It sucks that operators and companies are getting swindled into thousands of dollars of tech, when I do this free hand with a level plane laser.

There's always one "all I need is a standard bucket, some fuel, and a bubble" and I'll "free hand" a perfect finish grade. Maybe you are that capable, there's definitely guys out there with that kind of skill. However, that skill isn't developed over a few jobs and all people are doing is "spending thousands" to make up for that time. Don't get mad because a guy can buy tools like this and in their first couple of years outbid and outwork you...
