mind come on, she would learn to speak Portuguese, not develop the accent to speak English in a Portuguese accent! If I moved to japan, I would learn to speak Japanese , not speak English with a Japanese accent!! I mean sure I might pick up a slight inflection, but I’m sorry I would still speak perfect English! Also if I lived there 30 years, I would hope my Japanese got better, not my speaking English with a Japanese accent that would t make sense, unless I purposely decided to do that, which is fine I guess!!

sunofpeter2 I'm brazilian and I'm going to explain a thing about portuguese.
When a portuguese word starts with the letter "R", every word, you have to pronunciate with the sound that you would say in english if the word started with "H".
This explain why she is saying words as if they were written so: Hespect, hetard, etc. She is just mixing portuguese gramatical rules with english ones.

One never forgets their native language, especially if they spoke it until adulthood. Doesn’t happen. It’s all fake, apparently to seem more “Brazilian”. She could live in Brazil for ten years straight and still speak the same English she spoke for the first 20 years of her life.

    • @danielgteaching1377

That's not true. There have been instances of people not using their native language for many years and losing them completely. My English got temporarily worse after a few months in Spain and a good friend of mine has far worse English after not using it, having lived in a foreign country for 10+ years.

Most people just do not understand what's going on. When you speak two languages, both languages are affected. When I go to Mexico for 6 months and speak ONLY Spanish for that time, my vowels and other things are affected while all of a sudden going back to English. It's not intentional, but anyone here that speaks more than 1 language knows what I am talking about.
If Mackenzie speaks primarily Portuguese in her day to day life, it's very easy to understand what's going on.
To me it seems that she didn't speak a lot of Portuguese until later on in life, which is why you can note the differences in her accent.
The people criticizing are most likely lazy folks unwilling to learn a 2nd language and therefore have no idea what's going on.

You adopt accents if you're around ppl long enough and if you don't practice a certain language in a long time you become less fluent until you start speaking it on a daily basis again. I've heard of British actors who live in the US and after a few yrs of acting as Americans, their British accent starts to become less noticable. Shit's weird man.

It's clearly CTE. There's no reason to pretend to have an accent when the better opportunities are found by fighters who can talk clearly. Most brazilians and other foreign fighters want to speak better english because it helps in building fanbase and makes fight promotion so much easier. Also saying she is a jiu jitsu specialist is even more reason to think its CTE because she has to train for mma. She has to practice the standup and if you aren't good then you are the one getting smacked in the head every practice.

She went from Clueless to Chris Cyborg in 1 year. You can see the birth of her accent because she starts the "You know?" and the hand gestures.

Yeah the “you know “ is her reminding herself to put the accent on

An uncle of mine has left our country at the age of 18. He has lived in multiple different countries since, and he never moved back. He is 86 now and he still speaks Dutch impeccably, aside from being a little archaic in his terminology.

I feel like most commenters haven't lived in a foreign country for extended periods. I lived in the Mid-East for 8 yrs. and when I came home had a thickish accent and, yes, took some time to gain back my English vocabulary.
