I enthusiastically agree and recommend the reissue of Mobley's Message! Can't overstate how great it sounds. It really swings. Absolutely beautiful mono, silent, highest quality pressing. I'm thrilled with my copy.
Such great jazz records Mazzy. I love Barney Wilen, Gil Evans and Alice Coltrane. I'm surprised by how much I enjoy that Coltrane album. Your martini looks so refreshing. Take care.
Discovering McCoy Tyner, an abstract improvisational jazz pianist. This is jazz I can listen to all day. Great. Mazzy , do you have any albums to recommend by McCoy Tyner? Enjoy your commentaries.
Sam/Fred = one of the best 'boutique' labels out there. I wish Tone Poet would follow Analogue Productions/new OJC/Pure Pleasure reissues, do a faithful single sleeve reproduction. The gatefolds just eat up so much (precious) shelf space...
I'm still waiting on one A/S Prestige and a few of the Sam Records. You're right this is a golden time to build an analog jazz collection. I'm really glad I ventured into jazz when I did and thankfully there's a good community such as you, Rob and the Bums to spread your knowledge and enthusiasm to keep me motivated! Keep up the good work!
Art Pepper + Eleven is a pretty nice small big band album, arranged and conducted by Marty Paich. Talking of Marty Paich reminds me of ‘Too Close for Comfort’ with Mel Tormé on vocals, about as swingin’ as you can get.
Merci Mazzy, from Mâcon Bourgogne in that France, where they do indeed speak French! 😅 Definitely checking those records, especially that Barney Wilen OST, will try & find the film too! Love love love Journey into Satchinananda by Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, just wonderful. Au revoir et à bientôt ! 😉
Man Mazzy your videos always be on point i have that Mobley coming . I Agree the Prestige series are the best Reissue series IMO . Im going to check out that Sam Records Byrd ‘58 it looks very interesting killer line up . Great stuff Mazzy cool shirt 👕 🥂.
Hopefully they do all the Alice's. I hear they sound great but haven't bought since I own the original Impulse editions though my version of Ptah is a little rough. Huntington Ashram Monastery hopefully is next. Gorgeous cover on that one.
when I used a device to raise my tonearm at the end of a record, I enjoyed so much pleasure drifting gently off to sleep listening to that Alice Coltrane record. I bought the reissue to have a clean copy, but haven't played it yet, so can't compare the sound with my original edition.
What a coincidence I just picked up the Gil Evans Tone Poet album this past Saturday from My Mind’s Eye a record store in Lakewood Ohio Great cover art!
Yep, Acoustic Sounds sent me the same email for the Gene Ammons Boss Tenor the other day. I ordered it when it was on backorder in December of 2020. Haha!
Didn't Collins mic the drummer for the 80s? Just picked up Mose Alison double record at a record show. Was put on the spot to defend the choice. Hey, Peter Townsend wrote the notes.
I’m not really into the jazz bop stuff you showed but I love that Alice Coltrane album, I have an original pressing of that one I bought back in the 90s. I hope they release World Galaxy next. My love of jazz starts more with Donald Byrd and Herbie Hancock and Miles from mid sixties on up. I love my jazz with groove and funk, not the bop. ✌️
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
For those Phil Collins’ drummer fans, and for anyone who is into well miced drums, check out John Martyn’s Glorious Fool that was produced by Collins. UK copy only, the US is vastly inferior.
Great to hear someone mention John Martyn, he deserves as much or more recognition as Nick Drake gets these days. Nick Drake never put out anything quite like "Bless The Weather" or "Stormbringer" with Beverly. Let's face it, "Glorious Fool" isn't even close to being Martyn's best album. He was on his way down at that point, although I do like it. Isn't Clapton on that one?
Make fun of Phil all you wish. You can't dispute his career longevity as well as many memorable songs in his catalog. May not be your taste, but many people love his stuff. A few clunkers, but he definitely is a popular music songsmith to be reckoned with. He puts on a great show. Just sayin'. I know you are having fun, but when you do this, you are not only mocking him, but those who like him.
I’m certainly not mocking those who like him nor mocking his music. But I am mocking my own taste for his music which I know is well produced and extremely popular. ✌🏼
@@larrymann803 I love Mazzy! I am not criticizing him and I get the humor. I'm a huge fan of Mazzy's channel. He is not alone with his feelings about Phil Collins I get that period. It's just that Phil seems to be a constant target! LOL
@@mazzysmusic Love you, Mazzy!! I am a devoted fan. Your channel brought me to the VC. I am not criticizing, I hope that you know. Just sharing my POV.
My view is you will prefer the mastering you first get accustomed to. I mostly have reissues and a handful of RVG stamped records. I always find the ressiues more balanced and RVG cut hotter and louder. I prefer the sound of reissues. I suspect if I had tube or vintage gear, I would prefer the hotter cut RVG, but on a modern solid state system, I find it a little too in your face.

Phil Collins in the background - like the pictures of Jesus where the eyes follow you everywhere.

Hate those sticky skeeves. Only put records in ones I have for collecting only, to never be pulled out again
My Mom loved Phil Collins. Phil's hello I must be going is kinda jazzy and his big band album.

Have you listened to Ezra Collective, DoomCannon, Kokoroko, Jelly Cleaver, Nubya Garcia? Nu British jazz.
I have not. I’ll need to lol into them. Thanks for the suggestion ✌🏼

HA! Yikes...
I’m more of a fan of the Gabriel Genesis. That’s when I saw them live. Lamb tour
From Genesis to Revelation ❤

A superb album - and I'm not even a Collins fan but he did a brilliant production on that album and his drums sound incredibly dense and dark.
You the High Padgham drum sound 🥁🥁🥁🤠
Phil Collins a hot night in paris

@@ronaldlongendyke3313 sorry can't agree about Martyn 'being on his way down' with Glorious Fool but each to their own. Clapton plays on one track.

I just compared the Hubbard Tone Poet with my OG, the OG dwarf this reissue, sorry to say but this Tone Poet sounds flat and lifeless.
