Hello beautiful! Oh thank you so much for the video! I taught my female ringneck how to lift her wings. It took her 1week to learn. Hi... When I say to my cockatiel "bisous, bisous" he gives me a kiss making the sound and he says "bravoooo", I didn't teach him to say that, he memorized it on his own, even the sound! I love that so I capture that behavior and give him a treat or I reward him with words or caresses... Thanks for the freebies! You're great
I think that Jamie is the only one who did not have a boring quarantine because of her cute flock. Keep it up. And keep us updated cuz u are awesome 😎 this video is really informative and helpful 👌
My Jenday started doing a roll from the top recliner into my hair then waving. I watch him doing it my using my phone like I was taking a selfie. It's hysterical and I got a funny video of it. BTW, we love the toy boxes from Bird tricks. Murphy just loves getting new toys to destroy.
Birds often duet. I trained my bird to say certain things by giving her my full attention and saying it back if it were a noise that reminded me of some words. Now, she says Good Baby first thing in the morning when she is hoping to be let out of the cage. She also says You're so Sweet, Yada yada yada, Cute Baby, achew (sneeze ; I didn't even notice she was picking it up), You're so Cute. She uses the phrase combinations n different contexts, clearly asking for different things OR indicating she is interested in something. I also can change her mind about what to do by saying a phrase that corresponds to a different behavior, and she will switch to something else like hiding and reappearing from behind a book. I have never used a food reward or a clicker because I do not need to train her for free flight, for example. Wouldn't do that because I might mess up, and she would pay the price. I just need her to play on her own sometimes and come sit with me sometimes and snuggle sometimes. She lifts her foot when she expects me to pick her up, of course she trained me on that one. She was so cute, I just had to extend my finger. However, at this point, I have to get up and walk across the room to get her; she doesn't fly to me. So I am starting to work on training her to fly to me.
clicker training isn't limited to free flight. same with food rewards. it's a motivational tool: teach the bird that "click" = treat, and you get a click when you do the thing you were asked. it's the same as saying "good bird!" or such. but then again.. you know what works for you xD
1:45. A friend of mine used the command "better" (do it better) as a universal command to signal his pet (dog) he was on the right track but was not at treat-threshold. Replaces "All the way!", "A bit more!" "do it again" by something way snappier :).
My TAG came to me already knowing multiple vocalizations, including kissy noises. So “give kisses” was the first thing I captured and put on cue. Now it is a really great way for him to let people know he wants to interact. If he is offering kisses then I know he wants to earn seeds and will train and interact 😊
That's how I taught my eclectus to wave! The standard way of asking for a step and clicking for the raised foot just got her frustrated, and during sessions she'd quit trying to step up at all
My timid petstore budgie has just LOVED this training method its been grueling just trying to get him up on my hand everyday and he never really enjoys those sessions but with capturing hes the most involved ive ever seen him i started off with something simple head bopping and within HOURS he was leaning into the begging phase i think hes really enjoying being rewarded for his favourite behaviors even if he doesnt quite understand why yet thankyou so much
This is the real clicker training, as Karen Pryor started using it with dolphins and later dogs. Basically just catch the animal when it does a natural behavior that you like it to do and click, marking that you want that behavior and then reinforce it with the treat. Simple! This tells your animal that it should try offering you different behaviors, to test if they are wanted. That is when it gets real fun training, because you now have a language and means of communication. I just fell in love with his when I started using clicker training in 1998, after rescuing my first dog, who had bad anxiety. It was so obvious that this was the way! 👏😍😊
Whenever I click to capture a behavior, my bird goes into training mode and starts begging with her favorite tricks (usually saying "hi", waving, and spinning). Of course, once she starts doing this, she stops doing the behavior I want. It takes a while for her to understand what I want her to do, but she always gets it eventually!
Aw bless haha that's funny but must be frustrating. You could try capturing without a clicker maybe? I don't know if that would work faster in that case, replacing the clicker with something like "good!" perhaps. but if it works in the end .. 😂 funny bird!
