Tim weah is the real MVP, he did what he knew he had to do for the team moving forward an I can assure you his move in copa america was a team decision, had to be done! Now we can move forward no excuses.
I don't think that you actually believe Tim did that on purpose knowing it would make Berhalter look bad enough to finally get let go of, but in case you do... that's pretty absurd. Regardless, thanks to Tim anyway. His crap emotional response had everything to do with him being a pussy. He'll grow, though.
Leadership Council coup? Interesting…Maybe Weston packing on two stones in the run-up to the Copa was also part of the plan. It is all starting to make sense.
I don’t know why some usmnt fans aren’t happy about this. This is BEYOND our expectations! Gregg’s departure alone was already a blessing. Going from Gregg to Poch is a day and night difference. I also think he's hinted that he was interested in the US job, but the timing with his City contract didn't work out
Even if Poch underachieves, the fact alone that the USSF made this move alone makes this a win. All we’ve wanted as fans is for the federation to show some ambition and I can easily say this proves that they were serious.

I don't remember if i said it here or elsewhere, but right after GGG was fired I said I was hoping we would make a run at either Terzic or Pochettino. I thought both were good names that had a higher chance of coming over especially Poch due to him being a prime candidate for burnout from the club game. happy we made a run for him.
Pochettino is best coach for this young national team. I look at all the great Spurs players he developed, Bale, Kane, Eriksen, Son, Dele Alli (actually tried under him) and tons an excellent fullbacks all go bought by bigger clubs.
This is a 8.5/10 hiring. It's not the absolute best in a hypothetical which is where I knock him. Not only is this an amazing hire, it's a hire that's maybe too good for us! If we EVER criticize Mauricio i think it will show an sounding degree of entitlement. Whatever happens next is on the players i think
Sure Poch doesn’t have the international experience, but he’s proven he can go very deep in tournament competition with teams like Tottenham. His time at PSG and Chelsea wasn’t great, but honestly i think that’s a different skill set than what is required of the US job. He’s proven to be able to make lesser squads better than the sum of their parts, particularly in his early career, and I think that’s exactly what we need in a hire. 10/10
Poch didn't get fired by Chelsea, it was a mutual decision. As a Chelsea fan... he did not see eye-to-eye with the sporting directors on the type of players they were trying to add
He likes to play out from the back, but expect him to adapt and work with what he’s got. Like you said you need a keeper who can play on the floor and also defenders who are comfortable receiving it in tight situations which you clearly don’t have. In fact your defence as a whole is the area that needs the most work. He really needs to make the team a lot tougher to break down and I expect him to play more counter attacking football. Poch is definitely a huge improvement on before and US fans on the whole should feel more positive about 2026. I think you’ve now got a good chance of reaching the last 32, maybe 16 if the draw is favourable.
Look for Weston and Weah moving back, and soft tackling will be out or you are on the bench....but good luck finding a Goalie in the USMNT that can play with his feet
A step in the right direction by the US Soccer Federation. First time I see these people taking futbol seriously. I'm one of those who question Poch's title achievements but being from Argentina myself I have to admit he's got skills to manage groups applying some Bielsa football school rudiments. USMNT seems like a decent challenge for him. He doesn't need to win the next WC, but making quarter finals will be good enough to believe he can make a mark in a sport that needs badly some kind of validation especially at international level
For myself, I have absolutely lost hope in our USMNT which hurts greatly! So I am hoping that this is a good choice, and I am taking your word for it. I grew up in the 70's when we played soccer on farm fields. We loved the game no matter how hard we were bullied and teased from our peers, but we kept playing because it is such a beautiful game. It's time for USMNT to start moving ahead and make it happen. I'm hoping.

Hiring -- 10/10. Who knows if his schemes translate over to the national club side? No one. But I think that this is a clear message to the players and the fan base that the USSF is taking WC26 seriously. Play time over at Gregg's house is over. Your spot isn't guaranteed and you need to get to work. The USSF has stepped well outside the federation's comfort zone to hire who they believe to be the best candidate. It's ambitious. It's bold. They aren't playing it safe with a company man. Semifinal appearance or grouped out, we will know that (at least in this regard) that the USSF went down swinging. I like it.
