- Welcome back to HawkTalk Moon Knight Night. The best time of day to talk about the latest episode of Moon Knight, Episode 3. In a very Raiders of the Lost Ark styled episode we get hints towards a third personality, potentially Jake Lockley, bad news for Khonshu, Marc Spector and Steven Grant fight for control and some but not very many easter eggs and references including Gaspard Ulliel in one of his final roles as Midnight Man. Hopefully Khonshu's imprisonment leads to someone saying the line "Somehow, Khonshu returned."
Maybe avengers appear and Will Smith says 'They are kind of assembled now.'
He gets the Moon Glider to save Khonshu and says “I FLY NOW!!”
And hopefully that someone is Marc.
There's a new Moon Knight personality named Guy, and whenever he takes over his body he exclaims "I'M GUY NOW"

Oscar has been killing it in this series so far. the scene were he visibly shifts from Marc to Steven was so good. Also i love Layla.

@@MatthewLevineFilm That communicates location ... not temperature. For all we know it is cold at the time. It is a common visual language in countless films. It is sometimes used for showing the past but that mostly has to do with how some old film stock looked and was treated than anything else.
I'm glad the suit Steven summoned last time does actually seem to be his suit rather than a one off gag
I love how they added in the Vine boom sound effect every time Khonshu talked through Marc

The physical performance Isaac gives when Khonshu is talking through him was insane. How do you come up with this stuff? “Hey Oscar, for this scene just make an expression like a God is channeling you to shout at people” “Got it.”
I found it cheesy and clichéd. But different strokes for different folks. Glad you enjoyed it.

I think it's clear that none of them like Khonshu to begin with and have no interest in giving him the time of day. Like, imagine, he's the weird uncle who is always going on about conspiracy theories and other bullshit. After a while you just become inclined to tune him out.

@@whatcomesafter9389 yeah, but this is the MCU; the title "god" is pretty fluid. These in particular feel really detached from what would have been their older spheres of influence. Osiris in particular sounded actually resentful of the fact that humanity moved on. So when Khonshu is going on about the impending threat of mass murder, they just aren't nearly as invested in it as he is.
And he's clearly a lunatic.
Or like literally any version of Mark/Khonshu asking to see the very incriminating tattoo

So Marc is actually middle ground, and Steve on one extreme end and Jake another. Plus I hope we get good payout in the end, they seem to be setting up a lot of stuff to be revealed.

i think of it more as marc's different sides splitting into different personalities, like how it does to real people who have dissociative identity disorder

@@gabe1655 Yeah, it's clear Steven is in some way mostly a creation of his unprocessed feeling towards Layla - that's where the love of French poetry comes from, the fascination with Egyptology, etc. In contrast Jake is likely to be his unrestrained violence. Probably elements of both were around in his earlier life - a more docile, meek alter; a more aggressive one; - but as Marc said, he mostly had it under control. But the near death/resurrection and possession by Konshu likely embued those alters with greater dimensions when his psyche was damaged.
Man I've rewatched that shifting the stars scene 3 times already on increasingly bigger screens and better headphones. Loved this episode!
I like to think Jake can't summon a suit; he just really likes fighting.
Building on that though, maybe Mark split off a third personality because he doesn't like killing anymore, and Jake is basically a sociopath who can do all the real dirty work.
A splitting because of a mentally change like that would be so cool! It would explain why he changed personalities just before killing last episode
I did like when Steven was getting stabbed and he says “Marc, take the body, take the body, take the body” 😂 I agree on there’s more of an equilibrium in this episode
They better have a fight on top of the pyramids shooting lasers at each other while the villains screams: "What are you some kind of Moon Knight?!" by the end of this...

I think it would've been funny if during the sky spinning scene that they had just a few people who didn't care and were like, "Big whoop, the sky's weird! That's just a normal occurrence here on Marvel Cinematic Earth. Just last month there was a big purple crack with a rhino guy in it."
that and the sun darkening earlier in the episode made me wish that at some point in one of these shows or movies you cut to a random new yorker seeing something like the sky turning back and they go “man what the fuck is going on now” and they go back to watching TV or something.

