I don't see how you can claim to love Star Wars (or yourself, for that matter) through being grateful for the slow degradation of what was, once upon a time, a very special, very curated and cared for, labour of love. When you get your meal at whatever restaurant and it's messed up, not what you ordered, do you just be grateful you are getting any food at all? There's so many aspects of this world that are degrading just like this, because people settle for whatever - not enough people demand quality over quantity and in the long term we all suffer for it.

There was a good story somewhere within the prequels, it’s just the way it was all put together made it what it was. I like the phantom Menace (yes, it was similar to the original, but NOT the carbon copy TFA was,) but AOTC was so dull, and ROTS was rushed. Yes, the dialogue in all three needed help. But there was a story there, somewhere.

@@rumblehat4357 I heard that the novelization of ROTS is actually great and the novels of episode 1 and 2 at least add context, fix some issues with dialogue etc. I will probably give them a shot soon. Maybe the novels are the way to get something more out of the prequels.

Argument completely glosses over the fact that the people you'd be thanking are the same people who made like 30 years of auxillary content non-canon so, from a certain point of view, they're not graciously giving you more in the absence of nothing ever being made outside of the original trilogy and prequel trilogy. They're simply replacing what they took away.

Lesley headland should never write in Star Wars again. “The Acolyte” is the first Star Wars show ever - that when it ended I was not looking for more in fact I was glad it was over. I went into it open minded and it was worse than I could have ever imagined. Good riddance.
Headland is a talentless hack who should never have been given this job, and who needs to take some remedial writing courses at the nearest community college. She is not worthy of leading anything bigger than a radio commercial for the local furniture store. On AM. But ultimately, it's the lack of top level leadership and pure recklessness with money that lies at the heart of this failure. No one is steering this crashing ship.
That's how I felt in Episode 8. I was hoping they would shoot the Mille in Falcon, and Episode 9 would be a new rebellion being formented for a new trilogy to overthrow emperor Kylo Ren.

The only interesting character was Qimir, but the more you analyze him, the shallower his mystery becomes. Qimir talks about a vision of freedom, but his actions contradict that, and this problem would be visible and significant in season 2. And I'm just talking about Qimir - the rest of the characters are a total failure. I believe retreating to a safe, familiar era is a catastrophic mistake. As I quoted-cowardice. Fans don’t know what they want until they see it; Mandalorian is a perfect example. It was a massive risk, probably the biggest risk they’ve taken, and it was a huge success. Fans didn’t know they would love it because they didn’t know Din and Grogu-it was something new. The truth is that Star Wars needs to take risks and experiment, to expand into new eras and new stories. Let Acolyte be a lesson in how not to tell a story, not an excuse to run away without learning anything.
Except I don’t remember anyone being like, “Nobody asked for this.” about The Mandalorian. I feel like a lot of fans PROBABLY WERE like, “But why some random Mandalorian and not Boba Fett? Or at least Jango?” or something… but also fans probably like Mandalorians. They’re cool. So I don’t think people were against the idea exactly? I certainly don’t remember seeing it. A much better example, apparently, is Andor imo. Even I was like, “Who?” and “Nobody asked for this.” and even freaking Thor here has said something along the lines of, “I think naming it Andor didn’t do the show any favors because nobody really wanted to see more of that character from Rogue One.” And yet apparently Andor is arguably the best thing Disney SW put out. 🤷♀️ so maybe fans really don’t know what they want, SOMETIMES, until they get it. (Though I’d argue that sometimes we definitely DO, as long as it’s GOOD. Some KOTOR stuff would do AMAZINGLY WELL as long as it’s done justice. But if it sucks, it would be a travesty.)
The issue with new eras is that the main ones were so poorly treated by the Disney movies. If we had satisfaction with the main era I'd love to see them move on. I just don't feel like the story is finished (or like it needs fixing)
@@josepetersen7112after Disney it definitely does need fixing, the sequels were that bad. We need more diversity of thought on screen though, not diversity of actors. Honestly Rogue 1 and episodes 4 and 1 have more alien species represented than anything but maybe Rogue One, but they don't focus on it, Acolyte might have had diversity but it was not DIVERSE, the characters are far too invested in following nonsensical plot contrivances. If you want a "lost" or investigative series to work you need different ways of thinking to move plot forward, if one character is too "smart" or illogical yet always correct the audience stops following clues and just follows the character or rejects them on their own merits.
One pro for Mando was ... We don't know his past or future. There is still possibilities, but I think to be honest. Mando came when the fandom was allready divided. And these fans did not come back for mando ...