I wait patiently for all your newest videos. I really enjoyed this video about”capturing “. Right now I’m watching your videos about ChiChi. Some are from 2 years ago. Thank you again for all your very hard work in making these videos for all our bird lovers out there. Hi Capri!🤗🐣🦇 Nana Janet❤️
I love capturing behavior. My moustache parakeet would raise her wings and I would reward her and say wings and now she does it on command. My King Parrot has the cutest wave that was captured.
My Senegal Parrot will blow a kiss when You say 'Kiss' which He was doing in response to this video for about 5 repetitions until He realised it wasn't Me and therefore wasn't getting treats. He will also whistle when I say 'whistle' and its the come here whistle used with dogs.He also wolf whistles so that is next on the list.He has a few other noises He makes which I have yet to figure out a que for and He doesn't do Them as often so bit harder to capture
okay, you might not see this but i my little sister knows nothing about birds but my parents got her one anyway, so we housed them together (cus they are parakeets) and she never held him right, wouldnt let me train him and now he has a brokwn foot, and possibly a liver disease, i am not sure on how to handle either, but this is also a warning to parents and other new bird owners, RESARCH UR BIRDS AND DONT CLIP THEM, AND DONT LET A CHILD HAVE CONTROL OVER ONE..
Me tooo my little brothers wanted a bird my dad got him one and he nearly killed the poor bird he threw and it died no parent needs to buy their kid a bird😭
Ana Saldarriaga parents dont understand the time it takes to care for a bird, and that its not just some $20 toy, its a life that is now ur responsibility
I just got a four-year-old Amazon parrot my 1st baby, I'm so glad I came across your videos very grateful I've had him for 4 days I've been bit twice, Where both learning each other he knows more than I do.. His super super smart and a lot of fun, It seems he only chooses to bite during step up so we're working on this. He flies over to me And loves to be on my shoulder By your videos have been a saving grace I feel like I have some good direction and a bright future with this guy, hes super smart ..
This is how I trained spin and wave with my bestest boy Nicky the Lovebird. He really picked up training quickly with this 😊 such a big brain in such a small bird. My Amazon Esmeralda learnt to fist bump on queue as she did it all the time. It's so freaking cute
I inherited two parrots, a Senegal parrot and a sun conure, I’ve learned a lot from these your videos, thank you very much!!! Story of my Senegal parrot: he was hatched est. 1983 and he had three previous owners (including my grandfather of whom I inherited the birds from) the second owner mistreated him and now he was scared of people, but I’ve gotten him calmed down and is now OK with being around people, he still attempts to bite people but still making progress! Story of my sun conure: hatched est. 1998 She is very calm, very vocal too, but we can’t seem to get her to step up, always bites, but as I said making progress, only two other owners (including my grandfather) anyways, thank you very very much for your videos and as always, stay awesome!! :)
Especially as a relatively new first-time bird owner, this is amazingly useful info to have! My two budgies have recently started finding interesting ways to play with some of their favourite toys, so I'd love to try and capture some of those things. Thank you!
Haha! Give the man his kisses. He totally helped. He deserves them, and they’re probably a high value reward for him. You know the drill, of you want to see a behavior again, you gotta click and reward. 🤣🥰
Hi Dave and Jamie not sure if you'll get this messege but your videos have been a god send I've had to budgies for about three weeks now and they were terrified and did not want human interaction I've been watching your videos for about 2 days now and in two days they both come to me and perch on my hand whilst eating a treat cant thank you enough for the advise you publish I'm alot wiser in training and nutrition tha is to you both
Love you guys and your birds ❤ because of you guys we got a couple of cockatiels to start with, we love those two. When we feel we are ready we want to adopt another slightly bigger bird. Please let the video's keep coming! 🥰
Capturing is awesome! I captured the wave, shake, show me wings and rollover all during our daily playtime sessions on the bed. Had clicker in one hand and playing with him with the other. Super fast responses. Ie.. he playfully put hand on my finger, I clicked and rewarded. Put my finger BK in front of him.. he did it again. Bam, the shake was born. 3min..
Most of my training is done with capturing with Rocky the Alexandrine parakeet. I have trained him to whistle when I say whistle it off and to make a galah noise that he already made when I say cocky boy as well as to make a kiss noise when I say give me a kiss and a few other little things. It tends to work better for me than the other things because I use words rather than visual aids like with most of the other formal training.
