As a law student it's great to see a study video from someone who has gone through what I am going through! I am also planning to work and study in the next few months. Stressful!
Thank you so much! I was one of the people who requested this. I am also doing my law degree in the UK, and will be taking my exams in six weeks! I cannot express how thankful I am for this video!
I would love to hear about your journey before college! i.e. your high school education the steps you took to get into a great college, tips for applications, etc. As a current high school student this sort of information would be so beneficial
I worked full time while obtaining my undergrad and graduate degrees. It was draining and at times seemed insurmountable but the rewards are for life and no one can ever take it away from you. I'm planning to obtain a professional certification this year; since I've been out of school for almost 10 years, this video was a great refresher on studying. Good luck on your exams, and I love your channel!
I use and abuse my planner heavily, but it never occurred to me to use different color ink for different "sections" of my life. That's a brilliant idea, thanks for this video!!
Thank you! You are definitely not alone in working and studying. I am working full time and going for my masters at night- this was very helpful! Good luck on your exam!
I loved this video! It was so timely for me. In Jamaica, to become an attorney, after completing your LL.B, you do two years of law school before you're called to the Bar. I finished my law degree and started law school last year. My first set of law school exams will be in May, so it's almost crunch time. I'd love a video solely dedicated to flashcards and how you make yours.
As always, I love watching your videos as they are such a great mix of femininity and professional career advice. Since you brought up the subject of planning and your trip to Thailand, I was wondering if you could possibly do a video on how you plan for a vacation or what tips you have for traveling abroad (planning places to stay, sights to see, etc.) I will also be traveling to Thailand in the next couple of months and want to make sure I am getting the most out of my trip. Thanks Elle!
i love all your study tips! i was surprised that i used most if not all the methods listed above. I have just finished my certificate in legal practice here in Malaysia and yes i bribed my younger sister (with lots of food) to sit down for at least an hour a day just to run through and discuss case notes, principles and procedures with me, super helpful! :) one more tip that is most important is consistency, it really is key to revise what you have revised. good luck to anybody else facing grueling exams!
The most important prep for law exams is to get hold of previous papers for whatever institution sets your exams and do them, preferably within the time limits of the exam. Exam setters are not particularly creative people and you will find that certain topics invariably come up more often than others. The average exam only requires you to answer questions on about a fifth to quarter of your syllabus. Also know that certain sorts of questions are easier to score highly on if you know your stuff - in law, problem solving questions are easier to score high marks on as they basically have a 'right answer'; theoretical 'discussion' type questions are much harder to do well in, because they require much better than average knowledge and sophisticated thinking to impress. Doing well in exams is a technique that often has very little to do with cramming vast amounts of knowledge - it is about knowing what is important to know and using it sensibly.
You are awesome! How kind of you to share these study tips with others. Your suggestions are spot on and extremely helpful to those who are in academia. I can see why you are so successful. You are a role model to all. Kudos to you!
Thanks so much Elle! Great tips. I used most of these in undergrad and will definitely use them again when I begin law school in the fall! It's always nice to know that what works for you also works for others, especially others who have already gone through what you will soon be going through. So awesome that you're from BC too!! :)
Hi Elle. I wonder when you started to make your study plan during the week. Did you schedule everything on weekend and then get along with it? Or you scheduled the night before next day? Thanks
Great tips elle! just wanted to ask, what are the professional courses you have to take after becoming a qualified lawyer? I'm thinking of eventually coming back to Canada to practice.
Hey Elle these are literally amazing tips! I often find those videos about study tips from other people not very helpful but yours is amazing. I will spent all evening tomorrow teaching my mum some finance course information. Lets see how she will get through it :D So thank you again honey you are the best!
Please talk about your tips and tricks for writing good papers in law school. I'm really close to going (graduate undergraduate soon) and feeling super overwhelmed since I'm not the best at writing. Loved this video btw!!!
