Did the Sri Lankan government consult Vandana Shiva? Should have asked this question because people are directly blaming her for the crisis.
Moral of the story ... if you take such people seriously then what is happening in Sri Lanka will happen here as well.
Every word of Vandana ji is of great value. Unfortunately the perils on this path are aplenty. One for instance is the fact that entrepreneurs are labeling foodstuff picked from ordinary mandis ORGANIC and selling through fancy outlets and malls unscrupulously. Real organic is rarely accessable and cannot be incorporated into a middle class urban family's lifestyle. (Considering how few Navdanya outlets are... with the once a week veggies pattern.)
Vandana Shiva is such an authority on Farming, I am surprised that she is not consulted by the center to take India forwrad. She is a beacon of light for us to follow. Thanks for bringing this interview.

The letters raise concern about Shiva’s “constant use of anti-scientific rhetoric to support unethical positions”. They also lay out some of her earlier positions on farming and comments which the experts believe are factually incorrect....

Regenerative farming is the way to go. Deforestation on the mountains will be something that our future generations will pay for. There will be no water, no food. We don't need resorts in those mountains which give us gangotri.

Yes true . I am a doctor and a farmer tradition so I will grow organic food .
Sri Lanka banned fertilizer and pesticides. Which caused the sudden crop failures and food shortages.
Western world wheat is for baked bread, they focus on making bread softer therefore their research is dedicated to it which is different to what is needed for roti.

Confused about organic farming.
In Sri Lanka sudden Ban on Chemical fertiliser and import of Chinese oraganic manure and related bacteria created a drastic reduction in farm production , what should be the correct way to introduce organic farming where chemical fertiliser and pesticide is already in use for decades ?

Yes, agreed: Srilanka is in huge debts. The import-Export was bad; but is there any need for organic manure import in Sri lanka?
Are you saying 'organic manure' does not transform into chemicals ( both organic and inorganic chemicals) after they decay..?
Are you saying organic poison (plant based poison) is less lethal to insects and environment ?

The three examples
1) scientists like Elaine ingham in USA and many others have done an excellent job in showing how increasing biology can increase the output of the system.
2) There was al baydha project in re greening the Saudi Arabian mountain range and they successfully created a self sustaining forest that grew food and other economically beneficial trees.
3) Geoff Lawton Jordan project where he made a food producing forest near deadsea and the forest start growing mushroom in dry desert.

Oh one more thing if you have all the nutrients you DONT FEEL NEED TO BE HUNGRY and your body is much stronger in physical capacity and immune system.
Example if you eat Quail vs if you eat chicken. Both are birds but quail is highly dense meat and smaller.

Chemical/poison is POISON. you dont need a scientific lab to test if poison is poison or not.

Science has moved on to understand the interplay of sunlight, plants and organisms. All the biological systems working together in mining the minerals from soil, nutrients from air and water from one side and photosynthesis for energy from the other end. The careful building of soil structure by the biology to store water and gaseous interchange is now understood in greater detail. The Universities in developed nations have cutting edge labs using CAT scans etc are coming up. The GM science is an old science which is now only funded by GMO seed companies and the same sell the ever increasing chemicals and massive doses of water. The current science forces the farmer to good land stewardship in their context. The encouragement for science to move in this direction came from already successful big farmers who have been successful for decades in sophisticated no till, no chemical farming. These farmers will never go back to the chemicals.
Tell that to the Sri Lankans
