What mods should we do next? No one told me 4wd builds were so addictive! 😅
Darkest legal tint, roof rack, black bull bar. Would look sweet
Snorkel!
some really good driving lights or a light bar because standard lights are not the best, maybe even some plug n play led bulbs for the main head lights as well
have a look through the stuff available at KAON , it's good gear made in Australia. lots of stuff for the 120 prado.
I’ve exclusively used cheap Chinese mud terrains on my 90 series & 120 series for years now with no issues. I don’t rotate tyres purely so I’m only replacing 2 tyres at a time instead of 4. For my last 4 tyres, the rears did 86,000km & the fronts 46,000km. The current set I’m using we’re worth $170 each. 2 tyres for the same price as name brand ones, what’s not to like. Anyone who criticises the cheaper Chinese MT’s for whatever the reason I don’t think has never used them.
Hey mate, the reason strut spacers are bad is the front shock bottoms out before hitting the bump stop, especially with these struts cause the lower stem is extremely weak,
cause the closed length is now longer, you should extend the bump stop 35mm also to run them properly
Hey Mitch, thanks for the info! This makes a lot of sense, i'll swap in some bigger bump stops! Although I feel we will be installing a more serious lift kit in the near future as i'm starting to get carried away with this build....Haha
@@itsmikelake My fronts are flogged and addin spacers is a waste of time... buy uprated fronts thatll do the milage.
best of luck over the weekend, always good to have interstaters tearing it up at the bend.
You nailed it with this one mate! Good work!!!
Like ur content bro. Awesome transformation. Them tyres look really good. Hopefully they not noisy on the road!
Loving the new build series. These prados just keep on going. Hope your keeping safe with this wild weather in vic at the moment.
Cheers Jude, this seems like a solid rig for sure. It will be interesting driving up to SA as I believe we will come across some flooding. Good test for the Landcruiser haha.
@@itsmikelakejust curious, have you driven one of these with a supercharger on the 3.5 petrol? I've been wanting to import one for some time and I was limited to Japan as a source where they are mostly the non intercooled 1999 and older 3.0 diesel.
Basically, I've been wanting to have a swb daily driver I can throw around with a 5 speed and some more power and revs, not quite sure if the permanent awd is a thing on these that might make it a bit more planted with throttle in corners too.
Anyways just wondering how familiar you are with that setup, as Those SWB Prados with the 3.5l are all over Colombia, as well as the SWB Patrol Y60 and Y61 with the tb45 engines which I understand take boost really well, as to what practical use cases outside of oil-rich UAE drag racing rhere are, but I'm sure there is a sweet spot and I may be able to finagle some upgrades a bit cheaper and installed down there and ready to run as soon it lands stateside.
You've have to seen it all, aussiee being fans of both especially the patrol market popularity there.
Cheers.
Thats absolutely awesome ..
Hey mate, I've also got a v6 prado and am enjoying the familiar content! Would be cool to the series continue, perhaps a fuel economy video towing your trailer to Adelaide? Seems to be popular content at the moment and informative for us looking for it. Cheers
When you service it make sure to rip the sump off and check the oil pick up if it has a bad service history they tend to block up and then break rods but otherwise they where a pretty good engine
Fantastic video bro 🎉thanks man
13:45 love how the rear sits with them tyres 🤤 did a good job man, she cleaned up nice 👌🏼
Cheers Harley! Looks really good hey. But I’m far from done, more mods incoming!
looking gooooooood! just needs a fresh bullbar
Cars looking great 👍
Cheers!
I recommend rotating your tyres every 10,000ks front to back left to right
UA-cam algorithm popped up with this series! Love the content!! Subscribed! 😁
Love this! Thank you 😁
Really budget version. Just almost price of car itself.
Looks great with the tyres, thought they would be too big but once they were on the car they’re the perfect size
Definitely not too big, you can get 35’s with no lift on these 👌🏻
Cheers Will! I'm loving this build & was surprised at how good these cheaper tyres look hey. Bring on South Australia.
@@mitchellrobinson9810you can get 35’s on a 120 prado with no lift?
@@jeffersondaniel705 correct, if they scrub anything with no lift they’ll just scrub the first time to go 4wding and flex it up, I can fit 37’s on it now as I have solid axle swapped it
@@mitchellrobinson9810no way man I actually showed your compilations to my parents when we were getting my first car. I was originally going to get a 105 series cruiser but they are just too expensive to maintain so I got a v6 manual 120. It's basically bog stock, gonna chuck 33s and a 2 inch all around with the usual staino snorkel, arb deluxe bumper, ati beadlocks, new extractors, tinted headlights and twilights, towing mirrors and general 12v setup. Good thing about the prados is I can buy a good condition one with service history and still have money left for mods.
Those tyres on stock +30 offset rims will definitely rub in the upper control arms. You’ll need at least another 10mm offset to a +20 as a minimum to run 285s. Also, don’t sweat keeping those TEMS shocks, they’re rubbish and way too short for a lift. Apart from being illegal, spacers will cause you grief. Get some aftermarket shocks and springs instead and replace those rear bags with springs too. The limiting factor on rear flex is your sway bar links, fit up to 30mm longer links and you’ll increase your down travel to the limit of the shock length. I’ve had a Grande on 285s for over 10 years now and I’ve made all the mistakes you’re making now 😂
Thanks for the info! I don’t have any rub issues with my 285’s but perhaps that’s because of different tread depth’s on different tyre makes etc? I’ve actually purchased some lower offset wheels impulsively so I’ll be fitting those 😈. Thanks for the suspension info also!