My late budgie used to flap his wings vigorously when he was excited. I taught him to do it on command which was completely adorable. Funnily enough though if my dad asked him to flap his wings, he'd instead do really cute happy tweets! This wasn't through clicker/treat training - just a lot of enthusiasm when he got it right.
I just got a couple of Lori's and I used this video to train them to 'boop' my nose. Since the female tried to play with my glasses she often accidentally touched my nose. So I used that. Now both of them can boop our noses on cue.
The African Gray named Einstein on youtube has an incredibly funny wave. Also I just adopted a Catalina Macaw earlier today! Whoo! Shes a rescue type situation and is completely terrified of everything and pretty aggressive but I’m up for the challenge.
Awesome video thank you! And what an eye opener... It makes you pay attention to your bird's behaviour which means you notice more opportunities for great and unique behaviours from your bird without making your bird feel that it is working or training hard.
I just got my first parrot, a cockatiel. It has been i think 23 days, she is aviary raised and i am her first human interaction. She can already step up, step down, wave, and recall. I have tamed her in 20 days. And this is my first bird. We aren't quite bonded, but we are getting close.
Love you guys, I love all your birds, how do you move a bird over to a greener diet, I have tried many times with my pigeon, but Scooter doesn’t like greens but loves fruits? My pigeon today I got home and he was flying around and flew out the front door, luckily he is a ex racer pigeon and he flew for a bit and came back😳😤🤨🤪
He probably likes fruit because that's also high in sugar and is more of a "treat" than healthy vegetables are. Maybe if you make a fine chop with fruit and veg, and mix it up with mushed up sweet potato or some other "binding" squishy food (so the different foods stick together and get stuck on the beak a little) that way the bird has to try the vegetables if they want the tasty fruit they enjoy. Then eventually they realise they like vegetables as well, or at least some of them :) they have quite a lot of videos and resources in converting to a healthy diet though, be sure to check them out!
My severe macaw does this thing whenever I’m replacing her food/water bowls, the hoop where the bowls go into are left empty and she perches on them then flips through them I was so surprised when I first saw it I never thought of being able to have her do it on cue, will definitely try this 🙌
I would love to see a free download of a chop recipe because I always feel like I doing stuff wrong or that I could do something better or different. It’s. Even tough lately so I haven’t been able to buy your cool books.
I capture taught my ringneck to raise and flap her wings with capturing! Whenever I had treats and I would start walking away she’d flap her wings to get my attention so I used that and now she does it on cue 😊
My cockatiel has always naturally waved when I come in and he's trying to get my attention. As soon as I try putting it on cue with a treat he acts all confused and rarely does it 😆🤦♀️
Yes. I captured big wings with my young conure because she did the big wings every time she pooped. So as soon as the wings went out, before the poop, I clicked and gave it a name. I have a new brown head parrot whose owner couldn’t afford to keep her, and I asked he what tricks she knew. She said she had tried in vain to teach her big wings, but she was doing them for me but I didn’t have a clicker.
I have also trained Rocky to toilet on command when I say the word toilet. It is very handy if we are out somewhere because he does not like wearing a suit.
One day I was walking a section of the block in Hollywood, CA and there was a reward sign for a cockatoo. I thought if I have wings I can find that bird for her. Just sharing. Lisa
You keep clickers and treat pouches all around? I'm sure those treat pouches don't go unnoticed! LOL ;) Great video as always. I learn so much from all of them.
Jinx voice sounds just like a person. My GC conure Cricket would always do 1 quick spin all the way around whenever she knew she was getting a trick.. so now she will do it on command when I ask her to..she also showed her boyfriend Zion ( my male GC) how to do the same .
