Thank you, you are the first who really covered that topic in that detail.

4:30 also peroxide is a strong oxidizer so it may ruin any metal pieces found in the shoes

Hi. Nice tutorial! Will keep refering to it from time to time to take care of my oxfords. I need some clarification - How often must shoes be cleaned and conditioned?
Please let me know for both the elaborate regime that you showed in this video here as well as for a quick regular maintenance (i.e. brush off dust/ debris with a horse hair brush, apply conditioner and cream to nourish the leather, then shine using horse hair brush and shammy).
The reason I ask this is we, sometimes, tend to over condition our leather shoes and that may possibly be detrimental to the longevity of the leather. Would be great to get an opinion from an expert like you.

Interesting. I've had good luck using Saphir Everest Graisse Dubbin, which is vegetable oil based, for conditioning the inside of my shoes

Great video and channel. Here in the UK cobblers often tell me to throw shoes away, rather than fixing them. I have a pair where the inner lining (plastic?) has broken up and now melts leaving a goo on my socks when I wear them. Can I clean that out with vinegar too? They're nice Italian shoes, leather outside and the last pair I bought with my late Mom, so I'd hate throwing them as they look like new outside.

Can anything be done for the interior of a good leather pump? It’s gotten “gummy” and pulling away from the leather. Really expensive and worn once, albeit quite a few years ago. Seems a shame to throw them out. 😢

I’ve never really understood the fear of flushing a used boot out with water. I buy used leather boots all the time, an that’s the first step. I don’t want those interiors just cleaned. I want them CLEANSED. I’ll fill em with warm water, dump, repeat. Squirt some hand soap in there, scrub the insoles with a dish brush, shake, dump, rinse three times and call it good. It takes maybe 60 seconds per boot.
Never had a problem. And I feel better. And from the color of that filthy dumped water, I wouldn’t do it any other way. Just be sure to let them air dry away from direct heat/sunlight for a few days.

At what point are you putting in your shoe trees while drying?

Can you straight white cleaning vinegar, no dilution, and wipe the inside with a damp cloth?

What about using the sole guard to condition the leather footbed to prevent it from drying out and cracking? I didn’t hear you mention the footbed in the video, only the lining. Unless i missed it?

I meant it as the footbed and lining when I said that

Great video. Do you also do the treat the outside, the sole or heel before you start the repair? Barbara from Italy

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  4 роки тому +1

Before the shine I do that yes but if it is a repair job sometimes I do it in the middle of the job say when the old sole is off

Can you do a daily post for the care of Louboutin. I've got a pair with nasty red marks, the storage bags are red and I'm thinking that the colour of the bag somehow rubbed off the tan coloured patent leather. Looks like it's deep into the leather. Thanks, great job with the videos!

That might be best to take a look at if it is patient leather and that happened.
If you can email some pictures that will help determine what’s going on

Hace you heard about Saphir Plant Cleanser? It would be okey to clean the inside of the shoes with that product? Thanks for another informative video

so pure white vinegar (no water added) spraying into your shoe is completely safe? Can you also use it for the outside, i heard you mention it later in the video but didn't hear it earlier? Is white vingegar an alternative to soaps like saddle soap to remove gunk and old waxes, ...?
I've read about white vinegar and linseedoil mixes..
Are there any alternatives to that saphir conditionner to use afterwards or is this step not necessary
Asking as a student (obviously on a budget :)
    Best wishes,
    M

The vinegar isn’t strong enough to remove old waxes or polish but will help clean, remove salts and some water stains. This conditioner will work best to restore the leathers nutrients and I highly recommend it

I use ozone to remove smell/bacteria from my shoes and clothes and also cedar shoe trees. No need to soak the soles or leather in anything

Curious - any plans for a To Boot New York brand showcase/discussion video? I'm curious to hear your opinion of them compared to, say, Magnanni.

When you say ‘white vinegar’ do you mean:
    Malt Vinegar?
    White wine Vinegar?
    or Cider Vinegar?

You mentioned taking out the insole. What do you do with it? Do you clean that the same way? It was in contact with a foot a lot! That will hold dirt and stick the most I think. How do you clean if it’s leather and if it’s not leather? Please, we need to know!!!!

What’s your opinion on angelus conditioner

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  2 роки тому +1

Seems a little thick with some heavy waxes so has a habit of building up on the leather a little to much.

Hi. What is your opinion on suede unlined loafers and trees? I find they push to much on the heel top part and can stretch them? (...and damage the fit...)

    Thanks for the video!
A well known youtuber advised saturating the inside of a parir of doc martens with a lot of conditioner (mink oil, but it could be another oil-based conditioner) in order to make the boots easier to break in...
What is your opinion on this? Won't this compromise future treatments? for example, apply creams with pigments that cannot be absorbed because the skin is saturated with oil maybe...
    Thank you again!
