The Sherman wreck

  • The Sherman wreck is popular not only with divers, but with fisherman as well due to the sheer volume of life that is present around it. This sometimes leads to issues with discarded fishing tackle, and in particular heavy nylon line that is strewn about the vessel. This video shows the abundance of life, and during shooting it, we also had the opportunity to do some cleanup (not shown in the video, because frankly I had my hands full at that point with all the discarded line, hooks, weights, etc that we found). I'm planning a future dive to continue this effort. It benefits the animals that live there (even the lowly spider crab we were able to free from some of the line) and it is better for divers. People often think the dive knifes we carry are some macho thing gone wrong, it's actually a true necessity because its really easy to become entangled in heavy nylon line that you can't even see until its too late. The first accessory I bought my daughters when they got certified, and who were happily with me on this dive (their first ocean dive) was a good dive knife - they saw the necessity of why on this trip.

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing all the info on the wreck and its location. I live near Murrells Inlet and have been wanting to go to the Sherman.

Thinking about doing this wreck. I'm an open water cert so it's in my limit.