The logic that their sentiment seems to follow is that it is somehow the fanbase's fault that the show was badly written…even though they had nothing to do with its development. Why on Earth do these people think that bullying the fans will change their opinions on this show? In any other industry, antagonizing your customers is a one-way ticket to not only losing their financial support, but also your own reputation.
I didn't even make that connection; how bad of a failure did this have to be for Disney to flat-out cancel it vs just letting it fade into the background like the dozen or so other projects they've "put on the back burner". That's very telling
I remember how hyped I and many others were for The Force Awakens, I left that movie thinking it was OK but I had issues with it but hoped the next installment would fix the problems, instead it exasperated them, when I went online I found people saying anyone who hated it was sexist and racist even though I and many others wanted Fin to be the main character and only had a problem with Rey when it became clear she was a Mary Sue with little substance to her character. The problem is these people try to dismiss valid criticism by calling people names and that doesn't get people on their side it turns them harder against their side.

Cancelling the second season acolyte is the correct descision. Disney should be happy that the "toxic" fanbase didn't start a troll campaign in "support" of a second season. Star wars is in such a bad state that even if you are supporting it you are just doing a disservice to it.
The only unfortunate part about this is this had to be Lee Jung-Jae's foray into English media AND Manny Jacinto's epic villain debut; two career paths that are probably now nipped.
I think Jacinto's career will be okay, he was a redeeming part of the show for a lot of people and I don't think that audiences or directors would be put off working with him because of this. Lee Jung-Jae is very unfortunate and may not try breaking into English speaking markets for awhile.

@@crypto66 only time will tell, but if I were casting sexy villains/anti-heros at this moment in time I would try to poach Jacinto as his show got cancelled and he's probably looking for work. Either way I imagine he has a long career ahead of him, not every project an actor is gonna be part of will be a winner. Keanu Reeves is another actor who does both, he was mostly dorky surfer dudes for awhile before moving to action roles.
And the frustrating part is that it's NOT too late to give us new EU as Legends, or to give us faithful adaptations, but Lucasfilm could care less. They're more interested in the far smaller High Republic fanbase than the EU fanbase, which is sure a damn shame, tbh.
It took me far, far too long to realize the ramifications of deleting the pre-2014 Expanded Universe. What's even more disheartening is just how many people celebrated that news and the subsequent misconceptions spread by the likes of Pablo Hidalgo himself. It reminds me of Padmé's reaction to the Galactic Empire's formation, because it is just so applicable to this: "So this is how -liberty- the Expanded Universe dies-with thunderous applause."

Playing Knights of the Old 1 and 2, for the 100th time, has been a real therapy session lol. It takes me back to a simpler time when the EU was in full force. Its amazing how video game and book writera can write a better Star Wars story than Hollywood "professionals". I use that term loosely
Jedi Apprentice and Young Jedi Knights are my favorite EU books, and they carry the Star Wars atmosphere better than anything found in Disney's literally shitty Star Wars YA novels.
The fact that they officially announced that there won't be a season 2 instead of just silently letting things go like Boba Fett season 2 or the Rian Johnson Trilogy. Is pretty interesting, it's like they're sending a message: "We know it was terrible, we're ending this".
How about they make a solid lineup of series first, then maybe I'll reconcider. As for now, I'm apathetic to all of it. I can't even trust them to stick the landing with Andor S2. Mandalorian S3 showed that. First seeing then believing.

I am surprised the Acolyte got canceled because so far Disney has made stupid decision after stupid decision and I thought that trend would continue. I thought we were in for at least three seasons of pure dogshit.
Its honestly a shame that a show that had, in concept, huge potential, gets shafted. But The Acolyte had so much support from Lucasfilm both in production and marketing that it had to deliver something that was at least above avarage in terms of quality while also making the money back. Unfortunately it did none of those things and instead burned a 200 million dollar hole. When the show was still airing the people who liked the show often responded to criticism with "If you hate it so much dont watch it". Well that is exactly what happened. On antother note it should also teach future writers of anything on televesion that sequel baiting through cameos is not actually doing leg work for future seasons.