Their so beautiful and I love your video’s I watch them all the time and I use your techniques on my babies what and where can I buy treats for them I have yellow sided conure’s and they are biters thank you stay sweet and please keep making videos Thank U
Hey I have a question so I want an African gray but ima 13 year old so obviously I'd have to deal with school and I read an article where they don't like being left in a cage by themselves and id worry it'd get lonely and start plucking feathers but all other times I would be able to have it out and socializing. Would that be fine and if not how can I fix this issue
I’ve captured my GCC Yoyo to do the wave and also to grab my glasses (when i used to wear them). Now i have my Fiancé do the glasses trick with Yoyo. My sister captured him to do his “Macho dance” (as we call it) because he sees my sister and she starts slowly moving back and forth, stretches his neck out and mirrors her. After the dance, he’s usually makes a kiss sound to her 😁
I can't wait to use this method for my sun conure, Tango. She was taught how to give a single kiss on cue, but that was just from mimicking the noise at first until I added the cue word. I can say "gimme kiss" or just "kiss". Sometimes she's so quiet though it sounds like a sneeze. She knows how to say "hey baby", "I'll bite you", and "stop it". Problem is, she only does it when she sees someone she doesn't like. Right now that includes everyone in my household except me. She's my little guard bird apparently. Her saying these phrases is also paired with aggression. Her neck and head feathers go out to make herself look bigger and she does a little sway motion. I want to teach her to say the phrases on cue, but also not have the aggression paired with it. Does anyone have any advice for this? I'm sure capturing will be the first step I need to take.
I taught my dog how to bow by capture training, I felt he caught on much quicker than what he would've if I tried to achieve that without capture training
A resource on cage do’s and don’t would be nice. For example I prefer not to use grates with my birds and I have a glass cage that I switched to that works great n my birds love
Can I just point out this is positive reinforcement, a very common training method and capturing actually was founded through positive reinforcement. This method I have studied extensively for years.
Question my bird does the lawn mower trick already because she copied us wiping & dusting. We say "Oh, your cleaning". But we never cued it. Am I missing an opportunity? It might be easy to capture now? Or is to best to leave it without treats? I guess what i want to know is should I capture everything or just useful things?
You can capture whatever you want to! Its never too late to capture either. It's just a fun opportunity to encourage a unique trait in your bird, and get them to do it on cue :) but yeah, it doesn't have to be useful, it can just be cute. Like lily making kissing sounds in this video! Maybe don't capture EVERYTHING your bird does though. Definitely not all at once, that'd be confusing xD
I have captured with my GCC Kermit quite a few words and phrases - 'morning' 'hi kermit' 'mwah' 'kiss kiss' 'Hi Georgie (my boyfriend's name is George) 'love you' 'i love you' 'coming' 'step up' 'sweet dreams' 'nuh (which means no and we can both say it to each other - he will say nuh to things he doesn't want to do and I say nuh when he is trying to chew wires or something he should be chewing and he will stop doing it) I can say give me a pash and he sticks his beak into my mouth and makes little clucking noises. He honks when I laugh too. I haven't really used any food rewards - he just wants to hear me say good boy and give him a kiss. I also use kisses as a way to keep up his good toilet training - when he poos off the side of furniture onto the floor I say good poo poo and Kermit then says kiss kiss to ask for a kiss for doing a good one lol When it comes to physical tricks I haven't really captured any as he is a bit of a boss and more of a talker. But he rolls over onto his back and wrestles with his feet when I ask him let's wrestle, majority of the time - depends on his mood. I can also say to Kermit 'go give Georgie a kiss' when my boyfriend is over and Kermit will climb up to his face and kiss him. I can also say to kermit when I am speaking to my boyfriend on the phone give Georgie a kiss and he will do it but now Kermit just always begs George for a kiss while we are chatting. When I leave the house - I say to kermit love you I'll be back soon and kermit usually says love you back now - he has much less anxiety when I leave 💜🐦
I love the way Lily flips her wing when she does kisses noise

I love that so I capture that behavior and give him a treat or I reward him with words or caresses... Thanks for the freebies! You're great
I think that Jamie is the only one who did not have a boring quarantine because of her cute flock. Keep it up. And keep us updated cuz u are awesome 😎 this video is really informative and helpful 👌
A big THANK YOU 😊 to Jamie for making quarantine tolerable for the rest of us! 💖
The standard way of asking for a step and clicking for the raised foot just got her frustrated, and during sessions she'd quit trying to step up at all
Thank you for the free handout. Your freebies really show me how much you really care versus being in it just for profit.
