weeks or so
What is the maximum number of snails that container can accommodate?
I wouldn't recommend more than 20 adults
How do you prevent insects from getting in
you should not put foods which can attract termites and other dangerous preys into your box
Are there poisonous snails tho?
Those snail drink water sir
yes they do, so we give them water. I'm sure I did mention that in the video
How can I contact you chief
please find my contact details on the channel ABOUT
What happens when after sprinkling water on them and the soil becomes muddy.?pls
because its a loamy soil, it doesn't become muddy. this is because the water is able to drain quickly
Your snails farm is dry, and no water
what do you want the water to be, in the soil or you mean to place drinking water for the snails?
we do sprinkle water over it every evening after placing food into the box. in addition, we place a container of water for drinking for them
Very limited oxygen hence they will all die
that's why the water needs drain out

Can I bred them without putting soil there
You can. But I've only seen very experienced farmers do this. I haven't tried it yet