I actually hope now that Jake's power when operating as khonshu's avatar is to just materialize a white taxi cab which he uses to run bad guys over with. Like, Harrow is about to summon Armit when Jake comes crashing through the tomb in a taxi and slams into him at 88 miles per hour.
“Suits? Where we’re going, we don’t need suits”
We're still missing 2 of the gods, as Steven pointed out on the poster in ep1. In the ritual where they imprison Khonshu, there's 5, plus Khonshu and Ammit would be 7. Steven points out that there are 9 gods in the ennead
2 are already imprisoned, you can see the figurines when they put Khonshu away. I'm pretty sure they will all be released by the end so we will get to see them.
Bast, the Wakandan panther goddess, is actually part of the Egyptian pantheon and daughter of Ra (according to her Marvel 617 wiki). I’d love it if we saw at least a nod to her in this show.
I think it would be funny if Jake’s accent is Scottish. That could explain why the security guard calls him “Scottie”. As to why no one at the museum points out that he uses different accents (American, British, etc), I think they know he’s not well. It’s why they don’t press charges, they suggest mental help instead. The HR guy even says his coworkers have noticed he’s been struggling lately. I think the museum knows about his disability, it’s why Steven works in a gift shop instead of as a tour guide even though he’s so knowledgeable (that’s the only work they trust someone with his mental illness to do). They probably don’t know about the Moon Knight/Khonshu stuff though.
One personality has been going to work no one would have noticed an accent change because it was always Steven at work because that is apart of his waking life now Marc takes over in other scenarios but never ones that require Steven especially since he was trying to hide himself from Steven
I like the theory. We know that Marc (or Jake ?) has been to the gift shop and worked in Steven's place at least once. I believe most people ignore or just don't care much about Steven either way so when he shows up with a new style they just shrug it off as another wierd guy thing.

I still can’t get over how laughably (and conveniently) stupid the Ennead were. Here’s how their logic played out, albeit boiled down:
“Khonshu! You have been a pain in our asses for a millennia but summoning an eclipse to call a meeting takes the cake. What can be so important?”
“We’ll first off you all fucking suck and it’s not like you’ve been friends of the millennia either. But I’m willing to put that aside because this is bigger than that: Arthur Harrow is planning to resurrect Amit.”
“Pffffffft! Harrow? Resurrect Amit? Absurd! It’s inconceivable that your previous avatar who was imbued with god like power and tasked with carrying out justice would seek out another god to help him deliver justice. What do you have to say, Harrow?”
“Me? Oh nothing. But I bet he has a lot to say, don’t you, MARC? Because you have a lot of personalities don’t you, MARC!?”
“Is this true?”
“Well yeah but that’s besides the point. It will make sense if you just listen-“
“Shit my avatar is going to be late for lunch. Uh yeah look I’m going to have side with Arthur on this. I mean throwing off the cosmic balance by summoning a random eclipse all to accuse your previous avatar of cheating? Classic Khonshu. But don’t mess with the sky anymore, mkay? Anyways nice to catch up, hope to see you all again soon.”
A few hours later
“Son of a bitch, Khonshu has messed with the sky again to show a specific date’s stars. I mean, if he’s gone to these lengths maybe he was telling the truth… nah you right. Let’s entomb him in stone I reckon.”
And scene
Given that even Marc - the mercenary- was a bit like “whoa!” regarding those murdered guys, I don’t think Jake Lockley is going to be a mere cabbie. I think he’s going to be the real wild card. A more gleefully psychotic (albeit also a womaniser and still heroic) personality that makes Marc and Steven kind of glad of each other.

This got me wondering now if the Ennead are going to play a bit part in Thor: L&T too. Maybe Gorr will wind up gankin a few of them in the midst of a demicide murder spree? :)

About the Star Rewinding scene...
Did none of them realize there has to be about a dozen astronomy apps that can do that on a computer or even a smart phone? Layla had a computer right in her hands, too. Downlaod the app, run the star positions backward until you get the night sky Khonshu remembers. It would take 10 extra minutes, and no imprisonment for Khonshu, unless the gods have a really strict third party download policy.

Movies/tv shows need dramatic license to be creative sometimes and consequently be fun. That would’ve been boring had they just used an app and what we got allowed for a new dramatic turn to occur with Khonshu being imprisoned.
No. Because there’s no way you can program an algorithm that can correctly predict where the stats were aligned, think about the thousands of obscure cosmic events that have happened
-eclipses, supernova explosions that were visible in daylight, Hailee’s comet appearances etc etc
We just really don’t know what was in that night sky back then!
@@badumtss3067 Yes, we 100% absolutely can do that, and astronomers have done exactly that. Eclipses are 100% predicatable down to the minute and second, as is the orbits of planets. moons, comets, and asteroids. The proper motion of all nearby stars have been charted. For supernovae, we can see the remnants of them (nebulae) and run them backward to know when they exploded. We can run it all backwards with precision and see what the night sky looked at on any date. That is a proven scientific capability in the real world.
Plus, get this, if Khonshu can run an image spanning the entire sky backward 2000 years, why couldn't he have done the same with a starchart on a computer intead?
I think he was Jake at points during the truck scene in episode 1 considering he was somehow able to spin around the truck on a tight cliff road and begin reversing backwards without falling off. Sounds like something Jake would know how to do for sure.

