no it won't. the top/lid is open to allow fresh air in and out. the plastic is only to preserve the wood longer. if you can use other materials in the construction of the pen which won't disintegrate easily, then the plastic becomes unnecessary.

Very detailed information and I subscribed immediately.
Very quickly...did you steam the soil on fire before putting it in the pen or not?
Is it a must to steam the soil?
I just started rearing about 500 snails I picked in my farm last month in Lagos.
I used imported waterproof plywood underneath my two pens and wood round the side like yours. I never use plastic polyethylene and didn't cut plywood underneath to allow drainage. After watching this I will call my carpenter to do necessary adjustments. Also I want to transfer some into tyres today to avoid too many snails in the pens!
    Thank you for the video.

Nice work. No I didnt steam the soil, though some people do. I do understand why, and I won't stop anyone from steaming the soil. This practice kills a lot of potentially deadly diseases and preys to your snails

The popular Ghana snails are very funny in captivity. Give them some time. Are they big or small snails? The do take their time but then again they lay over 200 eggs at a time. So don't lose hope Tina