No Star Wars is better than bad Star Wars. A Sith-centered show was a great premise, and I'm glad they tried something beyond the Skywalker era. But this show, and this script, wasn't it and it needed to be put down.
There only two trilogies of Skywalker "era" legends offered tons of stories and that got dump for nostalgia milking and being call ist, ism and ophe era.
The ultimate irony of Disney and their “force is female” approach is the best stuff they’ve done with the IP - Rogue One, Andor and s1&2 of Mando - have little to nothing to do with the force or Jedi or any of that stuff.
OG Trilogy - Fisher, Ford, Hamill, freaking James Earl Jones - amazing actors who became beloved, a classic beloved heroes journey and redemption story with strong connotations of hope. Prequel Trilogy - Liam Neeson, Ewan McGreggor, Sam Jackson, Natalie Portman - actors who all are or would become hollywood stars, with iconic portrayals, a story about the jedi's fall from grace, hubris, and the rise of the empire. Sequel Trilogy - very few actors I care about or who have gone on to do great things, the trilogy is a low point for many of them. Retreads of OG trilogy actors who are largely crapped on by their new roles. Meaningless throwaway story with no cohesion across the trilogy and mostly pandering. The Acolyte - Please god make it stop level of acting and casting and above all story for 90%, chopped down overpriced episodic garbage, disrespect of everything that comes prior, and abandonment of core star wars principles. And people wonder why the fan base has died since the prequel trilogy.
They spent 2+ seasons' worth of budget to get maybe half a season's worth of views There is no excusing poor performance of this magnitude. No matter how the blame is distributed, it took the combined efforts of the entire creative team behind the show for it to fail this hard.

Andor had a female director, POC cast, Lesbian couple, and literally adressed the issues of injustice within the star wars galaxy parodying our own world. I just saw Godzilla Minus One last night, and it was outstanding. It was the kind of quality movie that American cinema has seemed largely allergic to for the past decade or so. And it just blows my mind that a film with an all Japanese cast can be so embraced in the U.S., meanwhile Hollywood STILL insists we're just racists for not liking The Acolyte/Wakanda Forever/The Marvels/etc. (Also, Deadpool and Wolverine sure blew the "superhero fatigue" argument right out of the water, huh?)
Disney could have made ZERO Star Wars content after their acquisition of it and made money on merchandise until the banthas came home. Instead they give us things like Last Jedi and Acolyte, steaming heaps of bantha poodoo. I would be very surprised if the Acolyte's plot wasn't generated by AI. It felt like watching a mash up of everything that was ever made with the Star Wars name on it, but by someone who had no idea why any of it had been made. It felt completely soulless like everything made by AI does.

Timothy Zhan is your chief creative director for ALL EU Dave Filoni consultant for clone wars and OT content. Needless to say everyone else at Lucasfilm is replaced and Kathleen Kennedy clearly publicly fired and shamed. Oh and decanonize everything except R1 and Andor. Oh and apologize to the fanbase for the blame, insults, gaslighting and treatment of Star Wars. Do these things and you have a chance of saving Star Wars. But this is like the doctor strange one in 14 million shot. ....and even then... Can we use this as yet another example of how the "critics" are out of touch and don't act in the interest of truly letting people know how much entertainment they will get by watching a show? It's clear that they just act and say what Disney wants them to for access rather then speaking the truth.
All i care about is that a story makes sense, is decently well written and fits the narrative of the world it's set in. I really couldn't care less what gender or skin color the writers or any of the actors have. I'm so sick and tired of getting called an istaphobe or bigot for daring to have "some" standards when it comes to my entertainment.