Jinxie is so excited ! Look at that blushing ! ☺️
My timid petstore budgie has just LOVED this training method its been grueling just trying to get him up on my hand everyday and he never really enjoys those sessions but with capturing hes the most involved ive ever seen him i started off with something simple head bopping and within HOURS he was leaning into the begging phase i think hes really enjoying being rewarded for his favourite behaviors even if he doesnt quite understand why yet thankyou so much
Thank you so much.
I love how the crumbs accumulate on your shoulder as you train Lily (around 8:30). It reveals the time you spent with her!
Mine does the same. As soon as knows I have the clicker and treats just starts blowing Me kisses
Aw bless haha that's funny but must be frustrating. You could try capturing without a clicker maybe? I don't know if that would work faster in that case, replacing the clicker with something like "good!" perhaps. but if it works in the end .. 😂 funny bird!
Just discovered your channel. Love the work youre doing here. Thankyou for the free resources!!
Lily is so cute omg, that sound is adorable! 🥺
I love how lilly shakes her wing when she does the kiss noise. To cute.
okay, you might not see this but i my little sister knows nothing about birds but my parents got her one anyway, so we housed them together (cus they are parakeets) and she never held him right, wouldnt let me train him and now he has a brokwn foot, and possibly a liver disease, i am not sure on how to handle either, but this is also a warning to parents and other new bird owners, RESARCH UR BIRDS AND DONT CLIP THEM, AND DONT LET A CHILD HAVE CONTROL OVER ONE..
M0CH!_ C4T 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Me tooo my little brothers wanted a bird my dad got him one and he nearly killed the poor bird he threw and it died no parent needs to buy their kid a bird😭
Ana Saldarriaga parents dont understand the time it takes to care for a bird, and that its not just some $20 toy, its a life that is now ur responsibility
I would get my kid 100 plants to take care and not see any plant that died than I’ll get him a bird no maybe 100 isn’t enough so 1000
This goes with ANY ANIMAL really.
This video is really helpful
I really do love all of your awesome videos all very informative and you guys also have very beautiful birds
This is how I trained spin and wave with my bestest boy Nicky the Lovebird. He really picked up training quickly with this 😊 such a big brain in such a small bird. My Amazon Esmeralda learnt to fist bump on queue as she did it all the time. It's so freaking cute
Thank you so much for everything you do on UA-cam.
My Sun Conure does this adorable lifting of her leggy and a flap of her wing. I would love to capture that!
Here at the hospital, watching your video. Haha good distraction while waiting for my surgery.
Hope surgery went well. Happy healing! 💞
3min..
Celebrating! Thanks again ❤
Don’t forget to 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁
Most of my training is done with capturing with Rocky the Alexandrine parakeet.
You’re off to a great start! Keep up the hard work 😎
Omg the conures are way too cute🥰 capturing is such a genius way to train birds! I’ve used it myself too :).
I love Lily’s little wing flap when she kisses!! I see she does that a lot, what is that about?
I love when birds use their wings for emphasis when they talk! If I had a bird, I would totally try to train that :)
its when they get exicted!
My conures do it when they're excited. So adorable 😍
Mimthyss S he has no problem with sweet potato it’s just green vegetables he hates, but he also love his eggs so I might try your theory out.
Little angry kisses 😂
My severe macaw does this thing whenever I’m replacing her food/water bowls, the hoop where the bowls go into are left empty and she perches on them then flips through them I was so surprised when I first saw it I never thought of being able to have her do it on cue, will definitely try this 🙌
I would love to see a free download of a chop recipe because I always feel like I doing stuff wrong or that I could do something better or different. It’s. Even tough lately so I haven’t been able to buy your cool books.
This is awesome! Thank you!🙏
I love your videos. I’m in Australia and have a 5 month eclectus. I hoping to use your videos to assist me with my Stan.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge I will surely use this techo👍👍🇵🇷
Your videos r So helpfull thank you❤️
Oh my gosh thank you so much for this video!!! Love you!
These tricks are so cute
So many beautiful birds 🌹🌹🌹
I capture taught my ringneck to raise and flap her wings with capturing! Whenever I had treats and I would start walking away she’d flap her wings to get my attention so I used that and now she does it on cue 😊
YAya New Vid!