Egypt is genuinely breathtaking.... It's the first time where I've actually seen the city and not just the pyramids and the old town!
With him finally fighting other humans in the costume you can see scale a lot better and I love that instead of trying to make Isaac look taller he’s just visibly the shortest super hero in the MCU. Not sure why I got such a kick out of it but I did.

I just adore Oscar Isaac, what a spectacular on-screen presence. Glad he seems to be having fun with these roles, he's crushing it.
That part about the filter really opened my eyes. I knew there was something different about how Egypt was portrayed here, I just assumed it was because they were on location instead some Hollywood set.

Fun fact: there’s a bunch of free software that can reproduce what the night sky looked like 2000 years ago. There was no need to swipe through the universe like an iPad.

So those remaining Egyptian gods seem to have imprisoned a lot of their patheon. Looked like a lot of mini God action figures in that pyramid. I think it's going to turn out they're actually not very good blokes (and ladies).

Honestly, that scene was janky as Hell.
Still haven’t seen anyone mention that one of the avatars inside the pyramid is clearly the Avatar of Bast (the panther god of Wakanda). Will that have anything to do with the future of the Black Panther movies or is it just a throw-away reference for the deep nerds? I dunno but it’s all I want to talk about.

Its funny, I guess there isn't a lot of Stargate fans here, cause I would of thought many other people other then me would have made the comment about how similar the "eyes lighting up" effect is weirdly very similar to the one in that movie/tv show. Almost felt like they had Goa'uld in them ... i dunno, maybe its a "wink" to the old tv series? Id like to think it is lol
5:00 it's funny you mention it yes they are very similar, in fact The Panther God Bast, is literally the child of Ra who is the Egyptian god of basically everything more or less. Bast was also originally part of te Ennead, but around the time of the pharaohs most of the gods moved what's called the "Celestial Heliopolis" which is basically a realm just for the Egyptian gods. Then 10,000 years ago the vibranium meteor landed in Wakanda with some of the radiation turning people into "Demon Spirits" a warrior named Bashenga prayed to Bast for strength to defeat them, becoming Bast's first avatar and the first Black Panther. After that Bast adopted a realm bordering the Egyptian gods realm and "Ala" the Africa gods realm.
Ah so those realms could be like Ta Lo in Shang Chi, or the dark dimension, or how Asgard and Jotunheim were originally other dimensions in the comics!

I'm hoping we'll see some of the stuff you're talking about, I'm hoping they show us some things we haven't gotten from the comics to fill things out more because they know there are casual fans who don't have any knowledge of the comics that will watch. At this point I think we'll see Ammit in this season and who knows going forward.
@@ungreatfulduck750 exactly, that's another reason I think we'll see him/her (can't remember if the gender is specified but I know Bast has been portrayed as both) and I haven't read like every Moon Knight comic so these are just guesses but is Khonshu at any point ever "banished" like he said he was in the show? If so maybe they just play dumb about him or something. Or maybe it has something to do with Ra (Atum) if I remember right him and Khonshu have quite a rivalry and with Ra being the king of the gods and such I'm sure he could make them forget Khonshu. Remember those are purely guesses though. I just kind of always took it as Marc/Steven/Jake was unsure if he was real but as the readers we knew he was real for the most part mainly if not sheerly for the fact his powers definitely seem real. But I feel where you're coming from. I do wonder if we'll ever see Moon Knight go against Sun King.

@@pravineshdayal4489 what do you mean? The movement of stars across the sky is basically as predictable as clockwork (we know from observations how fast and in which direction each star is moving), so it’s simply a case of turning the clock backwards however far back is required

I wonder if Jake will have that ghost fighting armor with the bird head from Ellis’ run on Moon Knight. That’s the run that introduced Mr. Knight, and it has Marc switching between three different costumes with different abilities. Don’t know if it will translates well on screen though.
I haven’t watched this episode yet but I’m so excited about Month Knight that I might just watch this early

If you look at the end credits there are three suits for moonknight. I think the first one is Jake, who I suspect is just a psychotic murderer. His costume looks like a ninja or power ranger. I also suspect that Jake is who Khonshu first approached as his avatar. I’m excited to see what they do with it. Really interesting so far.
I really hope that Marc and Steven don’t settle their differences by the end of show because I feel that they should never be fully on the same wavelength and that their should always be that uncontrollable switch between personalities and that that they should never actually fix what is wrong with them because with that element of the story gone then I feel the character will really suffer if he is basically just the hulk and can switch between personalities at will