A terrible story where almost everyone involved was obsessed with gender, colour and sexuality, did not appeal to enough people. And the awful budget didn't help either. Rogue one did well, it gets andor, an associated show, solo did poorly, doesn't get show, Mandalorian is a hit, it gets several seasons and a movie greenlit, Acolyte does poorly, gets cancelled. Bigots are always present, but time and time again weve seen diverse casts in things like Arcane and SpiderVerse excel, so clearly the bigot demographic can be overcome by well written movies and shows.
People will look you straight in the face and tell you that your valid criticism is nothing but nitpicking and reaching for reasons to hate the show. They will blame Star Wars Theory and everyone else that reviews the show that aren't being positive about the show. And yet, when these same reviewers repeat over and over about how they just want a good Star Wars show, somehow that equates to thinking that it's gatekeeping and that the focus should only be on the Skywalkers. Will this ever change?
Those viewership numbers are representative of exactly what I did during this show's run, and I am indeed a Nielson household so my viewership matters. I watched the first three episodes as they aired, with the infamous episode 3 disaster happening on my birthday. I decided to boycott the rest of the season after that train wreck and instead watch YT coverage. However, curiosity got the better of me and I did watch the finale as it aired. Seems like a lot of other people did the same thing. I think the most succinct way to summarize the problem with The Acolyte is that it did not respect the audience.
They said, "if you don't like it, don't watch it"

But there was a story there, somewhere.

Argument completely glosses over the fact that the people you'd be thanking are the same people who made like 30 years of auxillary content non-canon so, from a certain point of view, they're not graciously giving you more in the absence of nothing ever being made outside of the original trilogy and prequel trilogy. Lesley headland should never write in Star Wars again. “The Acolyte” is the first Star Wars show ever - that when it ended I was not looking for more in fact I was glad it was over. I went into it open minded and it was worse than I could have ever imagined. Good riddance.

When it comes to Acolyte, I was strongly against a season 2. The only interesting character was Qimir, but the more you analyze him, the shallower his mystery becomes. Qimir talks about a vision of freedom, but his actions contradict that, and this problem would be visible and significant in season 2. And I'm just talking about Qimir - the rest of the characters are a total failure.
I believe retreating to a safe, familiar era is a catastrophic mistake. As I quoted-cowardice. Fans don’t know what they want until they see it; Mandalorian is a perfect example.
It was a massive risk, probably the biggest risk they’ve taken, and it was a huge success. Fans didn’t know they would love it because they didn’t know Din and Grogu-it was something new.
The truth is that Star Wars needs to take risks and experiment, to expand into new eras and new stories. Let Acolyte be a lesson in how not to tell a story, not an excuse to run away without learning anything.

Except I don’t remember anyone being like, “Nobody asked for this.” about The Mandalorian. I feel like a lot of fans PROBABLY WERE like, “But why some random Mandalorian and not Boba Fett? Or at least Jango?” or something… but also fans probably like Mandalorians. They’re cool. So I don’t think people were against the idea exactly? I certainly don’t remember seeing it.
A much better example, apparently, is Andor imo. Even I was like, “Who?” and “Nobody asked for this.” and even freaking Thor here has said something along the lines of, “I think naming it Andor didn’t do the show any favors because nobody really wanted to see more of that character from Rogue One.” And yet apparently Andor is arguably the best thing Disney SW put out. 🤷♀️ so maybe fans really don’t know what they want, SOMETIMES, until they get it.
(Though I’d argue that sometimes we definitely DO, as long as it’s GOOD. Some KOTOR stuff would do AMAZINGLY WELL as long as it’s done justice. But if it sucks, it would be a travesty.)
The issue with new eras is that the main ones were so poorly treated by the Disney movies. If we had satisfaction with the main era I'd love to see them move on. I just don't feel like the story is finished (or like it needs fixing)

We need more diversity of thought on screen though, not diversity of actors. Honestly Rogue 1 and episodes 4 and 1 have more alien species represented than anything but maybe Rogue One, but they don't focus on it, Acolyte might have had diversity but it was not DIVERSE, the characters are far too invested in following nonsensical plot contrivances.
If you want a "lost" or investigative series to work you need different ways of thinking to move plot forward, if one character is too "smart" or illogical yet always correct the audience stops following clues and just follows the character or rejects them on their own merits.
One pro for Mando was ... We don't know his past or future. There is still possibilities, but I think to be honest. Mando came when the fandom was allready divided. And these fans did not come back for mando ...