The tyres will rub on the UCAs under compression, so maybe not an issue until you flex ‘er up offroad 😉
@@05hit Ahhhh that may explain the slight sound I could hear over big humps in the road!
Awesome build series! I am using a set of Maxspeedingrods rear airbags in my GX 470( a US spec Prado 120) and am very happy with their quality! Cheers
Thanks for the love! Absolutely can’t fault them. Great bang for buck 😁
Once the tyres that came with my car wear up I will be putting on some nice knobbly tyres like you got on that. They look really good
Cheers! So far I’m very happy with them 😁
nice seeing you bring this old lady back to life.
I really can't see the upside of doing a big lift if you are planning long towing trips.
You are introducing some serious stability issues and safety problems.
Hey Mike, I pray you’re still looking at comments on this, watched your vid when I was considering j120, fast forward got 1 and doing a build. Did the 285/70 tires rub before the lift
you will be able to actually see the fuel guage dropping, I had a hilux dual cab with the 1GRFE and it drank like a fish towing
thirstier than my 4.4 V8 LR.
had both.
I swapped my tires, replacing the standard 265/65R17 with set of 275/70/17, but good to learn from you that you can fit the 285/70/R17 as well! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks bro! Feels good to upgrade to a bigger tyre hey, they thing looks so boss!
How're you finding the tyres after your first trip? I was a lill bit worried they might be too big for the stock rims.
How are you finding your new tyre size mate, I am thinking of getting 275 too on stock rims. How is the fuel economy and did you have to use a lift kit. Thanks mate.
A complete walkthrough when you do put new suspension in would be mad. 🤙🏽
No problem Stu! Will do
I thought if you use more than 25mm spacers you need to put front diff spacers in to not strain the CV joints.
Need to hit up Choonga and get on an off road adventure with him!
We’re already in the process of planning!! So keen 😁
Bro graphite metalic wheel pain is the go to. I used it on my FC and my triton and it makes the world of deference, looks mint and last. But rig is looking good bro keep up the good work 👌
Yess where can I get this magical paint from my dude?!
@@itsmikelake i think its VHT man so just super shit or auto thefts. Then finish it off with there clear coat 👌
how was the clearance on the front upper control arm?
Not good I’ll bet
nice build! Where did you get the tyres? That's a cheap price, as far as I can tell
Lockers
i did the same to my prado 285 70 18 but you shud put a drop diff spacer kit
What brand are the tyres. About to put 286 70s o my 120 with a 3 inch lift. Any rubbing? Cheers.
Hey man ,my truck doesn't have airbags do you need 2inch springs and shocks
Hi mate Greg here i like your video i have also a prado 120 need to lift up as well
absolutely killer transformation . got a steal on it although it was gross to begin with. how's the smell ?
Cheers Matt! Smell is all but gone now. The back seats have a very slight smell still as they’re the original back seats, but I’m on the lookout for some fresh ones 😁
Might have missed it but how many kilometres on the odometer? Mechanically sound?
Flip it while prices are still kinda high and put the money into a TD dual cab. Or a 1HDFTE 100 series, you can get them cheap around 25k
Haha yeah cheap
Good to replace the bags anyway. They wouldn’t have been far off failure…. Just had mine done
Absolutely agree. Quite a straight forward job too which surprised me
mike lake would you be so kind as to give me the measurements of the evo 6 spoiler?
Yeeww
Holy crap isn't your shop next to the soccer pitch in springvale 😲
Yep!
Loving this series mate! From a fellow 120 owner. What brand tyres are they?
Cheers! They're 285/70/17 Ardent tyres. I'll review them as we drive to South Australia this weekend.
Hey Mike .. the mods are beautifully Done. I dod the same thing after watching your videos..but still i cant figure out how to leave the airbags in the highest setting and nobody makes the spacers for the air bags. AMTS 4x4 use to make the perfect ones couple of years ago but they stoped making them.
Hey bro! Just adjust the sensors on the adjusters so the bags sit higher 😁
Bro you are a LEGEND.
Just did the adjustment in the middle of the night ...such a simple adjustment makes the car go higher and look perfect and no money spent..now i can have a good night sleep...🤩
Grande for $3000 wow!
Ayoo that lift is decent! Got me scouring trademe for cheap prado's 🤣
Blackkk it out? stereo equipment? Options are endless!
Haha how good aye!! She’s getting the full black treatment 👊🏻. Apple CarPlay is a must. So stoked on this thing
Your inner CV boot is torn!
We ended up replacing both sides off camera 😇
Hey man, your prado vids just got recommended to me. Love them! How many K's does the old girl have?
Thank you bro! She’s got a hefty 370,000km on her but this engine is still smooth as heck 😁
@@itsmikelake Nice! I'm in the market to buy a V6 prado. Looking forward to future vids man 🤙
Yoo what’s up dawg
Donny! Hope you’re well my man
How many KMS on the car MIKE
370,000 😁