I think his best skill is his ability to improve his players without having the money to go out and buy a huge roster, as he had with done with Spurs. And I *HATE* Spurs. But he was honestly fantastic there. And yeah, obviously you cannot buy players in the international game, obviously, but that isn't the point. The point is look at what he did with his limited roster (compared to the heavy hitters in the EPL) and look at how he has made them one of the most competitive teams. He took over a Spurs team that was in 6th place and in each of his years he finished in 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. After one year of leadership he took them to four straight years of champions league finishes, and one final. He is a *FANTASTIC* signing! And for those crying about him getting sacked at Chelsea after 1 year. 26 wins, 11 draws, 14 losses. Finished 6th place last year compared to 12th place the previous year. And have you looked at their roster? 🤨 Yeah, he improved that team a huge amount.
It’s a 10. He was the top of my list. Basically the tippy top of what was possible. He is the high level coach we needed, finally I have some hope for my team.

So a few weeks ago, I was taste-testing a new iced tea for my cafe with a US soccer shot glass. I cleared my mind and said "after I take this shot, the first name that pops in my head will be the next USMNT coach." Took the shot and said "POCH!!!" You're all welcome! Yeah, probably gonna name that new iced tea "The Poch!" Anyway, this is a real belter of a hire!!
Also in deeper analysis of this coaching hire, does his Argentinian nationality bring something to the table as far as his style and philosophy of the game? The South American style seems to have quite rugged and unique flairs, compared to Euro Ball. Describe how Pochettino's coaching style has changed or not changed over his managerial career. Please explain the deeper elements and implications of his coaching journey and what type of effect this will have on how the USMNT will play. And will the U.S. have a more Argentinian style or a more European style of play? Klinsmann brought us a definite German style and imprint to the USMNT, will Pochettino be similar in bringing a strong Argentinian hand print into our game?
It’s funny because just a handful of hours ago, I was like “OK they said they would probably announce it in mid August, where the f is the head coach?” If you go back to the Copa prediction video, I was in the comment section saying “the only good result is if we do not make it out of the group so we can get the bald man out” LoL.
I’m more happy USSF is actually taking this serious. If these group of players don’t do well I can’t blame the manager. Poch is about as good a hire as you can get right now.
@@TheDjcarter1966 Puli is one of the few doing anything positive for the US. You really believe he is going to bench a key player for some unproven? Guess again. Tell me who should start in his stead and why. Base it in fact, not feelings. Best o' luck on that.
I love how united you and Pete helped us become 🇺🇸. Firing of GGG actually happened finally. Refused to let them hire Cherundolo. Hired a great coach. US Soccer felt our presence
This! I expect to see these players pushed.....HARD by Poch (a la JK). Some of the entitled ones are NOT going to like the new reality of having a REAL manager now. They will ALL have to EARN their roster spots and places in the starting lineup.....and have to CONTINUE to EARN their spots.
Not arguably. Absolutely THE best coach the USMNT has ever had, at least at time of hire. We have to see results before he can be called the best ever of course.
My only worry is if the USSF (Don Garber) is going to be hands-off with him as far as team direct and roster construction. Hoping they don't try to JK him.
I think it's a great hire. He's a very good coach. He's not perfect but no coach is but he's definitely an improvement from Berhalter without a doubt. Also he should have never been fired from Chelsea and they have fans who would say the same.
10 out of 10 hire. Brilliant hire. If I were super negative, I’d bring up how the number of red and yellow cards Chelsea got early in the season lost them a few games-so discipline will need to be a focus for him. Lots of new players from other leagues joined the squad that Summer and that might be the issue but in light of serg’s melt down and Tim Weah’s sacrificial punch, thought it bore mention.
Massive Chelsea Fan here, and an American I think this is a fantastic hire I think Poch was hard done by a Chaotic club situation and the end of the season turn around was great if he can find form like Chelsea's end of the season with the USMNT I will be extremely happy.
He hasn't won as much as he should when he had the talent, but he took under talented teams and improved them. That's what he has to do in US. We don't have elite talent... We have potential and he does well with underachieving potential.
As a Christian, I can confirm that is NOT Christianity ball. Christian ball is knowing what to do when to do and then praying to Jesus AFTER you did your part. Berhalter just said "Jesus win this for us" and hoped for the best
A lot of the fanbase back poch at Chelsea it took a while but after how we finished the season people wanted poch to stay. Still happy it worked out for the USofA

Tac, I too love love love Emma Hayes and saw that interview with her and Horan having such tremendous U.S. pride was moving. The women's style of play was such a mature level where we don't seem so insecure and even dominate possession, and move the ball so well, yet not being boring. Contrasts between Hayes and Andonovski were night and day! I believe the contrasts will be just as starking between Berhalter & Pochettino. 10 out of 10 hire by Matt Crocker and the federation, and respect to them for making right their bad mistake, definitely forgiven!
