I needed some last minute help on a project that was due and which I had not submitted correctly. I'm not that tech-savvy, and did not know how to combine pdfs into one. I used the Preview option, and the video was very clear on how to do this. Thanks very much!
Wow, wow, greatly appreciate your help. I own a Mac computer since 2009 and I never use Automator because there's no need for it. Today I need to combine the documents and I follow your video and used the Automator for the 1st time and I like how you explain step by step how to do it. I combine the documents before but I used a different tool and I could not remember then I went to youtube and found you. Can not thank you enough for the great job you do explain things. Keep up the good work. You explain it better than my undergrad/college computer teacher. I learn more with UA-camrs than my professor that I pay thousands a year in University tuition. God Bless you.
Thank you so much. First time using that cute robot LOL, going to explore that some more. mean while you just saved me a couple of hours. thank you so much
Thank You so much! I set up the Automator Workflow and it worked like a charm. I'm not very tech savvy so I was a bit uneasy, but it was so easy to do because of your clear and straight forward instructions. I have a 39 page document from my Mother that I was dreading and putting off working on. Now it should be pretty easy. Thank you!
When using an iPad (pro) I‘d advise to use PDF EXPERT by Readle. It costs only little money and allows you to work with PDF documents almost as if they were Word documents. When I wanted to combine pdfs I had to copy them from my iMac to the iPad, combine them there and then back to the iMac. Your Automator version is way easier to use! Thank you! Hope you are doing good!
Thanks for sharing and I hope you are doing good too. Haven't had too bad of a winter in Chicago (mild in 30s) so can't complain there. I'll need to check out PDF Expert.
For printing purposes, will the first way work just fine? I heard something about combining pdfs via preview is not ideal for printing. Thank you for the video! New sub here :)
It should and I have had no issues but I'm guessing it could depend on how the PDF was generated in the first place. I can only go off my experience to date. Thanks for the sub and watching.
Thank you Craig. I have been dreading this job and your instructions make it look easy. I will let you know how it turns out. Keep your fingers crossed. 🙂
Hi just saw your video about your iMac 2011 and was wondering if you think it would be good for online school? I have a small budget but need something that will run Microsoft teams and office 365 relatively easily and fast and not sure what else is in my budget
I have two 2011s (21.5 and 27"). To be honest I have not used it for either of those since I use my newer machines now. I do think they should handle it if you can boot off an external SSD like I did (see my other videos). My machines run very smooth even @ 10 years old once I booted off the external SSD. Good luck with everything.
Hello thank you very much for the information, however, I am having trouble when I press "Run" it says that the operation couldn't be completed. Command line tool returned error 127.:127. Would you know why? Thank you
Im so happy I saw your video, I have over 500 emails and attachments I need to combine and until now I didn't know what I was going to do., I do have one question, my attachments come up fine but my actual email is not showing up, it is a blank page. Any suggestion you could give me?
When using the Automator I get a Error “Combine PDF Pages” encountered an error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Command line tool returned error 127.: 127” Do you have any advice on how to fix this? Thank you for your video.
do you have a video on combining word docs in automator. I cant get it to work on latest version- error 127 keeps coming up. Word 365, or office does not show in the library?
Sorry but I don't have a video on that yet. I don't have any plans now to make one but if I do I can notify you. Thank you and good luck with everything.
2:23 It won't allow me to do it. It comes up with a message asking for an owner's password even though these are my own bank statements. 5:29 This second method also gave me an error. "The action “Combine PDF Pages” encountered an error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Could not duplicate the PDF document" and it goes on to give the file locations. I think that any statements you download from your bank must be password protected in some way by the bank and it prevents you from combining them which is a real PITA. It only allows you to download one year at a time and there is now no way to combine all those Adobe files. That Automator does seem like a useful feature though that I'd like to use more.
Thank you, thank you.... I have a question though. I have created a workflow to encrypt (password protect) a .pdf file. Once the workflow is done, I check the "results" and i see the result file there. When I click on the result file it opens up in preview, asking me to enter the password. Perfect until now. But, from here, how do I preserve the new password protected .pdf file ? I mean, how do I save the file to my computer to protect the encryption? It looks like I am not able to preserve the encryption done through the automator workflow once I save the open file in preview. Please help... Thanks, Titus
I have not done this workflow so I'm not sure what to tell you right now. If I figure anything out I will follow up. I would also do some searching online to see if somebody had this exact use case before to see if that will help. Thanks for watching and if I can figure anything out I will let you know.
@@craigneidel Thank you, Craig. I figured out a solution. I do not know how sound it is, but it works for me. At the end of the workflow i used: "copy finder items" to a temporary folder, from where i can manipulate the pdf. All perfect this way. But is funny though, as I wonder where the Automator temporarily keeps its files. Al the best, Titus
Hi! I have 3 different pdf files that are chat exports with the same person. One file is our chat history on whatsapp, the other on facebook messenger, and the last has our chats on imessage and regular SMSes. These files are huge as the go back longer than a decade ago... What I want to do is merge all 3 in pdfs into ONE pdf file and I want the messages to automatically fall in place (be sorted) in relation to the date & time they were sent and received. **So, NOT to be able to just pick a page from one pdf, and insert it between 2 other pages of the other pdf; but to be able to select PARTS of the page from one pdf, and stick them inbetween parts of the other pdf...) I just want to end up with a final pdf file that contains all the messages from all the pdfs, but in chronological order - as if it was one single "global-chat" pdf export!! Is there a way to do this? (I'm on a Mac by the way, running Monterey)
The first option does not work for me. It does not show the preview on top. It shows google chrome. Will try the second one. Hopefully it works. Im spending more time trying to combine the two documents than I spent writing them.
You are the best... simple, short and direct to the point. Merci!
