Spoilers: That one review, for those who didn’t catch it themselves, is referring to a part during the psychic test where Lee is briefly shown an inverted triangle and gives the associated word ‘Father.’ Longlegs’ murder dates are done specifically to be drawn together as an inverted triangle, often a symbol in occult rituals With the revelation Longlegs had been living under her childhood home for years and she was partially controlled by one of the dolls herself, it’s interesting she’s have that subconscious response to the image.
SPOILER TALK: "With the revelation Longlegs had been living under her childhood home for years" Ahhh, I think you just cleared up something that left me slightly puzzled when I saw this last month at the cinema (loved it btw). I did wonder at the scene where 'Lee' wakes up just before getting that phone call to go to her bosses' daughter's birthday party? I remember thinking "Hang on? Isn't that Longlegs' lair/workshop?' Nice one, Yung! 😉
So the question becomes, are we to assume Longlegs was in fact her biological father all along, or simply a subconscious stand-in (Mr. Downstairs) for the Devil instead?
@@adamluther5836 My guess is that I don't think he was her father, only from that scene where he's shown ready to kill Lee's mother? But then she is spared so she can carry carry out the plans of turning up at people's houses with the prepared doll for each child etc. Unless I missed something here? I've only seen it the once and I'll definitely be getting a hold of that at some point.
@@stevethomas74 Really hard to say, the movie seems to deliberately never mention Lee's father in any way. I sort of thought the whole birthday on the 14th was meant to circle back directly to Lee, and the fact her mom made a deal to spare Lee, only for them to have a doll in their own house that whole time anyways? Just kinda feels like an odd loose end?
I really enjoyed the cinematography and acting. My only issue was the direction of the movie around like 60-70% of the film. Otherwise it was a great horror movie. Amazing still shot usage, and was such a breath of fresh air given the horror movies we've been recently getting
this is so wild. when i see this actress and think leading part in longlegs, i don't get it together in my head. god bless osgood for seeing it and god bless maika for being such an immersive and transformative actress
At first I didn’t recognize that she was also in It Follows because her performance was so different. She’s incredible. She and Mia Goth are my favorite horror movie actors.
Great actress, and Longlegs is one of the very best horror films of the decade so far. Perkins is a phenomenal director, I think Anthony would be proud
During the psych test, she says mother to an image of a rectangular box that looks like the box the dolls come in. Then, right after, she says father to an upside down triangle. Very interesting indeed. Edit* spelling
Even though the overall story was a bit of a letdown, everything else about the film was incredibly well done, and it makes me so happy to see indie films become talked about and popular.
It's crazy to see her being this fun and talkative, that speaks volumes of her performance in the movie. Kiernan Shipka had a similar effect on me, after I saw her in The Blackcoat's Daughter, seeing her real personality was fascinating. Both actresses are top tier level.
Everyone has been talking about how much of a Scream Queen Monroe has become (a title she seems less than supportive of), but I think many are forgetting how much of one Shipka has become in her own right as well.
It follows is my favorite modern horror film and longlegs is right there with it maika has now been in 2 masterpiece horror films. No doubt one of the best in the industry!
You should try Watcher as well. She's absolutely phenomenal in that. It's a slowburn thriller type horror and it gets under your skin in a subtle way. But her acting is just fantastic in that. Then it's a trio of great modern horror masterpieces.
Oz Perkins should honestly direct CONTROL and Alan Wake if there's ever going to be a film adaptation of those amazingly written game, because the themes are so on brand for him, i think.
Wow, I love Kiernan Shipka as an actor and her look and I didn't even know she was in the movie until this video! She was really a chameleon in this role, for me at least! And not me still having and being on my tumblr still today since 7th grade 😂
Willa and Maika would outact Mia so intensely. Mia is all dead eye screaming. Maika and Willa have more nuanced acting abilities that extend beyond just one crazed whiny type of performance. Every Mia Goth performance is the same to me.
I just watched the film and i didn't reconized her until i search who she was I was shock that she actually was the girl from IT FOLLOWS Dear lord what a beautiful woman
@@rogerthemanful It was given the greenlight last year and I believe full production begins next year. Maika Monroe returns in the same role as the first movie.
Fantastic film, loved it, Nic played the role of his life imo, creepy and top drawer quality. In the film the 1st murder happens on the 14th of July 1966, how ironic and coincidental that i was born on the 14th of July 1966, not a word of a lie and my nickname was Longjohn, why? long arms and no pun intended 😜Longlegs. The film deserves a couple of views to appreciate it more and to understand the underlying messages, excellent acting from all involved, 10/10 😀
So what that one comment said about recontextualizing her was referring to the scene where the triangle flashes on screen and she says Father. It implies that Longlegs is also her Father and not just "the man downstairs" which he literally was living under her feet the whole film.
I love this movie so much...after the second sight even more. It grows. Want to see it again. So well filmed, incredible acting, amazing sounds. I think this movie is a masterpiece - like seven, silence of the lambs...but different, you can't compare it to each other. Hail Satan! 😉❤️👍

I just watched this recently and you’re so right. I loved it.
She was also in Tau, It Follows and Significant Other.
Longlegs is one of my favorite movies of the year. Nicolas Cage & Maika Monroe both gave incredible performances.
I feel honored to be mentioned by Maika, she's so great and has quickly become one of my favorite young actors!

I loved her so much in It Follows and Watcher.
God damn it, that's where I know her from ! It Follows !
A sequel to It Follows is coming. 'They Follow' 🙂
@haydencooper_ I was about to post this. From what I've read online, Maika Monroe teases that the sequel is "bigger and darker and more f***d up".
This film is an absolute gem. Just so iconic in every way.