I love this hire. 9/10 just because its not Klopp or Pep (even though i know those were 1 in a million anyways) He plays the same style and formation ive said this team is best suited for for years, has coached in a Champions League final, and hes such a no BS hire that he even told the Chelsea board to f off.
Its a great hire! Regardless of how we do, there won't be that voice in the back of our brains wondering how we could do under an elite coach. The soccer world didn't question his hire at Chelsea, Tottenham, or PSG and now its his opportunity to make our team look in the mirror and see how we can do under the leadership of one of the top 40 coaches in the world. Many of us fans have had to wonder of Greg's choices of line ups, personally I have always wondered has Greg been around these guys since most of them were teenagers and perhaps knew the players too well and wasn't judging the team fairly. It's time for the players to put up or shut up. Is there that much of a difference between The Championship and the Premier League? Don't forget, the USMNT has been far more successful using players from leagues in the US and Mexico ss opposed to first division of the top 5 (or 6 including Eredivisie) leagues. I feel this is a great hire for the present and the future coach of the club. No more wondering, lets get him signed so he can start analyzing the players!
There is a chasm between BJ and Berhalter. The chasm between BJ and Pochettino is even bigger. Home run hire, 11/10, best hire we could have made outside of Klopp.
I had always rooted for the USWNT. Had an older sister who played soccer and really looked up to Mia Hamm and all those players. But I couldn't bring myself to root for them as of late. Kneeling for the anthem is something that tells people you don't have love for your country. They're still going to have to earn my trust back after the stink of the Rapinoe era, but watching how Emma Hayes spoke about America and how proud she was to win for America, I can root for that going forward. She's not even American and she loves our country. I hope that carries over into the rest of the team

I hope Pochettino has a say in scheduling friendlies for the USMNT. The federation needs to get bent.
I wasnt expecting him at all. I hope he challenges the federation.
Just want to say…we’ve been battling for a while. Today and hopefully a country falling in love with soccer in 2026 will make it all worth while.
Smart move. US Soccer has had a string of well-intentioned and technically/tactically inadequate trainers for too long.
Fillipo having to cheer for an Argentine is HILARIOUS
I’m more happy USSF is actually taking this serious. If these group of players don’t do well I can’t blame the manager. Poch is about as good a hire as you can get right now.
The good thing is the player pool is equal now and all will have to fight for their spot.
Yeah maybe he will dump Pulisic and not find him useful......
@@TheDjcarter1966 Puli is one of the few doing anything positive for the US. You really believe he is going to bench a key player for some unproven? Guess again. Tell me who should start in his stead and why. Base it in fact, not feelings. Best o' luck on that.
@@TheDjcarter1966It's more probable that happens with Reyna ngl, he doesn't fit pochettinos style
very good hire he may not be a savior but im excited for the world cup now
I love how united you and Pete helped us become 🇺🇸. Firing of GGG actually happened finally. Refused to let them hire Cherundolo. Hired a great coach.
US Soccer felt our presence
alright I'm excited to see what this guy can do for us
I can’t believe we had so many Gregg Dickriders over the years.
Did we? I don't think anyone loved him, at most we tolerated him
@@ninjalectualxMax Bretos, Colin Cowherd and Alexi Lalas were notable pundits who were defending Berhalter after the Uruguay lost.
This is nice. He turned chelsea around
Chelsea were foolish to fire him. So stupid after the way they turned things around at the end of the season.
I wonder if maybe he would be able to recruit young high profile duo-nationals like Luca Koleosho, Landon Emenalo, Manu Romero, Cole Campbell etc.
Great hire. Now he needs a great assistant coach with international experience
Like with Klinsmann, could be very helpful for getting our players to better clubs, and for recruitment.
This! I expect to see these players pushed.....HARD by Poch (a la JK). Some of the entitled ones are NOT going to like the new reality of having a REAL manager now. They will ALL have to EARN their roster spots and places in the starting lineup.....and have to CONTINUE to EARN their spots.
Yes sir great win for this hire
I think this is the best coach that US could have gotten at this time. Also, arguably one of the best coaches that USMNT has had gotten EVER!