He’s in the post credit scene with Jon kransinki’s Mephisto and willem dafoe’s corn of Coblin.
I like this show better when I'm listening to you guys talk about it then when I'm actually watching it.
A quick correction: I don't believe he or the suit is bulletproof - rather, he's pretty much capable of tanking any wounds he takes while the suit is on without blinking. Khonshu refers to it as his "healing armor," and the goons he fights don't seem to have any trouble penetrating the suit to stab him, so I think that instead of protecting the body from damage like more traditional armor, it instead makes the wearer basically able to pretty much disregard any injuries they take.
Funny enough, it goes with Moon Knight's fighting style in the comics where he just takes it all damage dealt to him.
My theory for the finale is marc/steven will go to the moon meet up with Steve Rogers and beat up ammit together
Harrow has a 100s strong cult to Ammit, has a magical artefact containing some of Ammit's power, has a freaking Ammit tattoo, and is currently performing a massive dig on Ammit's tomb. And every one of the gods is like "nah, this Marc guy is crazy, hey Harrow, want unfettered access to our meeting place?"
This gave me the same vibes as a Series of Unfortunate Events, when all the adults are like "But Count Olaf has a monobrow and a tattoo, he can't be this guy."
The third personality is corn of cobblin. Makes sense that’s why William defoe was on the set
Prediction: Third personality, but when he summons the suit, it's just Oscar Isaac with a moustache.
For the record, as a Brit, Australian accent-best accent. (Yes, I’m sure there are multiple Australian accents depending on where you’re from) regardless, I dunno why, every Australian pretty much (except Bob Katter) just sounds so jovial and makes me feel better.
Also, as an addendum, everyone should watch some of Bob Katter’s speeches and interviews. They are so funny. Horrible sometimes but funny. The guy is nuts.
It was kinda painful knowing full-well James was about to talk about the passing of that actor and Mason just would not stop making jokes 😂
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the return of Big Sky Laser. That actor has been underrepresented for a while now.

I'm curious with this move with the Egyptian gods if this will be how the Greco-Roman pantheon comes to the MCU. Cause yeah messing with the sky multiple times probably steps on the toes of a LOT of mythological pantheons.

The only thing I don’t like about Moon Knight so far is that there’s no way whatever remains of the Avengers wouldn’t show up after that sky spinning shit. After all the shit they’ve been through they’d gather up everyone they could find and hunt for whatever caused it just in case it’s some other Thanos type character fucking around.

In the Uncharted movie they were in Barcelona in Spain, I know for certain that it was Barcelona because in one scene you can see the Segrada La Familia which is a massive church and tourist trap that has been under construction since the 1800s and which I visited a number of years back.

I just remembered the Wakanda Spirit world had. Purple skyfilter - the same colour as the Enneads/Ammits magic. I wonder if thats intentional - especially if the Panther god is Bast (who was associated with Hathor)

I thought the first two episodes were so freaking good. And this episode was so freaking dumb. Holy cow what a turnaround.
One thing I've noticed is that they're apparently steering away from the "Is this real or all just inside his head?" or the "unreliable narrator" trope and that it appears that fantastic events _are_ happening to Steven/Mark who just so happens to be mentally ill. Just because our protagonist is neurologically atypical doesn't mean the events happening to him are not real.
This is lampshaded by the scene in which the gods/avatars are questioning Khonshu/Mark and Harrow. Khonshu appears as ranting and raving compared to the cool, calm and collected Harrow and Mark has to admit he's not well, to the pity of the court, who then treat him as an unreliable witness.
It's something, I'm sorry to say, I'm not unfamiliar with. I expect anyone who has mental illness knows how frustrating it is when one is wronged, but no body listens because you're "crazy".
Ah well... I suppose I'll just go and f*** myself!

don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but in the comics, Bast the Panther god brim Black Panther is from the same pantheon as Khonshu, so I wonder if when making the show they thought about Including Bast and possibly having a Wakandan be their avatar
Also wonder is Anubis would be here but seeing as he’s more a ferryman he probably wouldn’t need an avatar

They allude to Khonshu not being the first god locked away in stone. I think Bast had previously been locked away for planting the Heart-Shaped Herb.

I personally like to think that the "one finned gold fish" was once the "two finned gold fish" and as such enjoyed a long career as a normal gold fish in Hollywood doing normal acting. However, then this gold fish was purchased by Jared Leto and taught the fine art of method acting by viewing Leto's wheel chair shenanigans on Morbius. He was then hired for Moon Knight directly after and in an effort to show Leto just how "method" he could be, he began gnawing one fin off until, like magic, he had become just as wonderfully shit at acting as our boy Leto...
