  • This early 70's Tele needs to have a little more than just a setup.

I went to buy a Fender Telecaster in 1984 after saving up for most of my childhood for one, when I got there I was very disappointed, they had 3 to choose from but they all had issues, none of the necks fitted the pockets, they were all fretting out, the frets had pools of laquer next to them and other issues that I cant quite remember, needless to say I didn't buy one, the salesman brought out a Squier Telecaster and it was perfect and sounded great, they even had the same amp as mine a WEM Dominator MKII so I knew how it would sound once I got it home, I had never heard of Squier before that day, the salesman told me that's what Fender called its guitars in Japan, at first I thought they had made a mistake with the price as this Squier was a much better built guitar than the Fender offerings yet was much less expensive, I bought it there and then, it didn't need anything doing to it at all which was rare for a guitar in the '80s.
I still have this guitar and would never sell it, it is like an extension of my body.

Doing a full, neck-off, fret leveling, crowning and polishing is so satisfying. Great video showing the whole process. I dig that red Tele, too. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Check that 'D' chord down at the 2nd-3rd! Teles with all their treble can act very weird with that chord.

After all you did to straighten the neck and level the frets there is one last adjustment you may not bew aware of. It is the neck relief adjustment. If you know about it ignore my comment. If not. Research it.
