Perfect! Add that to the fact that her entire family is Brazilian and that she spent years married to a Brazilian man (she's currently divorcing him), meaning her core family probably speaks Portuguese 90% of the time. Americans think they are the center of the world and they don't accept it when people decide to embrace their origins...
Over a span of 5 years while training with people who speak Portuguese spending lots of time in Brazil... It's really not a mystery. My cousin had a full blown southern draw after living in Houston for 6 years.
JoshMetal316 i really don’t get it.. how the fuck does her accent change like that? If Tyron Woodley went to Canada for a couple of years he wouldn’t sound like GSP..
Accents can change within the same language. Like if an English person lives in Australia for a long time, they might eventually start sounding a bit Australian. But if an English person lives in France and speaks French for years, they aren’t going to start speaking with a French accent, because they were hearing French words, not English words.
Portuguese is a language with a totally different flow then english.. Im bilingual myself and it happens especially when you hang out speaking more slang Portuguese
I don't know if you are native Portuguese, but watching the first interview I felt it was other person, I mean I'm not English native and it's not easy to understand everything a native says and I can see the difference in this video, when she starts with accent it becomes way more easy to understand 😂
There's a curious point on that: I'm Brazilian. In 2012, when her English was perfect, her Portuguese wasn't that good and she had an accent similar to Henry Cejudo or Gastelum speaking Portuguese. Nowadays she has no accent in Portuguese but her English is just like Anderson Silva's one. It's weird!
I was born in chicago and my parents were born in Bulgaria. My accent does change a little bit when speaking both languages. The accent is normal. Just the fact that she forgets words is not adding up. She doesn’t need a translator lmao
I spent two years in Puerto Rico and when I returned to the US, I was told I sounded Puerto Rican. That accent was gone in like a week, so I do understand the acquisition of an accent due to the proximity and continuity of the exposure to it.

Im brazilian raised in america, speak perfect English but mostly speak Portuguese in my day to day life and my English never developed an accent. Wtf Dern. This would be like Gordon Ramsay talking like a Californian just because he spends a lot of time in LA.
It really depends on who you surround yourself with. Many people often end up unconsciously copying the vocabulary and personal speech patterns of those close to them. I know that I've done that and now I sometimes switch up my grammar on accident without realizing it. That and I tend to add in a small amount of Mandarin in my English while only being partially aware that I'm doing so.
Haha! I've actually never been to Singapore, but I'd love to visit sometime. I'm actually a white dude who lives in the Northwest of China just above Tibet. I'm sure you can come up with a better insult. I'll be waiting. The first one was pretty bad, but amusing.
Perfect English. This is proof Dern is acting out an accent. You don't lose your native accent. In fact I know several people who lived more years in USA than their homelands...yet they still have a heavy English accent ....they retain their native accents
It's not the accent that leads me to believe she's faking it. It's her mannerisms, she was speaking fluent English at first, but at 1:40 she's dropping words and acting like she doesn't know certain words in English lol
Thats normal.A lot of top brazillian football players that play in spain for many years, when they do a Interview in portuguese they get a bit confused with some words and have a lit bit of spanish accent aswell, thats normal guys
My family's Mexican-American and most of us are bilingual. My cousin spent almost year in Mexico a while back and obviously he spoke Spanish the entire time there so when he came to the states he had this semi-thick Mexican accent and was struggling to find certain words in English, lol. You adopt accents if you're around ppl long enough and if you don't practice a certain language in a long time you become less fluent until you start speaking it on a daily basis again. I've heard of British actors who live in the US and after a few yrs of acting as Americans, their British accent starts to become less noticable. Shit's weird man.
@Planks 'till Hernia you are nothing short of a fucking moron if you thought me quoting Incredible Inverts reply was me suggesting there isn't varied levels to CTE. What a ludicrous assumption, stay in school, learn to read and then come back to me.
It's clearly CTE. There's no reason to pretend to have an accent when the better opportunities are found by fighters who can talk clearly. Most brazilians and other foreign fighters want to speak better english because it helps in building fanbase and makes fight promotion so much easier. Also saying she is a jiu jitsu specialist is even more reason to think its CTE because she has to train for mma. She has to practice the standup and if you aren't good then you are the one getting smacked in the head every practice.