Gyro has his work cut out for him!..
He "clicks" so far. 🍎👏❤
Stunning
My cockatiel has always naturally waved when I come in and he's trying to get my attention. As soon as I try putting it on cue with a treat he acts all confused and rarely does it 😆🤦♀️
Yes. I captured big wings with my young conure because she did the big wings every time she pooped. So as soon as the wings went out, before the poop, I clicked and gave it a name. I have a new brown head parrot whose owner couldn’t afford to keep her, and I asked he what tricks she knew. She said she had tried in vain to teach her big wings, but she was doing them for me but I didn’t have a clicker.
dave : you are using me
hahahha
those sun conures
I have also trained Rocky to toilet on command when I say the word toilet. It is very handy if we are out somewhere because he does not like wearing a suit.
One day I was walking a section of the block in Hollywood, CA and there was a reward sign for a cockatoo. I thought if I have wings I can find that bird for her. Just sharing. Lisa
Yyeeesss!!! My favorite trick in training!!!!!
Hi I love ur channel
Soooooooooo much you inspired me to start feeding fresh vegetables to my birds and they laid eggs love ya ♡♡♡♡
Great tips, thank you 💞
How to train wings
You keep clickers and treat pouches all around? I'm sure those treat pouches don't go unnoticed! LOL ;) Great video as always. I learn so much from all of them.
I love your BIRDS😍
Jinx voice sounds just like a person.
My GC conure Cricket would always do 1 quick spin all the way around whenever she knew she was getting a trick.. so now she will do it on command when I ask her to..she also showed her boyfriend Zion ( my male GC) how to do the same .
Their so beautiful and I love your video’s I watch them all the time and I use your techniques on my babies what and where can I buy treats for them I have yellow sided conure’s and they are biters thank you stay sweet and please keep making videos Thank U
I love sun conures my favorite
Hey I have a question so I want an African gray but ima 13 year old so obviously I'd have to deal with school and I read an article where they don't like being left in a cage by themselves and id worry it'd get lonely and start plucking feathers but all other times I would be able to have it out and socializing. Would that be fine and if not how can I fix this issue
Love this!!!!
After the dance, he’s usually makes a kiss sound to her 😁
Mam you are having great knowledge...
OMG I LOVE YOU! ❤️
My lovebird does the same lawnmower thingy that bandit did😄 I wanna capture that behaviour too🙂
Thanks
I taught my dog how to bow by capture training, I felt he caught on much quicker than what he would've if I tried to achieve that without capture training
A resource on cage do’s and don’t would be nice.
For example I prefer not to use grates with my birds and I have a glass cage that I switched to that works great n my birds love
Who else is subscribed and has there notifications on but is still late.
Dude, I never get notifications, but I have them turned on. It sucks-
@@DrHorribleDH I can so relate
Can I just point out this is positive reinforcement, a very common training method and capturing actually was founded through positive reinforcement. This method I have studied extensively for years.
i used to have that parrot but he died because a nothere of are birds killed him
Question my bird does the lawn mower trick already because she copied us wiping & dusting.
I have captured with my GCC Kermit quite a few words and phrases - 'morning' 'hi kermit' 'mwah' 'kiss kiss' 'Hi Georgie (my boyfriend's name is George) 'love you' 'i love you' 'coming' 'step up' 'sweet dreams' 'nuh (which means no and we can both say it to each other - he will say nuh to things he doesn't want to do and I say nuh when he is trying to chew wires or something he should be chewing and he will stop doing it)
I can say give me a pash and he sticks his beak into my mouth and makes little clucking noises. He honks when I laugh too.
I haven't really used any food rewards - he just wants to hear me say good boy and give him a kiss. I also use kisses as a way to keep up his good toilet training - when he poos off the side of furniture onto the floor I say good poo poo and Kermit then says kiss kiss to ask for a kiss for doing a good one lol
When it comes to physical tricks I haven't really captured any as he is a bit of a boss and more of a talker.
When I leave the house - I say to kermit love you I'll be back soon and kermit usually says love you back now - he has much less anxiety when I leave
💜🐦
What kinda treats you give your parrots? :0