Not arguably. Absolutely THE best coach the USMNT has ever had, at least at time of hire. We have to see results before he can be called the best ever of course.
A good/great manager can get results regardless. Emma had no international management experience.
Great move by the US federation and a good hire. This will take the USMNT in new directions, however, it ultimately ends up working out.
This is like when Everton hired Ancelloti. Impossible unrealistic hire
Props to JT Batson for pushing USSF. Great job.
So pumped
Massive Chelsea Fan here, and an American I think this is a fantastic hire I think Poch was hard done by a Chaotic club situation and the end of the season turn around was great if he can find form like Chelsea's end of the season with the USMNT I will be extremely happy.
10/10 for me.
Based on the decisions the federation has made in the past, this is the best choice it has ever made.
He hasn't won as much as he should when he had the talent, but he took under talented teams and improved them. That's what he has to do in US. We don't have elite talent... We have potential and he does well with underachieving potential.
As a Chelsea fan, he is a great manager. I was sad to see him go. He’s going to do great for us.
As a Christian, I can confirm that is NOT Christianity ball. Christian ball is knowing what to do when to do and then praying to Jesus AFTER you did your part. Berhalter just said "Jesus win this for us" and hoped for the best
I like how you took the comment seriously :-)
I think it's mostly just a pun on "putting crosses everywhere" and hoping for the best.
@@TonyBrasunas huh?
@@OneOkRockSamurai Did you get it? Crosses?
@@TonyBrasunas Funny how you are the only one who got offended by my comment and felt the need to start yapping about it.....
He’s right tac the new coach is hotter than Gregg
I can't agree or disagree with that statement.
A lot of the fanbase back poch at Chelsea it took a while but after how we finished the season people wanted poch to stay. Still happy it worked out for the USofA
He wasn’t bad at Chelsea he just had so much pressure and so much little time me as a Chelsea fan saw that he was cooking up towards the end of the season and I’m so excited to see him in the USMNT
We're going from a manager who was mid in MLS and failed in the Swedish 2nd league, to one who had success in the Premier league. That's a win no matter how you slice it.
A success? How many EPL titles, FA Cups, Champions League titles did he win?🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Ronaldoluiznazario he got Southampton to there best finish in the last 30 years, Spurs to 2nd in the league, multiple top four finishes, and runners up in the champions league. Thats light years better than anything GGG has achieved in his life
@GeroldGarthcia ... Is that winning titles? He's been mediocre everywhere he has gone. In any case, I guess you figure a mediocre manager for a mediocre national team go hand in hand!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Ronaldoluiznazario winning trophies isn't the only definition of success. If you elevate your team to a level they haven't been at for decades, or to compete with teams with far greater resources that's success. The US isnt likely to win the WC no matter who the manager is but getting further than they've got before or beating a top 5 side would be a success.
There are like 8 currently active managers (9 I guess if you count Zidane) who have won the UCL in the past quarter century lol the USMNT was not getting one of those dudes in all likelihood. This is the most qualified coach in men's American soccer history. @@Ronaldoluiznazario
9/10 just because its not Klopp or Pep (even though i know those were 1 in a million anyways)
He plays the same style and formation ive said this team is best suited for for years, has coached in a Champions League final, and hes such a no BS hire that he even told the Chelsea board to f off.
GREAT HIRE. FINALLY!!!
Sadly BJ left
I had always rooted for the USWNT. Had an older sister who played soccer and really looked up to Mia Hamm and all those players. But I couldn't bring myself to root for them as of late. Not with all their political bullshit. Not only did I think their political views were stupid, but I don't want to have that forced upon me when I'm watching sports.
Brought Spurs to a Champions League final, and won Ligue 1 with PSG. He's still a relatively young coach, wanting to prove himself on the international level.
I don't think Poch is young or has anything to prove, the man's been around the block. I'd say someone like Marsch would be a hungry hire looking to prove himself, but Poch should bring experience and stability
Winning ligue 1 with psg is hardly an achievement in fairness
He also failed to win a Uber eats league with PSG 😂😂😂
Very happy. I had him in mind Very early on.
It’s a hit or miss pick. I think he can elevate the players if the players can manage to get their heads out of their asses.
So amazing. After hearing your pros and cons, I rate this an 8.5 - 9/10. The Gregg hire was 3.5 - 4/10
