      After a long day of work, Kanye West goes to his Kanye Nest to take his Kanye Rest. He wakes up feeling his Kanye Best. Then he’ll get Kanye Dressed into his Kanye Vest to go on a Kanye Quest. He goes to church and becomes Kanye Blessed, then to a hotel room to be a Kanye Guest. Then to school to take his Kanye Test. He forgot to brush his teeth. Did he run out of Kanye Crest? His neighbor stole it, what a Kanye Pest.

      That's one of the reasons alot of movies and games lose attention. The only reason being that people seem to think it's like a superhero movie, final fantasy xv's ending basically showed noctis and the team dieing and tons of people hated it even though it was the most creative thing ff has done in years imo (not to mention the ending shows noctis living his best life with lunafreya in heaven). They then ruined it with caving in and saying the team survived and then retconed the ending in dlc.
      Tldr people are retards and assholes who just want buzzwords and pretty colors.

      Exactly. Group up in pairs of two? One or both could be the monster. In pairs of three? One monster could still overpower two people. The only criticism that's valid is that MacReady didn't do the blood test until it was already too late, but given the circumstances its not realistic that they would think of the perfect solution off the bat.

  • @theodorehodbor5080
    @theodorehodbor5080 3 роки тому +1280

    Probably one of my favorite things about this movie was also the fact that no one acted stupid in this movie for the sake of plot convenience like in a lot of other horror movies. For most of the movie everyone were actually making pretty sound decisions considering the circumstances they're in (isolating the base so the alien couldn't escape, trying to use a blood test to identify it, keeping MacReady out after he starts seeming mad sus), and the bad decisions you do see them make you can still see why they might do it.

    • @rupbert

    • @thedeathray8620
      @thedeathray8620 2 роки тому +135

      But that is the point. As the video here states, paranoia was a part of the movie's theme. Why would anyone then tell a group of people, of which no one doesn't trust eachother with any kind of information about themselves, that they are chasing the monster? For all they know, the people they speak to could also be the monster, which would then hunt that person down.

    Just a quick reminder that the 2011 reboot of The Thing was supposed to be a love letter to the original, with practical effects and all, but the producers said "you know, CGI is popular, that's what the kids want, so that's what you're going to do" and they scrapped ALL of it.
    Somewhere, out there, exists a cut of that film with practical effects. All we've been left with is some... thing posing in it's place.

    There’s an extremely acclaimed theory about the Thing:
    An advanced alien race which had already developed space travel, discovered a strange creature on a different planet, which had the ability to amalgamate and perfectly imitate any organism it consumes. The aliens decide to study it and maybe use it in one way or another. However, the Thing samples somehow escaped, wiping out the entire alien race. What was left of that race tried to escape and colonize other planets as their home. The Thing once again managed to hijack one of the ships. The crew members pulled an Among Us and died off, one by one, being assimilated by the Thing. The last alien finds a planet, Earth. The alien then decides that destroying the monstrosity that wiped out its race is more important than its life. It crashes headfirst into the planet, but the Thing survives and assimilates the alien, then bursts outside, but freezing in the Antarctic expanse, later to be found by the Norwegians, and ultimately the Americans.

      Just like the protagonist of the movie feels so threatened by the monster, so does the audience of the early 80s feels creeped out by how different the movie is from the standards. They were so close-minded to the elements that made a movie "good" to them at the time, that the sight of something so terrifyingly new made them act more on instinct and to reject it, much like animals react to something they have never seen before. it wouldn't be until later that more open-minded audiences would start to fully appreciate the movie and to understand how innovative it truly was.

    I believe Blair was already assimilated when they went to ask him about Fuchs, he was getting ready to neck himself when Norris-thing got to him, or Palmer-thing if he had already been assimilated too.

    • @FilthTribeFTP
      @FilthTribeFTP 2 роки тому +5

      Nah, Blair was assimilated already by the time he had locked himself in his office. He wouldn't have had enough time to grab all the spare parts from the helicopter and tractor to make his craft if he didn't get assimilated until around the time Fuchs death happened. I mean, it's pretty much assumed that Blair is the shadow figure passing the lab and who got to Fuchs. Blair destroying the radio and vehicles was all a ploy and distraction to make it look like he was keeping anyone from leaving but you have to consider the fact that, Blair-thing already had other plans for getting to society. He destroyed all the equipment to prevent anyone at Outpost 31 from contacting the outside world and warning them. That way, he successfully isolated everyone and could then assimilate or kill the rest and then bail. This also helps his backup plan if the main plan fails. If it did fail, then they would still be cut off and by the time help came to check on them, all humans would've died from freezing to death and the thing could freeze and lie dormant until found and THEN attack. Therefore, Blair had definitely been assimilated early on, assumed by most to be off screen, my thought being by the dog and before the Palmer/Norris wall shadow assimilation. The dog, when walking down the hallway, could've been just coming from attacking Blair. But yeah, it just makes so much more sense that way. It would be way too much of a coincidence if Blair had destroyed the vehicles and stuff as a human to stop the thing from leaving and then a day or so later as Blair-thing, end up using that to it's advantage. Anyways, cheers!

    The Thing is still one of my favourite horrors that relates to body-horror. I am absolutely smitten by the special effects, even to this day. In a timeperiod where CGI is prefered to practical effects, I think it's important that we hail the films of ages past that are powerhouses when it comes to effects that aged really, really well - The Thing, Alien 1 (that chest burster, so good) and Lord of the Rings (specifically the battle for Helms Deep with the scale models of the keep) are just some of the films that can still make my skin crawl from the sheer talent.
