Shannon, here's what you do with your indoors/outdoors magazine cut outs.... make a "dream" or pretend vacation journal/ gluebook! Start with where you are going (major land marks) put additional things with it like maps and such, then show what "hotel" or b&b you 'stayed' at by making scenes/rooms with the indoor pics. this would be so much fun. Do as many pages on one vacation place, then do another place and another and another. :D You would have a whole book of fantasy vacations!
I have been wondering how to use them too😅 so as you, im saving them 😅great video 😍 love Bertha she looks interesting and i would definitely want to get to know her better 🥰 lots of love from Arctic Norway at 25 sunny degrees 🥰🌸🌼🍀
Hmmm… how about use the sceneries… as kind of a “doll house” or places for the paper dolls to stand in? … OR, maybe you could make “Surreal Collages” … like Rosie from East of Honey does… (for example put some fish, in a living room, or living room furniture in a forest or garden… etc…).
I love what you did to the Wine Spectator Magazine! I think your outdoor pieces would look good in something similar, but maybe a little bigger. You know you can always ad people! I'm sure you'll get a hundred ideas.
People can overwhelm me sometimes - whether they be real or on paper! Love all these fabulous ideas. I'm a big magazine harvester - use them for tags, embellishments, gluebooks, or just decorating my journal pages. But I have TONS of big images and you've just given me a great idea for using them. Love the magazine cover journals. I just enjoy having gluebooks of images that make me happy (like you do). Thank you for such an inspirational video!
My friend, Laura @thehalfasscrafter has a rooms glue book book that she enjoys playing in. She has some of what you're considering: gluing down the rooms and then adding stuff
I have also lost control of... well... basically all of it! I'm at the point now where I know I won't live long enough to use it all. And that's okay! I love the hunt of acquiring it, half-assedly sorting it and then, storing it for future consideration. When the urge strikes, I just love going through it all--not necessarily to use it in a project but as a visually inspiring and wonderfully tactile experience. I remember one of your older videos where you just stacked random (or sorted categories?) of sheets, folded them and then stapled them together. You made books out of fodder and they were amazing on their own! Also: I have to tell you, when I got serious about my art in 2017, your videos were some of the first I ever watched and you've been a true inspiration. Love your ideas and style. Greetings from Montreal. ❤
OMG Shannon! You and I sound exactly the same when we talk about all the images that we save of scenery. I have so many and I have no idea how I’m going to use them, but, like you said, I need them in my life, they bring me joy to look at! I just have to tell you how much I love your videos. You are so funny, but your voice is also so calming! I hope you have a wonderful week! 🩷
Great ideas❤! Half Ass Crafter and My Vagabond Life create "rooms", using pages from decor mags. Then they add room detailed, like you talked about at the end. They will add people and animals. Cut out the windows to show what's outside (kind of surreal)😊
Thank you for making me feel less guilty about saving magazine covers 'for no reason" lol. Now I know what I can do with them at the very least, bind them together with 3 binder rings. Those binder rings come in handy to hold the "whites" from the magazine pages to make free scratch paper pads. I sort and bind similar sizes together. It's easy to use since I can find the right size by flipping through the stack then tear out as needed. I love using a ruler to tear out rectangles , therapeutic!! A no brain job. Youll be surprised how much whites, greys and light tints there are in magazines.
Fabbbbbulous ideas, I have a heap of ads I have saved because of the colour etc, thank you for the idea of simply glueing them all into one place, what a happy book!
Hello! I just discovered you tonight and I'm blown away! We save the very same magazine images!! I too fussy cut (practically until my fingers bleed!) people, people parts: faces, hands, arms, legs; birds, butterflies, animals & such and indoor outdoor scenery...as well as furniture, fruit, etc. I also save lovely coloured patterned papers from magazines. I've used my images in mail art and in my journals. I lean toward humour in those areas...mixing people parts, etc. I really like your ideas! So glad to have discovered you! I'm subscribed.
The indoor and outdoor pictures would make lovely postcards and journaling cards. You can add animals, stuffed animals, anything to make it come to life. 🙂
Love those magazine cover journals! I think I will make some of those! I’ve been reading through everyone’s comments to get ideas of what to do with indoor and outdoor pics, because I too, have been collecting them and haven’t really figured out what I want to do with them.
You are my kind of paper crafter! I got started in this from watching you years ago. I harvest magazines the same way. Now friends give me so many that I am overwhelmed. I think I need a "Big Random" to use them all up.