she spent too much time around brazilians.
she is brazilian
she's half brazilian
Still spent too much time.
she is American.
She was born and raised in AZ ffs
Well last night she needed a translator lmao!
JoshMetal316 i really don’t get it.. how the fuck does her accent change like that? If Tyron Woodley went to Canada for a couple of years he wouldn’t sound like GSP..
Dude you got me rolling on the floor and crying...when you said be like GSP
Wolfie Alpha I just had an image of Woodley talking with a gsp accent in my head 😂😂😂😂😂
woy hojsun lmaooo right ”R u intox-e-cated"
JoshMetal316 LOOOOOL
I trainy, i eaty and i zleepy
she's just a little special... nothing wrong with that.
Accents can change, sure. But that shouldn't hinder her from speaking fluent English like she used to. Definitely fake and very cringe.
Accents can change within the same language. Like if an English person lives in Australia for a long time, they might eventually start sounding a bit Australian. But if an English person lives in France and speaks French for years, they aren’t going to start speaking with a French accent, because they were hearing French words, not English words.
@Real World Warrior lowen omg stfu you dummy
@@woowowowow583 She speaks Portuguese. So why would she be speaking English while in Brazil, talking to Brazilians while training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
@@walsh1916 these were all English speaking videos. She just suddenly forgot how to speak English?
@Real World Warrior lowen you dumb bro. Lions don't have to tell people they're lions. That's a good way to let everyone know you're full of shit
She's becoming more like a Brazilian day by day.
Does that include gaining a bigger ass to fit the Brazilian booty stereotype? If so, I'm in total agreement.
For sure, I love Brazilian booty.
Aryan Khan most Most Brazilian booty are fake, though.
Fyah King not true, most brazilian boobs are fake, the ass is real
yeah, boobs are fake, but the ass is real over here
Portuguese is a language with a totally different flow then english..
Lil Nog tried to feed her a carrot. He thought she was a Horse.
2018: "I'm gon be chu champeon, dat way evebody hespect me"
Lol
There's a curious point on that: I'm Brazilian. In 2012, when her English was perfect, her Portuguese wasn't that good and she had an accent similar to Henry Cejudo or Gastelum speaking Portuguese. Nowadays she has no accent in Portuguese but her English is just like Anderson Silva's one. It's weird!
I was born in chicago and my parents were born in Bulgaria. My accent does change a little bit when speaking both languages. The accent is normal. Just the fact that she forgets words is not adding up. She doesn’t need a translator lmao
Yh this I agree with
"It's evolving, Just backwards" - A wise man
What a weirdo
Aqua Marino so weird
Jake Payette just whacked the fuck out
She seems spacey.
shell woop dat ass doe
In 2018 it evolved to her having a translator.
Devolved.
i've watched this several times now, i always forget about jones at the end, and it gets me everytime.
I spent two years in Puerto Rico and when I returned to the US, I was told I sounded Puerto Rican. That accent was gone in like a week, so I do understand the acquisition of an accent due to the proximity and continuity of the exposure to it.

She also kinda looked like him too. She really let herself go smh
The Curious Case Of Mackenzie Dern
Someone should ask her why she fakes her accent. She was at a seminar at our gym 3-4 years ago, and spoke fluent english, but on videos she spoke broken english.
Came back to this video after seeing her recent post fight interview LOL she’s goofy
Crazy video. 100% American accent up until 2014. Mysteriously sounded like a foreigner after 4 years of sounding like a white valley girl.
J D when you say Spanish when Brazilians speak Portuguese, you should go back to your comment and delete it.
At this pace, she's going to need a translator pretty soon.
Joey B hajaja that was a good one
Triscuit H funny you said that , she had a translator in the ring at her ufc debut
She had a translator tonight. good call.
“Micholll Beeespin, I luhhh youuu! I luhhh youuu Micholll Beeespin!”
- Mackenzie ‘Soldier of God’ Dern
Next fight she asks for a translator

Im brazilian raised in america, speak perfect English but mostly speak Portuguese in my day to day life and my English never developed an accent. Wtf Dern. This would be like Gordon Ramsay talking like a Californian just because he spends a lot of time in LA.
L D u think that don't have an accent but wait for someone else to tell something different
How you sound is one thing, but she's not even putting together remotely proper sentences after a year. The Downies is strong in this one
That's because you probably wanted to be English so badly, having come from a shithole.
"I was eating alot of food" 2:26 yea we know lol you failed to make by 7 pounds maybe you should not eat alot of food.
Perfect English. This is proof Dern is acting out an accent. You don't lose your native accent. In fact I know several people who lived more years in USA than their homelands...yet they still have a heavy English accent ....they retain their native accents
Maybe some do but not most. You sound like someone who rarely leaves mamas basement.
She's young, impressionable and moved to a different area with a different accent and language... I don't know why people are so confused about this
digging this series fam
thanks
Honestly this is just weird, talk normally.
paperchasin23 you actually believe that?
Zaziar yeah...awful weird. It’s unnecessary
paperchasin23 I'm struggling to unserstand how that would affect her English so much. Seems like a ploy to me
Dude. She is NOT a Brazilian. But, please. Take her. I am embarrassed to call her American.
Erik Larson,
What makes you feel embarrased about calling her 'american'?
I'd really like to understand the reasons of you embarrassment.
Mental illness affects us in different ways. Definitely strange. Would love a psychologists take on this.
Her ex-husband probably couldn't take it anymore.
Seeing this after DC’s interview from last week is uncanny
The Alex Jones clip at the end made this video so great 😂😂😂😂😂
Josh Saunders yes, yes and yes
It's not the accent that leads me to believe she's faking it. It's her mannerisms, she was speaking fluent English at first, but at 1:40 she's dropping words and acting like she doesn't know certain words in English lol
paperchasin23 lol, yeah I'm sure that's it
Thats normal.A lot of top brazillian football players that play in spain for many years, when they do a Interview in portuguese they get a bit confused with some words and have a lit bit of spanish accent aswell, thats normal guys
Having an accent is understandable, but completely forgetting how to speak English is complete bullshit... That's not how it works.

@Planks 'till Hernia anyone with your third grade level of grammar shouldn't be calling people stupid in writing, or probably at all.

She went from Clueless to Chris Cyborg in 1 year. You can see the birth of her accent because she starts the "You know?" and the hand gestures.
Yeah the “you know “ is her reminding herself to put the accent on
An uncle of mine has left our country at the age of 18. He has lived in multiple different countries since, and he never moved back. He is 86 now and he still speaks Dutch impeccably, aside from being a little archaic in his terminology.
Only two years until Ngannou

Vood jin Savage. Lol
LOL WHAT A FRAUD
I feel like most commenters haven't lived in a foreign country for extended periods. I lived in the Mid-East for 8 yrs. and when I came home had a thickish accent and, yes, took some time to gain back my English vocabulary.
Whose here right now?