I remember how hyped I and many others were for The Force Awakens, I left that movie thinking it was OK but I had issues with it but hoped the next installment would fix the problems, instead it exasperated them, when I went online I found people saying anyone who hated it was sexist and racist even though I and many others wanted Fin to be the main character and only had a problem with Rey when it became clear she was a Mary Sue with little substance to her character. The problem is these people try to dismiss valid criticism by calling people names and that doesn't get people on their side it turns them harder against their side.

The only unfortunate part about this is this had to be Lee Jung-Jae's foray into English media AND Manny Jacinto's epic villain debut; two career paths that are probably now nipped.
I think Jacinto's career will be okay, he was a redeeming part of the show for a lot of people and I don't think that audiences or directors would be put off working with him because of this.
Lee Jung-Jae is very unfortunate and may not try breaking into English speaking markets for awhile.

Playing Knights of the Old 1 and 2, for the 100th time, has been a real therapy session lol. It takes me back to a simpler time when the EU was in full force. Its amazing how video game and book writera can write a better Star Wars story than Hollywood "professionals". I use that term loosely
Jedi Apprentice and Young Jedi Knights are my favorite EU books, and they carry the Star Wars atmosphere better than anything found in Disney's literally shitty Star Wars YA novels.

The fact that they officially announced that there won't be a season 2 instead of just silently letting things go like Boba Fett season 2 or the Rian Johnson Trilogy. Is pretty interesting, it's like they're sending a message: "We know it was terrible, we're ending this".

Ok, sure, it can continue to exist and not be “censored”. But it won’t matter when people forget about within the next 10 to 15 years anyway. It didn’t earn its right to exist and stay in public consciousness. And while I enjoy the idea of current Lucasfilm officially decanonizing a project (though that would be admitting defeat) it’s largely been rejected by the fan base already, so it might as well already be not canon. It can continue to exist in notoriety and eventually be forgotten, but that isn’t much better than being removed from all platforms. Honestly, its biggest contribution to existing will be an example of what NOT to do with a TV show.

I am surprised the Acolyte got canceled because so far Disney has made stupid decision after stupid decision and I thought that trend would continue. I thought we were in for at least three seasons of pure dogshit.
Its honestly a shame that a show that had, in concept, huge potential, gets shafted. But The Acolyte had so much support from Lucasfilm both in production and marketing that it had to deliver something that was at least above avarage in terms of quality while also making the money back. Unfortunately it did none of those things and instead burned a 200 million dollar hole. When the show was still airing the people who liked the show often responded to criticism with "If you hate it so much dont watch it". Well that is exactly what happened.
On antother note it should also teach future writers of anything on televesion that sequel baiting through cameos is not actually doing leg work for future seasons.

No Star Wars is better than bad Star Wars. A Sith-centered show was a great premise, and I'm glad they tried something beyond the Skywalker era. But this show, and this script, wasn't it and it needed to be put down.
There only two trilogies of Skywalker "era" legends offered tons of stories and that got dump for nostalgia milking and being call ist, ism and ophe era.

The ultimate irony of Disney and their “force is female” approach is the best stuff they’ve done with the IP - Rogue One, Andor and s1&2 of Mando - have little to nothing to do with the force or Jedi or any of that stuff.
OG Trilogy - Fisher, Ford, Hamill, freaking James Earl Jones - amazing actors who became beloved, a classic beloved heroes journey and redemption story with strong connotations of hope.
Prequel Trilogy - Liam Neeson, Ewan McGreggor, Sam Jackson, Natalie Portman - actors who all are or would become hollywood stars, with iconic portrayals, a story about the jedi's fall from grace, hubris, and the rise of the empire.
Sequel Trilogy - very few actors I care about or who have gone on to do great things, the trilogy is a low point for many of them. Retreads of OG trilogy actors who are largely crapped on by their new roles. Meaningless throwaway story with no cohesion across the trilogy and mostly pandering.
The Acolyte - Please god make it stop level of acting and casting and above all story for 90%, chopped down overpriced episodic garbage, disrespect of everything that comes prior, and abandonment of core star wars principles.
And people wonder why the fan base has died since the prequel trilogy.
Think of how many lives this is going to save.