How about something along the lines of an Armchair Travel Journal with the images you love. If you wanted to do more than glue one per page cool - could decorate or leave plain - write in the open space as you 'travel' through the book you make - or just put em in sheet protectors in their own notebook and simply enjoy :) Ohhh, stealing that catalog idea! I have sort of a wish book (not as in I want it in my life, more just stuff I like looking at) but it feels awkward. . . diy catalog just rocks for it lol.
i seem to have the same as you do - yes even magazine covers - thought it would be fun to paint them up for journal covers - but - Shannon i still create JB5 journals - they are now Themed - just prepared 3 more - they will be Travel Brochure Images - Art Images and Images from Children Books - no timer - just play - it helps me - i look forward to seeing what you do because i have so many images - and the Fun Ads lol - they go into my EnMasse Journal - be well xx
Love your books of ads!! You would love oversized Germany book/magazine like the US National Geographic, but in book form in German. The ads are so cool…
I just started watching your channel and I’m really enjoying the videos! I love your folder system and think it will work great for me and all my magazine bits. I was happy to hear that you hate fussy cutting too! So glad I’m not the only one! 😂
So good to see you and Big Bertha! Now I want to buy Van’s again. I need to look for those videos using Van’s and napkins. Parts one, two and three lol 😂
Hi Shannon you have such wonderful ideas how could we even tap those? Anything that I thought of you were saying in the next sentence. I do use some of the colored pages like the bedspreads or garden to make petals to make flowers. Today's Quote: “I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”-William Penn. Huge hugs. Namaste 🐞🐞🐞
Shannon: it seems to me you have some great ideas, and don’t need any recommendations from us. All of them would be interesting to me. Just let the muse take over and go with the glow. That’s half the fun. I have never seen the alcohol advertisements before. I don’t even recognize the brand. I’m not much of a drinker myself. Do they appear in a special magazine? I’m looking forward to seeing where the muse takes you next. Carol from California
Those ads came out of a magazine called Wine Spectator. I do sometimes see cool ones in regular magazines but Wine Spectator definitely has the mother lode!
Hi Shannon!! All your magazine art makes me happy too 😊 I have also been diving into my magazine pages just for fun! Having a blast re-doing and configuring their original content 💕🌸
Yesss❣❣❣ very cool ideas I like the "Cover Book Journal" because I too like the thickness of them and have thought: "what could I do with these beautiful papers?" 😊 so yes nice idea with the... ugh I can't think of the name of the circle thingy"s lol... 🤦♀️ but ❤👌👍
you can do a full page, of just garden things, one page of just furniture and use the colors to match things together, sometimes if i have a pretty garden or house background i would use the whole page and put it down on one page, then next page would kinda match the colors with smaller images. u can do a page with just buildings too. or a nature theme, beach them page a food page, or food gluebook, or do a seperate glue book with just one theme, like houses, or gardens for each gluebook.
For the big Magazine Scenery pages just make you A magazine journal, which is a journal made just making pretty pages of the pretty magazines sceneries to enjoy and look at have you some journaling spots to journal on
Two of my favorite online classes i took last year were from Carla Sonheim website. The art teachers where Lewis Rossignol his sketch booking class he uses old books, magazines, and then alters the images for his sketchbook. All so Henrick Drecher, seednote book he likes to glue random magazine, images down on paper, cut it apart, scramble the pages and then make a book and then try to make a new images from what’s on the page. Both were fun classes and help me use some of the magazines up.
Hi, Shannon! Long time no see, Gal! But now I'm back....I noticed a few observations @ 26:40. Maybe instead of a lamp, place a cathedral there or a flag, held by a little girl. That's what I did! And with the other hand, she's balancing a cow on her palm. I don't do well with transferring photos from my 'dinosaur' flip phone, to my PC. That'll be a new goal for me, to find out who can do that for me, so I can participate with other great crafters on your channel. TYVM for your remarkable sorting ways.
Check out My Vagabond Style and Half-assed Crafter. These ladies do gluebooks of "Room Renovations" adding fun magazine cutouts to magazine scenes. Lots of fun and makes me laugh. Love your videos! What kind of paste do you use for sticking down paper? I prefer no wrinkles in my books. Thanks for the glimpse of Big Bertha. I loved watching you work in her and I made one for myself. I need to go back and give her a second look. Thanks for taking the time to make videos for us!
I will definitely check out those channels, it sounds like they might have just what I need, thanks! I used diluted Yes Paste to glue down the sheets in the magazine cover journal. The big ads in the Rembrandt book were attached with spray glue.
Great recommendation. My Vagabond Style uses magazines to make fodder. It's very addictive and although there is some fussy cutting required, it's of the almost kind, rather than the perfect cutting.
Stressed...overwhelmed...feeling wonky....Stop the harvesting. Wait a minute! Use what you already have in your containers. Once you notice it's time to harvest again , then time to refill. Too many things...so little time. Don't forget why you started your love...what made you happy! Big Bertha has the answer. Just breathe!
I save environments to make glue books called “spaces and places” and then insert people and objects. Laura Cass the Halfass Crafter has some fun UA-cam videos.
On the we're growing together page could you please "melt" the guys together?? LOL like one body with 4 heads? Did you have any small people and large food? Remember the postcards with an ear of corn taking up the whole wagon.