Brilliant video! I am working and taking intensive German lesson (I need it for work) at he same time and I will definitely try some of your great tips! Thank you
Thank you so much Elle! I will be using the Remembering Technique you discussed. It's so obvious but I realize I tend to skip that step. If you don't mind could you share some more career tips such as internships, job hunts, choosing the right schools and then the right firm to work for, interviews, distinguishing yourself etc. Also things u love about your job and obstacles you didn't expect. Sorry if this sounds like an essay question but I want to pursue law as well and I would appreciate this information a lot.
This is an excellent video! I really appreciate it! I'm currently vlogging my way through my first year of law school in Chicago, and I have loved following your journey! If I can ask, what field of law do you practice in and what led you there? I'm currently interested in international business law, but I'm keeping my options open and trying to learn as much as I can about the wide variety of opportunities I have in front of me. Thanks!
I've just applied to law school, I'm completing a masters in chemistry and I currently work in an intellectual property law firm! I am feeling the burn right now but I still have managed to learn some neat tricks and trips from this video :) thank you!
I have my bachelor's and master's degree; I am all for education to start out in life. However I did make a vow that after completing my master's degree in 2008, I am done. My family keeps talking about PHD, and Iaugh in their face. I completed my degrees in a short period of time because I doubled up on my courses which I think tired me out. Good luck to all who are in it now, it will pay off & hang in there! :)
What classes did you take in IB to study law? I am starting Ib (grade 11) next year and plan on studying corporate law! I took HL business, HL econ, HL english is that okay? Im planning on study in canada too! do you recommend it?
As a future law student, this was very helpful and you're a great inspiration:) Can you please talk about your strategies and techniques to write papers for school?
I 100% agree with you with how hard it is to work full time and study! I'm an actuary and working towards my associate level designation. How do you structure when and for how long you study? I still can't figure out if I prefer getting up early and studying before work or staying up late to study in the evenings. Also, I always find the more I study the easier it is to keep fitting it in but once I get out of the habit it's SO hard to get back into it.
Found this video incredibly useful. Thank you - I'm excited to start using flash cards. Hope that one day I can progress as far in my career as you have.
Thanks for making this video. I have just started a commerce degree and I'm finding it difficult to get my brain to absorb information. I coasted through high school (complete slacker) so I've never been used to having to actually 'learn' anything, so this video has been really helpful.
Hi Elle, this was a great video, thank you for the tips. If you make another video can you give tips for managing the nerves and stress that can make you feel that you forget things when a hug exam or presentation is coming. I am preparing my dissertation that will be in a couple of months!
Thank you so much!!! I was one or the people who requested this. I am also doing law in France !! Thank you to take Time to doing this video. Kisses xoxox
Thank you so much for this video Elle. This is immensely helpful and you gave great advice. Please continue with videos like this, so many of your subscribers will benefit. I do have a question if it applies to you: how do you incorporate technology into your study sessions? I.e. how do you utilize your laptop, tablet or cell phone. Thank you again, keep up the great work and good luck!
I use my cell phone to procrastinate by reading and replying to comments and creeping on Instagram haha. I use my laptop to do online quizzes and I take my preliminary notes on it which I then summarize on the flash cards I showed. Hope that helps!
Elle, all great tips for studying. As an older person I found this very informative since I myself will need to dive into professional exams after being out of swing for many years :D
Thank you. I'm about to start a law degree (March 2016). I'm currently working full-time and I'm trying to prepare how I can manage both work and studies. Any tips? And by the way, you're cute.
When you were an undergrad doing law, were you involved in clubs and other extracurricular activities or work throughout your degree? And how did you keep up with studies with all these other demands on your time?
Thank you so much Elle!! Your tips are SO useful! :) I am a law student myself in the UK and I am so glad to have found you as someone I can look up to
I wish people found my field more exciting D: (biochem and molecular biology) Talking about cancer, mutation and clones = cool! :) Going into the nitty gritty chemistry behind it = In English please? :S
Can you go through/discuss some law cases that you need to study for your exam on UA-cam, like you Mentioned in the video if it is possible. I'm quite interested in law. Maybe it helps you study as well :)
As a law student it's great to see a study video from someone who has gone through what I am going through! I am also planning to work and study in the next few months. Stressful!

I love your channel! It's refreshing to watch someone who is not only stylish, but also, eloquent, professional, and intelligent! Subbed :)