Light saber fights were at times quite good but some moments made me roll my eyes, like Indara's death or the slow motion jump at the end.
I just saw Godzilla Minus One last night, and it was outstanding. It was the kind of quality movie that American cinema has seemed largely allergic to for the past decade or so. And it just blows my mind that a film with an all Japanese cast can be so embraced in the U.S., meanwhile Hollywood STILL insists we're just racists for not liking The Acolyte/Wakanda Forever/The Marvels/etc.

Disney could have made ZERO Star Wars content after their acquisition of it and made money on merchandise until the banthas came home. Instead they give us things like Last Jedi and Acolyte, steaming heaps of bantha poodoo. Now people won’t buy any merchandise, and some even look at the merch they have displayed on their shelves and frown. We can only hope the cancellation of The Acolyte is a sign they may be getting our message.
It's interesting that even though the lightsaber fights were actually pretty good, all of them together don't reach the heights of those 3 seconds in Tatooine of Kenobi vs Maul
Honestly hearing the news that it was canceled yesterday made my day. Good riddance to Acolyte.
I would be very surprised if the Acolyte's plot wasn't generated by AI. It felt like watching a mash up of everything that was ever made with the Star Wars name on it, but by someone who had no idea why any of it had been made. It felt completely soulless like everything made by AI does.
That would explain how a fortress made of stone was able to burn down.

I recently rewatched Episode III as well as the Siege of Mandalore arc of Clone Wars… those were good times. And to think, Clone Wars Season 7 was made by Disney. Amazing that they managed to put out something like that. And then there‘s stuff like The Acolyte.

This is an insult to fanfiction. Some of it is actually really good. The Acolyte is it's own category of awful.
Replacing Kennedy with someone other than Dave Filoni, and de-canonising every thing Disney has made until now will bring most of the true fan base back.

it seems most people weren’t interested in the show and the people who were invested either really loved it or really hated it

Can we use this as yet another example of how the "critics" are out of touch and don't act in the interest of truly letting people know how much entertainment they will get by watching a show? It's clear that they just act and say what Disney wants them to for access rather then speaking the truth.
I would almost wonder if it's going to suffer the same fate as "Willow."
The Acolyte was like a first draft. There was some potential in there, but major parts needed to be reworked.
I agree. They had to rework just the beginning, the middle, and the end...
All i care about is that a story makes sense, is decently well written and fits the narrative of the world it's set in. I really couldn't care less what gender or skin color the writers or any of the actors have. I'm so sick and tired of getting called an istaphobe or bigot for daring to have "some" standards when it comes to my entertainment.

A terrible story where almost everyone involved was obsessed with gender, colour and sexuality, did not appeal to enough people. And the awful budget didn't help either.
Do they really think disney would really hand out even more money to the same people to do this all over again?

Rogue one did well, it gets andor, an associated show, solo did poorly, doesn't get show, Mandalorian is a hit, it gets several seasons and a movie greenlit, Acolyte does poorly, gets cancelled.
Bigots are always present, but time and time again weve seen diverse casts in things like Arcane and SpiderVerse excel, so clearly the bigot demographic can be overcome by well written movies and shows.
Don't forget Jedi: Fallen Order. It did well, and we got Jedi: Survivor.

People will look you straight in the face and tell you that your valid criticism is nothing but nitpicking and reaching for reasons to hate the show. They will blame Star Wars Theory and everyone else that reviews the show that aren't being positive about the show. And yet, when these same reviewers repeat over and over about how they just want a good Star Wars show, somehow that equates to thinking that it's gatekeeping and that the focus should only be on the Skywalkers. Will this ever change?

Those viewership numbers are representative of exactly what I did during this show's run, and I am indeed a Nielson household so my viewership matters. I watched the first three episodes as they aired, with the infamous episode 3 disaster happening on my birthday. I decided to boycott the rest of the season after that train wreck and instead watch YT coverage. However, curiosity got the better of me and I did watch the finale as it aired. Seems like a lot of other people did the same thing.
I think the most succinct way to summarize the problem with The Acolyte is that it did not respect the audience.
